I took magnesium, vitamins E and B6. It stopped immediately. Hope this helps
I've only had this for maybe 6 mos to a year and that's about the time I was taken off Rx strength folic acid! Oh wow, weird. I'm forever fighting one vitamin deficiency or another, but mostly vitamin D and B12, then the folic acid last year. Once my bloodwork was good for several months in a row, my doc said I didnt have to take anymore….so I'm wondering if its ok to take it anyway or if I should get the over-the-counter supplement?? Hmmm, very interesting. I've never had problem withs iron (God knows I love me some red meat! lol), but maybe add a good multi-vitamin? Obviously all of these questions I will need to discuss w/ my doc, so Im thinking out loud but was hoping to find out what your regime is. I'm seriously ready to go beg my oral surgeon to remove, snip or clip all the nerves in my tongue (however that would be accomplished) to make it numb for the rest of my life! Like I dont care if I ever have feeling in it again! haha
Ok, this is just the most bizarre thing ever, isnt yall? I mean doctors and dentists literally look at you most of the time and say they never heard of such a thing?? Awesome, that means I'll hear it from my DDS, MD and my oral surgeon! That's how my luck goes with "weird" things like this, lol. But I wanted to say that Linda's post is IDENTICAL to what I go through at night - it was the only one that matched 100%. So I just have to leave 1 more reply before I start googling the 800 different things this could be, and that is this:
I have been having these excruciating "zings" on the right side of my tongue for about a year and yes, they hurt like a B….but 3 nights ago I woke up out of a dead sleep (thats when mine hit me) and jumped out of bed like I was on fire. It lasted sooooo long, almost a minute and I thought I might pass out, it definitely had me breathless and in tears - that was a 1st. Its day 4 and the side of my tongue is so unbelievably sore and you can feel a huge knot or swollen area on that side. If anyone thinks we're just biting our tongues and too stupid to tell the difference….you're the crayon eater, not us! lol Teeth are sharp, they cut and they draw blood…they also bruise. You can SEE that you've bitten your tongue. These shooting nerve pain spasms thingys leave no marks, no bruise and no teeth imprint or bleeding! Your tongue is normal, might look a little puffy, for sure a swollen knot to the touch and 9 times outta 10, one of those tongue ulcers things develop in just a day! This is the creepiest, strangest, oddest and most agonizingly, extremely and disturbingly concentrated ordeal that I think of ever having felt! It really is unexplainable and for something that lasts like 20-60 seconds tops…I can would rather be back in the hospital with my massive osteomyelitis infection of the chest and sternum! LOL I got a MRSA infection at the dentist of all places, just a tiny little nick to my gums putting my crown on and 3 months later having massive amounts of bone and sternum removed! Its literally the pain of a bone infection and surgery that lasted 2 months with no relief, wrapped into one of these 30 second "zaps" to your tongue! A little over-dramatic of me, but not much and thats no sh**t! Im freaked out for sure…and thats my novel about tongue zings zaps and zee beginning of zee foulest 4 letter word rant you'll ever go on! hahaha
I have the same thing - are any of you taking Lipator or Zoloft? wondering if either can cause this??
same here; I think is a nerve problem due to deficiency of some vitamins and minerals; also the irritation of acidic food and spicy or numbing agents (medication) example Aciclovir for cold sore (herpes); stress will add to the problem. Although it is frustrating and annoying I don't think it is a serious problem or indication of some other sickness unless it last longer or very extreme
I have these to off and on..... but it will make my tongue sore like a muscle sore after a few days of it and then i will have trouble with speech.... not being about to pronounce words correctly..... its not a stroke been tested so im thinking some kind of seizure or something but not been verified by doctor just researching.... there is seizures in my family soo.... but resting does help them to go away faster...
The problem is Iron and folate deficency I am using it now and have read so many have the same problem but fixed once taking these vitamins hope this helps
Wow I'm glad I found this, I thought I was the only one with this problem.
I am a 50 year old male and have sharp pains on the side of my tongue that is later followed by a sore that lasts for about a week to 10 days. Small white lesion that is sore to the touch and causes me to talk funny because it hurts my tongue when it rubs on my teeth. Very annoying. Then just as it shows up, it goes away. Almost cyclic. Maybe stress related or vitamin deficiency. I also have primary hemochromatosis, which is an iron overload problem in my blood. Looking for answers.
Identical as you. See my post below "50 year old male". I also get a sore on the side of my tongue. What the hell is it?
Pain is generally a consequence of a harm or disease. In the event that you keep quiet, you may create a sore that can keep going for a considerable length of time and be exceptionally agonizing. A minor contamination on the tongue is not unprecedented and can result in agony and aggravation. Aggravated papillae, or taste buds, are little, agonizing knocks that show up after a damage from a nibble, or aggravation from hot nourishment.
A blister is an alternate basic reason for agony on the tongue. This is a little, white sore that can emerge for no obvious reason. Canker may be brought about by an infection, all things considered it is known as a viral ulcer. Much of the time the reason for a blister is obscure and alluded to as an aphthous ulcer. These wounds generally go away without any treatment.
Narrowed it down to a couple of things. Reaction to food dye (red 40) most likely, B vitamin deficiency (do you have difficulty with gluten), and maybe dehydration........ It will stop....
I am a 70-year-old male and have experienced this from time to time for many years, always when napping. (Just had it again a couple of minutes ago). I've never found an explanation, but it's reassuring to see so many others have also experienced it. Can't be too serious, perhaps a trapped nerve thing
I wake up with the tongue pain and other times, not usually at the same time, numbness in my arms. I was also told at my last exam that I have a vitamin D deficiency.
