Sensation of Something Stuck in Throat

Did both of these pillls that you had to take for 2 weeks work out for you?? I'm having the EXACT symptoms described here.... I've been to a doctor who prescribed me a pill which are generally used to PREVENT or TREAT ulcers. The feeling of something stuck at the base of my throat or even in my chest at times. Wont go away with swallowing. Dont feel it AT ALL when I FIRST wake up but worsens as the day wears on. I stopped taking the pills given me because it felt like they made my throat feel WORSE, but oddly my stomach feel better. The DR I saw thought it might be from acid even though I've never felt I had any acid that I was aware of or FELT. I will be back to see a DR & SOON. I just needed to know if you're still suffering from this sensation as well. THank you so much if you reply!

i have the exact same thing and even had surgery for a cist 3 wks ago because the dr. thought that is what the feeling could be from. I had a sore throat after the surgery because they tubed me and the cist was taken out. Then about 3 days after surgery the feeling came right back. Exactly the same as you describe.

I have had similar symptoms to those described in this thread, and I had a very reassuring talk with an ENT today, so I am posting in the hopes of helping others to feel less anxious. I have a sensation of something stuck in my throat that comes and goes, but is always worse in the evening. The doctor explained that many people have sensations in their throats that are actually referred from the esophagus, so if you have even a small amount of heartburn (and everyone has some) you may feel as a lump or something stuck in your throat. He also said that this experience is especially common in people who have sensitive throats, and if you have a strong gag reflex, that can be a sign of this kind of sensitivity. He did a swallow study and looked at my throat with a scope just to make sure not to miss anything. He was not at all surprised to find nothing. The doctor also said the over the counter proton-pump inhibitors work well for heartburn, and the prescription ones are even better. So very likely benign another not too hard to treat for those of you who are feeling panicky!

hi i had problem with breathing...and now i have this throat feeling that something there in my throat and its really annoying me having mostly dry mouth :S and when i retch i feel better but it comes back.........starting having some pain on back of my neck........

Oddly enough I just started having this issue of "something" in my throat.. I just switched up my multi-vitamin to generic Women's one-a-day (previously just taking non-Women's one a day).. I stopped taking it for several days, and the "something" went away.  I started taking it again, figuring perhaps I was getting sick or if it was a scratched throat and got better, and that sensation is back. 

Perhaps this could be related?  I don't have many allergies, but perhaps I am irritated or reacting to something in the women's version of that vitamin? 

I have had the same problem. Turns out I have a lump in one of the layers of my esophacus. Waiting to find out if its Cancer.

THIS WHITE THINGS IN BACK OF THROAT COULD BE TONSIL STONES SOMETIMES THEY COME OUT IT YOU COUGH TO HARD OR PRESS AND GET IT OUT WITH YOUR FINGER, THIS REMINDS ME ON A WHITEHEAD, AND COULD GIVE BAD BREATH, I HAD TO DO MY OWN REASEARCH AND TONSIL STONES SOUNDED MORE ACCURATE. THE DOCTOR TOLD ME IT WAS FOOD STUCK BELIEVE ME I KNOW IT WAS NOT FOOD AS I GAGLE AND IT DOES NOT BUDGE, I SOMETHIMES HAVE TO PUSH IT OUT LIKE A PIMPLE AS IT ITRRITATES MY TONGUE, I WAS PUT ON A LOT OF ANTIBIOTICS BELIEVE ME, DOXY FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS CLARAC, FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 2 WEEKS, I STILL HAVE MY IRRTANT COUGH THAT COMES AND GOES WITH THICK WHICH MUCAS, SO HAVE STARTED TAKING BENADRY, FOR MUCAS COUGHS EVEN THOUGH THIS IS IN THE THROAT AND ZYRTEC THE NEXT, I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A YEAR, LUMPY IRRITATED, SWOLLOWING A LOT. JUST A QUICK NOTE DO YOU THINK TWHEN THEY PUT A CAMERA IN YOU NOSE IF THERE IS ANYTHING SINISTER GOING ON THEY WILL BE ABLE TO FIND IN THROAT AREA, I ALSO HAVE THIS RED LUMPY THING IN FRON OF ARCH OF THROAT IT ALL STARTED WITH THE THROAT PROBLEMS THE FIRST ENT SAID IT IS DUE TO THE POST NASAL DRIP. IT STARTED A A PEA SIZE AND NOW A SIZE OF A COIN,
ANYWAY IF ANYONE HAS OR IS GOING THROUGH THIS PLEAE LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

dOES THE ANTIHISTAMINE GIVE YOU RELIEVF AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING THE ANTIHISTAMINE FOR, I GET TIGHTNESS IN THE CHEST TOO BUT HAVE RELIEF WHEN I TKE BENEDRY OR AN ANTIHISTAMIN I STRTED THIS SINCE LAST FRIDAY, ALTERNATING BETWEEN THE TWO , HAVE THICK MUCAS, WITH CYST AND POLYPS AND DEVIATED NOSE, SOMETHIMES HAVE PAIN IN THROAT SOMETIMES NOT.

So I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroid problems (I have apparently had it for a LONG time) and a symptom of it is problems swallowing and a ton of other symptoms which I have had. Also many people who have had such issues also have panic attacks. I have been on a thyroid pill for just over 2 weeks now and it seems to be helping. Just wanted to update everyone on something which has made a difference.

I totally related to your post!! I am a smoker and I want to quit so I feel like every ciggie makes the feeling in my throat feel worse. I am also a huge hypocondiact and I really understand your frustration. I am currently taking antacid meds which seem to help a little. I am hoping that when I get into the docs tomorrow and she tells me I dont have cancer, it will feel a lot better.

i have same felling from past 2 weeks .it happens first it gastric trouble then i visited doctor she gave me some medicines for one week then the started felling something is struck throat .then i gone to ENT Doctor but he not sure about what is struck even after seeing X-ray he given me some pills No use.



