I have the same problem. Every night around bed time my heart rate increases slightly and I’m nauseated... usually lasts for an hour. All blood work is normal. However, I eat more carbs than I should. My doctor said that even though my glucose is normal I mostly get a spike in my blood sugar by early evening and then feel ill as it comes down. I’ve experimented and taken diet logs and I think his theory is correct. On days that I fast or drastically cut carbs, I feel fine at night. I just have to focus a bit more on self control. I hope this helps

Your son could be nervous and excited at the same time and that cofuses the nerves.

I had the same problem for almost a year and for me it was a very easy solution. Around the time I moved in with a roommate, I started having this issue. She loved bottled water so we always had some in the house and I often drank water before bed. I would always drink quite a bit of water while I was laying down and every time I became incredibly nauseous. Then when we ran out of waters, I began to notice that every time I was not nauseous. If you tend to drink laying down or lay down right after, you might stop for a few days and see what happens.

Have your doctor perform a gastric emptying study ... I have learned that gastro paresis is much more common then I thought and have learned from personal experience that it is exacerbated by stress. Essentially, gastro paresis delays the emptying of your stomach .. its can cause acid reflux ( and medicines meant to treat acid reflux make the condition worse) nausea, bloating, constipation ...
