Hi all,
I have been having the same symptoms for about 5 weeks now. I wake up feeling fine and then as the day progresses the tight throat feeling starts to occur. I have been a bit anxious and stressed recently and my GP thinks it is becayse of this. He said it was a condition called Globus Pharyngeus which is basically ''tightening of the throat'' It does seemed to of eased off a bit over the weekend when i have been trying to relax a bit more. The feelings only happen between 9 in the morning till 6 on the evening then wear off on the night. I am currently taking rennies after food to see if that helps and drinking lots of cold water. I also found a website that said about exercises to do to your throat and i have been doing these for a couple of days now. They also say that the condition is anxiety related. The website is www.panic-anxiety.com/articles/globus-hystericus. Hope this helps out all those suffering from this.

Hi guys..
im having the same symptoms.. no cough though. just a feelings of sometimes something as small as a hair in back of throat or sometimse a lump. and its very bothersome but not painful. causing lots of anxiety (which now i read could be the cause of it in the first place). yes the C word is the scary part..anything else i think i can handle. so ive been having this for a week now and monitoring it finding similar with you guys... almost gone in the morning and progresses after eating or drinking. sometimse at worse at night. but i sleep fine, breathe fine, eat fine.. but due to anxiety not eating too much anyways. after monitoring my stress this week i am seeing how truly stressed i am by almost everything in my life. 99% of my life is stressful to me.. and i almost have no time of peace and relaxation. i worry about everything and stress that its not the way i want it. everything from my body, my finances, my employees, my dog, my house, my car, my bf, my health, my extended family. sigh. anyways, what i will monitor it further and go to the dr soon if it persists. im going to try deep breathing and meditation as well as prayer. also going to cut out diet coke (im addicted).. and try to eat a healthy diet. i will come back and let you guys known how it goes. Breathe in, Breathe out, Life is good! (easier said than done, i know!) my prayers are with you all!
I too have had the sensation of a pill being stuck in my throat, feeling like it it is right on my larnyx and causing discomfort whenever I swallow ... to the point of dry retching often. It becomes worse as the day goes on and often leaves me with a hoarse voice by days end.
sooo ... I went to the doctor who has previously diagnosed me with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and upon hearing my symptoms, she called for an ultrasound of my thyroid gland, which is situated either side of my larnyx/voice box. The scan showed up 14 'nodules' within my thyroid gland itself, ranging from 3 to 10 millimetres in diameter.
These nodules are apparently common in people with Hashimoto's and with several being of the larger size, it explains my difficulties in swallowing and the pressure I have been feeling on my voice box. It means there isn't really a lot of room for the thyroid gland itself and it is working hard to regulate my levels - hence an increase in my medication. My doctor has stated that if the sensation does not go away with the increase inmedication, that a partial or full removal of the thyroid gland might be the next step.
I now have to go for a nuclear scan to see if the nodules are of the benign variety .. which is a tad scary but I am hoping good results as it is a common symptom of Hashimoto's.
So my recommendation to all in this forum is to go and ask for blood tests of your thyroid levels and/or a scan of your throat and thyroid gland. Sometimes Doctors don't like to be told what to do or what to look for, but sometimes it is simply a matter of you knowing your body
best :o)
Hope you all find the answers to are looking for and wish me luck with my next lot of tests!!

So my experience is this... almost 4 years ago I choked on a green bean (yes I said green bean - the wooden stock at the bottom) and had to be taken to the er. They scoped me and it went down. Since then I have had non stop issues with feeling like things are stuck in my throat. They have done a couple scopes, they rinsed out and vaccuumed out my lungs and have had tons of health problems. The doctor has said that I have allergies, asthma, GERD and the list goes on. Additionally I have been diagnosed with panic disorder since the choking. It is incredibly frustrating and disheartening... however here is what I have found... I quit smoking which helped, I have cut out soda's all together which helped and I have learned to talk myself out of panic attacks which also helps greatly. I still have issues, but I have learned to manage it and have replaced my multi vitamin with a liquid version and changed my diet which again helps. I still think there is something wrong which the doctors are missing, however since I am not finding any answers from them I am doing what I can to live with it. As I said it's been 4 years but it is much better than it once was - there was a time I was living on 600 calories of ensure a day and was malnurished and now eat and drink mostly normal (much slower and with smaller bites). Hopes this helps someone... know that there are others out there who are dealing with this too.
