I had a porcelain implant so all ok there. I do not have pain in the groin area as I had previously but this was not that bad.
Four years ago I had a bone marrow transplant. I was late stage Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and after two clinical trials and several regimens of chemo I wasn't responding to treatments anymore so I went through a bone marrow transplant. The donor is non related to me, a female, and a different blood type.
On the good side...my cancer is gone. I've survived it. However, I have Graft-Versus Host Disease and other issues that make my life pretty uncomfortable. I have sever neuropathy in my feet. Sometimes my feet feel like they are literally on fire. I have GVHD in my mouth. I've had to adjust my diet (no spices and limited sauces). I can't eat my foods real hot. I have real bad fatigue issues...some days are real bad and I have some good days. I have Avascular Necrosis in my left ankle, right knee and both hips (very uncomfortable)
HIP PAIN:
I've been dealing with hip pain for about 6 months now. I see so many doctors for so many things I put off seeing another doctor about my hip. I finally saw a doctor two days ago. I really wasn't prepared to hear that I need a hip replacement. I'm concerned about doing it, because once that's done I'll probably have another issue and another one after that. I'm concerned that if I have troubles with a hip replacement, it's just going to add to my problems. I am living with a lot of pain with the hip, and patients in the waiting room told me I would get a lot of relief with a hip replacement. Your story make me think twice about doing it. The doctor said I could live with the pain for now if I want. I have a partial collapse in my hip.
I'm sorry I can't add anything to your issues, but I wanted you to know that I also am going through what you are dealing with.

I've had severe hip pain for about six months.
I had my hip replacement over a year ago and frequently experience pain exactly in the same place. I have found many others who have the same problem. I understand it is because of the handling of the nerves during surgery. In some cases the sciatic nerve becomes damaged. Your Grandfather is not alone . I hope he can get help perhaps from a chiropractor.
I had a porcelain replacement.
I had a total right hip replacement in December 2012. The surgeon used the Zimmer Titanium stem, ceramic ball, and polyethylene cup. I have severe pain in my groin and thigh, my walking is off balance, I have a hard time sleeping, I still can not shave my legs and I still need help dressing. My pain increases with any PT. The doctor says everything looks great and the pain could last a year, but that doesn't seem right. I am 33 years old.
Hi Yes the plate from the hip replacement has trapped or is pressed against the large tendon in the groin. My surgeon said if the tendon is cut I wont have groin pain or be so stiff
Hi, it was helpful, though heartbreaking to hear of all your struggles after total hip replacement. My surgery was only 5 weeks ago and I expected a quick and relatively pain-free recovery once the surgery healed. However, I'm dealing with numbness, some tingling, and pain down my leg. I have not yet been able to get off the narcotic/acetaminophen complex they prescribe and take it as often as every 4 hours, to 6-8 hours on a good day (or night). My doctor said recovery is so individual, and that some people have more "flexible" nerves than others and so I can be looking at 6-12 months to heal this stretched out/pinched nerve...a far cry from the initial 4-6 weeks and then back to work that he initially discussed with me. Aside from the meds, I'm doing physical therapy but wonder what other avenues I should pursue...seems to me I need to get a referral to see either a pain specialist and a nerve specialist - or both! What has most helped you!!
I TO AM HAVEING PAIN FROM TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT MAINLY IN MY FOOT CAN NOT MOVE MY TOES BACK, AND THEY ARE PAINFUL. MY ANKLE FEELS LIKE IT IS LOCKED. MUSCLE ON HALF OF MY LEG IS NUMB TOP OF MY FOOT IS NUMB AND PAINFUL NEUROLOGIST THINKS IT IS THE SYATIC NERVE,WILL BE TESTED JUNE 3RD.
Hello, Did you resolve your pain issues? I have been having many problems myself. They also said I have problems with my disks. I also had an anterior hip replacement and I am only 45! My Dr. says that it's probably the Psoas tendon. It can be lengthened through arthroscopic surgery. To diagnose this problem they give you a cortisone injection in the tendon. If it feels better after they know that is the problem. The shot will probably wear off, but if it does than they can do the surgery to lengthen the tendon.
i had the same hip repl.same problems ex im 48 im going crazy from the pain.????????
Hello, I had double hip replacement surgery in July. I have suffered lower back pain for most of my life and once I saw the hip specialist he immediately said it was my hips. He said I had "bad" hip since birth which causes the back pain. The morning after I had no back pain, felt wonderful not to have back pain! The only problem was my left leg (knee down) was numb but I was told that was due to the injection I was given in my spine (epidural) and it would get better. I did PT while in the hospital and did very well with it and was released to come home with PT to come to the house for about a three weeks. I did very good but the numbness has never gone away and my knee looks weird. My surgeon said I was fine and there was no way I was in pain like I stated. He said the only thing he could do was refer me to a nerve doctor. Went to that doctor and she said it sounds like nerve damage but will have to do a test to make sure. Cannot get test done until Jan because that's her first opening..In the meantime if I stand to long on my feet the left leg really starts hurting. (The top portion & knee) I'm at a loss because it make no sense to me what anyone has said or done. My knee actually looks disformed, however the surgeron did not even look at it. I'm taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia which is for nerve pain however my left bottom portion of leg is getting worse. It looks like I have lost muscle in the area beside my knee (it's indented) I just don't understand what could have happened. Not to mention my back pain is back and I'm having the same issues I had plus since surgery! All the doctors want to do is give out pain meds which all they do if your lucky is cover up whatever is going on. If I have nerve damage will it come back?
I am a 50 year old women and recently had double hip surgery in July. I thought the surgery was a great success until about a month later. My left leg is the problem, from the knee down it's numb. When I shave my legs I can't feel the razor going over my leg. My knee looks disformed and my big toe on my right foot is numb. Surgeron said it will go away with time. Nerve doctor said it sounds like damaged nerves..Now I have to wait until Feb. to get a test done for that, in the meantime I am in worse shape than I was before the surgery. It's hard to sleep, I can hardly sleep on my sides and when I do I have a hard time turning over so I generally sleep on my back. Seems all the doctors want to do is push pain meds and not look into what's going on! I'm very frustrated!
NOT SURE WHEN THIS WAS POSTED BUT SOUNDS JUST LIKE MY STORY.i HAD MY LEFT HIP REPLACEMENT July 22,2013.I am pretty much home bound due to the pain.I am on pain meds and NSAID.i USE HEAT MOSTLY.tHE COLD HURTS MORE..My DR. has not given any more injections since surgery. Thanks Barbara
Hi Everyone,
I am astounded at what we are all going through. Almost everyone's story could be mine. I had arthroscopic hip surgery due to him impingement and a labral tear; I also have hip dysplasia. The pain I am in is so bad. It seems that my Pudendal Nerve has been compromised and other nerve damage. I cannot sit or stand for any length of time. The pre-catching pain is back and I have been to numerous specialisists and I am undergoing multple PT treatments. My surgeon all but dismissed my pain, which led me to a new surgeon who is perplexed but trying to help.
On x-ray and MRI, I am a glossy cover-girl! In real life, I can barely walk. We all need each other and to continue on our path to healing. I will not give up, but it does scare me because as we all have learned complications do happen and a surgeon with integrity would own up to that and help us not feel like that complaining neurotic patient.
