I'm 65 years old almost every morning and also sometimes when I'm jest about to fall asleep I get this sharp pain to the right side of my tongue and when I'm waking up, it's stays there fo about 5 minutes after before that pain goes away, can you tell me why?

Me too so weird for everything but yeast infection and I can't get diagnosed for all of those things you listed either. See reuhmatic Dr and all he can tell me also is that my numbers show inflammation somewhere in my body and something is " brewing". Do you have any other info from Dr? The tongue part is new that just started but everything else has been for a bit now, couple years. I am going thru a miscarriage right now too see extra blood loss. Not sure if that is linked to it too.

I think it is because I recently had disc surgery( 2 weeks ago) c5/c6
And this morning I let the dog out and when I came back inside I walked into my slider and banged my head. I got spasms in my neck all morning.Took a nap this afternoon and the tongue pain woke me up. I know it's that there is prob swelling in the neck and the position I was sleeping in was more upright than I should have been. I'm sure it was a nerve in my neck associated with my tongue

It's an allergy! If I take an anti-histamine of a night nothing, if I don't take the anti-histamine then just as I'm falling asleep I'll get the sharp shooting pain on either side of the tongue.

I just started experiencing the same sharp, cutting pain whilst half asleep. It is excruciating. I am guessing possibly trigeminal neuralgia? Still waiting to get it checked out. Because I get migraines and have been getting a lot lately, I am going to request a neurology consultation. I will ask them.

30 years old, male. Been getting this on and off for a few years. I think the lack of water and the increase in stress levels is what the cause is, and i too only really get it when dosing off (and not in a deep sleep).

Yes I have this problem for at least few years, but I had never been to doctor, but while reading your answer and personal experience.
I am satisfied with your answer also believe in the same way, that it is a false signal, which cause pinch some time. It may be due stress as well as Extra Physical Activities and tiredness. I think It depend person to person

Mine happens mostly in the morning. Towards the back right when I swallow it feels like a lump. Then it's all gone.

Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is an irritation of the ninth cranial nerve causing extreme pain in the back of the throat, tongue and ear. Attacks of intense, electric shock-like pain can occur without warning or can be triggered by swallowing.