Relief: 1) grill the salt hot water -- i felt some relief

2) try to swallow the Banana -- a Big relief immediately



This is the problem with Acid reflex .use medicine for the gastric problem and follow good habits like complete dinner , supper( before 8 pm /1 hour before go to bed)



i hope it will use for all .

this day i gone to Mr.poulos( ENT) jubilee Hospital one of good doctor .He told me it is tonsils very bad condition and given me a five day course and it is worked except removing it no option.

Hi there everyone Beeen a long time since I osted well as mentioned before I had a huge amout of mucas in my throat area, and the need to swallow, gag you name it it was as if my throat was having something stuck back of neck ain, only when i bend my neck in different dircetions on and off touching the area no ain and on and off ain behind ears. Well the mucas stuff got really worse until I hAD CHUNKS OF YUCK IN MY THROAT THE DOCTORS ALL BRUSHED ME OFF SAYING IT WAS OST NASAL DRI AND i KNOW when I had the dri cos I could feel it , another doctor ut me on antibiotics and vola i felt much better still get that occasional lum in throat trouble, and can feel the back of neck starting at the same time, I also take 2 uffs of accuhaler seratide which a has also heled, get occassional tickle in throat and start to cough, going to see another ENT , as the first one I did not really connect with and talking to someone else said that he seems to be always rushed and thats the feeling I got that is why I was not so comfortable, I do have asthma, someone said to take magnesium cheltate hagve any of you heard of it, it hels with the asthma, I also take ro immune 2 times a day, 2 cod liver oil tablets Vitmamin D 2 tablets a day, centrum advance and iron one a day and I think this too has layed a art in how I feel. I do have the days when I get this feeling but it is not too bad THANK GOD, my nose still runs due to the olys and sinus issues as well as hayfever, but not too bad, Try to take some natual remedy to build your immune system, I also occassionally take mylanta, try benadry if you think there is mucas involved, that heled me too, Good luck to you all will be keeing you osted with regards to my ENT visit, i still have that coin size growth which is flesh coloure in the right side of my throat before the arch that the ENT said was edema, who knows that was where I used to have tonsil stones I dont think it is that maybe a cyst, will wait to see what htis ENT says as the doctors too have seen it but said nt to worry about it Regards and God Bless you all heather

I have read several posts and could not help but to give my insite.About ten years ago I was experienceing the same symptoms of something stuck in my throat and no matter what I did It would not go away this was accompanied by no pain at first. Then one morning I got up from bed and notice I could not talk and that their was a lump sitting in the middle of my neck. I went to see my Gp and he reffered me to the ENT doctors it was determine to be thyroid nodule, which was biospy and found to be a non cancerious thyroid nodule which was removed a day later. now june of 2012 I notice that I was fatigue, sweating excessively,change in skin texture,finally my voice changes and my GP put me on methylprednisolone and my symptom went away for a week only to return and worst with a thyroid infection and was given AB but it would not go away then I had a sonogram which show a mass on the right and an enlarge nodule on the left with severe pain from my color bones to my head,swelling,sensivity to touch, air,and light, at time I feel like a bunch of sand was pored into my eyeballs along with facial pain. A FNA was dont two days ago and I now have a barium swallow test schedule and a family history of thyroid problem now awaiting a final decision after my next test. Bottom line if something dosent feel right get it checked and always follow up with a second opinion, no one knowes your body as well as you do so do not ignore your symptoms. I know a friend that never had any problems with his thyroid and he woke up one day with a sore throat went to the doctor and it was discover that he had throat cancer and he never knew and was dead a week later.not to scare anyone but don't take things lightly .

Hi Everyone, pat I hoe everything is OK with you, lease kee us informed, I feel sorry for your friend, what test did the doctor do on your friend to know that he had cancer, or ws it by just looking at his throat. Well I had a really bad cough and they said ost nasal dri so got nothing until it got yuccy and chunky this cured the congestion in throat even though I have it slightly, still on and off I feel there is something there. Now I have got a tickle in my throat and start to cough, and find it hard to sto dry cough, I went to another ENT I showed him the lum on the side of the throat he looked at it and said it was my tonsils and not to worry about it, he ut a camera in my nose at least this one gave me nubing sray before he ut the camera in the nose and checked it out, he asked me to take 7 days 1 tblet rednasloan 25 mg in the morning, then the next 7 days half a tablet and then half every alternate day for thirty days, as well as Demazine tablet every night 1 only. I still havent started the tablets as I am a bit concerned that it is for so long, and reading your exerience with methylrednisolone (how many mg and for how long were you on it, I am a bit worried pat my one does not have the methyl in front of it so would it be the same, The docotr did a general allergy test for me before I went to the ENT and mine was 1666 insted of zero to two hundred even the ENT ws shocked so he sent me to get 4 more allergy test done to determine what am I allergic to ollen, Dust, Animals and grass I think I would resond ositive to all four, as I start to sneeze where there is too much of this around. Anyway I have to see him in a month but as I haven started it I am thinking if I should , I too tend to lose my voice I wonder if I should have continued on another dose of antibiotics till I cleared my cough comletely, I have had ultrasounds done on my neck my glands were a bit swollen the first time but now they are normal, blood tests normal other thant for vitamin D, my ESR and C reactive rotien was in normal range, thyroid were normal, anyway I will kee you all osted of the oiutcome God Bless you all and hoe you all find some relief Heather
