Hi, I read your post and like you I am a 65 year old getting these annoying shocks. Have you any advice for me since you wrote this post. I asked a neurologist who didn't know what might be cusing these sometimes intense shocks.
The first time I had this it lasted 3 weeks. It just started the other day again and I dread having to go another few weeks,
It happens when I eat and even as I'm talking.. I would appreciate any input you might have.
Thanks, Richard

Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia..........This is what I found that very closely relates to my exact symptoms...shooting shocks
to under my tongue only on right side, and triggered by chewing, speaking, coughing and can happen at anytime.
I hope this helps.........Richard
Not any post about the stabbing pain at the site of the tip of the tongue, when not sleep related. I am also experiencing vertigo.....any help???
im having the same thing happening to me and i also have a herniated disc in my neck. I suspect that it is a disc problem and am seeing a orthopedic doctor this week
i have read many posts but do not see any answers
A Chinese man told me it could be to do with your liver. I also get this mainly if alcohol is present in the body. Lack of water. Stress also
My father had the same thing so bad he had surgery. Ask you doctor if you could have Tic Douloureux or trigeminal neuralgia. I have a friend just started with the pain and her dr. sent her to a neurologist this very day. It is so painful she can't eat.
Same here, but I know the reason, I usually hear the crunch of my biting my tongue before the pain wakes me fully.
This is crazy, I have the same problem! I thought I was biting my tongue, but I'm not. I do sometimes bite or snap down really hard with my jaws as I'm falling asleep, but this is different. It has only started in the last couple months. Just as I'm dozing off I get this weird burning, sharp pain like in a line on the right side of my tongue, more near the back. Today I do have a canker sore, but I may have bit it also.
I've had this problem for about a yr........always when I'm asleep, falling asleep or waking up.............send an email to Dr. Oz, he seems to know everything.
I am a 24 year old female. I get the same sort of pain in my tongue. It's on and off again throughout the month and it feels like someone is taking a knife and slitting the tip open or the side depending on where the pain is. I haven't been to the doctor for it and it's happened for as long as I can remember.
