A week ago my boyfriend and I were having vaginal intercourse (nothing adventurous) and when I got up to pee afterward I was struck by severe pains in my abdomen and rectum. The pain was very sharp,  possibly some of the worst pain in my LIFE. I could barely walk, it felt like someone was stabbing me up there with a knife. Pain seemed to be concentrated in lower abdomen and rectum.
After somehow making it to the bathroom, I was doubled over gasping in pain, in tears, shaking, sweating, and feeling very nauseous (normal pain reactions), and any kind of muscle contraction was excruciating. Even passing gas was extremely painful.
My boyfriend tried to get me to lie down, hoping it would ease my pain, but no position could alleviate the pain I was feeling. It ranged all the way up into my solar plexus in the front, and like I said, very painful in my rectum.
The pain was slightly less horrible than the night before, soI went to the doctor the next day, and at first they thought Appendicitis. However, after a very pricey visit to the ER (I have no insurance thanks to being a poor, college student making little over minimum wage) I was helped none. They took three X-rays, some blood and urine tests, gave me pain medication, then told me they couldn't figure out the problem, and that it was most likely the flu or a virus, and that it would sort itself out (Yeah, thanks a whole f*****g lot).
The next day my boyfriend and I had sex again. The pains were dying down enough to not completely squash my desire, but immediately afterward I was in the SAME, EXCRUCIATING PAIN.
I decided immediately it was sex-caused and went to see a gyno (also very expensive) (fml). However that offered no real answers, after noticing I had a LOT of pelvic fluid, they decided to treat it as a pelvic  infection, or cyst burst, and load me up with antibiotics.
The only problem is these are not relieving my pain very much, it still hurts to even pass gas or crouch down, and I don't feel comforted.
Anyone ever had these symptoms?
I feel very alone and depressed (helped by my doctor bills, which are looming).

Sounds like you have chlamydia. Google it & see if you have the same symptoms.

Im having that kind of pain as Im typing this. Im laying on my side which seems to help ease the pain but any small soft movement makes me feel horrible, this is the second time i have experience this kind of pain in the last 10 days, after having plain typical sex. Last sat, after going to 4 different gynecologists, the last one told me one side of my uterus is swollen due to blood clots. I had a pelvic ultrasound and some blood test done, and she checked my vagina as well. I'll be getting my blood tests results today, my gyno thinks I might have some thyroid problems. Meanwhile, im just taking pain relievers which dont seem to kick in yet. :(

I have all the same symptoms. It has happened to me 3 times in the last year. I did a lot of research because doctors were no help. This is what I figured out - and yes, it sounds gross and totally non-sexy - but these types of symptoms can occur when you have sex when you are constipated or even just holding in gas. The pressure and normal muscle contractions of sex makes your body reverse the digestive process, pushing gas back up the intestines. This is not supposed to happen so it can be very painful in many areas of the body because your body is fighting directions. How to avoid it - do NOT have sex when you are constipated or feeling gassy. If it does occur, lay in bed slowly altering body positions and give it time to pass. Do not have sex again for a few days, until things are completely back to normal. Yeah, it is kindof gross, and unlikely - but this is what I have come up with.

Hello hurting and worried, I had the exact same symptoms this week. After I had intercourse, I had this excruciating pain that built up quickly from the pelvis to the rectum and lower abdominal area. I tossed and turned but the pain became worse and I got up with difficulty because the pain was almost crippling and proceeded to vomit in the washroom. When I returned to the bedroom the pain gradually subsided. A couple of days later we had intercourse, I wouldn't have but I was ovulating and we've been timing our intercourse and I've been taking Clomide for 3 cycles. Anyway, after intercourse, the exact same thing happened again. The only difference this time was that I just felt nauseous but didn't actually vomit. I took some Tylenol and tossed and turned but every position was painful and after a while the pain gradually subsided. I'll call my obstetrician and see what he says. Thanks for sharing, I thought I was the only one having these strange symptoms.

This same thing has happened to me.. I had sex with my boyfriend and the pain came on after I orgasmed. I automatically thought it was a cyst bursting as I've had that happened numerous times. Then I could locate the pain was coming from my butt and lower abdo. The pain went away to a dull sharp pain the next day and when we had sex again the same thing has happened. Docs don't know they said it probably was a cyst but I know this pain is completely different! Anyone have info??!!

Really comforting to see other people have this problem. I wish someone knew precisely what causes it though. The post about constipation/gas is the only one with possible insight. :-/ Kinda seems plausible to me, because I was feeling kinda gassy.... anybody ever find anything else out?

This has happened to me twice in the past month. The pain started a bit after I orgasmed and really kicked in when I got up to pee. Flexing the muscles like I was trying to pass gas was the only thing that Dulled the pain initially. Once the gas actually worked its way out, the pain subsided. The second time this happened, I threw up as well but once I did, I felt better and was fine the next day. I was concerned it could be something more serious but honestly, the gas theory makes the most sense to me because I have been with my bf for a year and he is not especially large. We have both been tested recently for stds and I have no other symptoms of any of the other suggested conditions...

It's happened before, but this is the worst pain yet. ESPECIALLY THE RECTUM WHEN I WALK. Bath. Nothing. Tylenol w/Codine. Nothing. *cries out*
