Hello everyone- please check with medical personnel for something called EoE—Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (UK spelling).
I know it may not be everyone's problem
but EoE was recently recognised as a leading cause of gastric distress and physical pain. Plus -the worst evaluation tool is an upper endoscopy— for verifying presence of eosinophils in an inflamed oesophagus—Mayo Clinic (mayoclinic.org) has current and accurate information that is easy to read.
EoE is an technically an allergic reaction to eosinophils traveling up from stomach to inside of throat (the Oesophagus).
Formerly thought to effect only babies and toddlers etc.
EoE* is now (since 2018-2020) recognised as present in adults. It is being correctly diagnosed since it was separated out from GERD. It is important that your doctor or technician, and other professionals are aware of the rapid increase of EoE and that it does not respond to PPI’s (Proton Pump Inhibitors given for GERD.
The symptoms are many and dangerous. In adults, food can get food stuck in the throat - and one is unable to swallow or breath etc... Anaphylaxis can be one of the body’s reactions.
It can cause extreme pain in swallowing and pain through the ribcage as well as stomach and upper intestine, etc.
The solution seems to involve giving up coffee (I was sure I was going to die; serious love of caffeine—I am grateful I am still alive!). All caffeine drinks, plus drinks and food too hot in temperature are best not used anymore. Anecdotal information varies regarding spices and raw acidic fruits- including tomatoes and citrus. Fear not— we can eat almost any fruit cooked.
Lots of information on current medical websites regarding elimination of 6-8 foods to calm symptoms and choking risks. Removing certain trigger foods has helped me as I wait through the Coronavirus Pandemic for medical visits to be safe for me.
Please take care in these times. I hope this information can help. Chronic pain and anxiety only seem to multiply pain and anxiety.
Best regards to you all.

I know many responses are over a year old...but thinking you are still in same situation as doctors tend to write it off as scar tissue, or something else very vague. However, it does not solve our issues!! I had my gallbladder out almost 18 years ago and am worse off after surgery than before. I have been to several specialists with no relief. I was recently diagnosed with SOD but since more complications risk than potential benefit, not recommended for ERCP. I have said all along there is tremendous pain in the upper right quadrant. All tests come back "normal" so told nope nothing wrong...but there is. After years of research I came across links to potential for there to be reaction to the surgical clips left in (intentionally) during the GB removal. The symptoms it causes are system wide, not just to that area. (Joint pain, nausea, brain fog, autoimmune problems, fatigue just to name a few common). I encourage you all to go back and think about your symptoms and see if this may be something for you to look into. There is a great group in Facebook that has individuals who've had successful clips removed and it has made such a difference. There are VERY few surgeons willing to do this, but I have finally found one and will be getting mine out soon!! Hopefully this works, and I am thinking of you all. Don't give up, you know your body & what is going on!! Best of luck!
