Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

I'm three months smoke free now after 35 years of smoking. The SOB was a big surprise to me. It's like the dark dirty secret of quitting that no one ever talks about. It can be depressing at times. I quit expecting to feel worlds better but I never expected to feel worse. I can sat that I have reached a point where some days I feel some improvement but then the next day get winded walking up a single flight of stairs. I know it's just going to take time and patience. I would love to hear from anyone who has actually survived this SOB nightmare and come out on the other side. I am wondering how long this process takes. Congrats to everyone who has quit and fighting the good fight for a healthy life.
I smoked for 40 years and have stopped smoking 2 months ago and I am wheezing and coughing almost continuously especially at night and with any type of activity. It is a pain in the butt.
I am right there with you. I hope there is a happy ending to all this . It looks pretty dark right now.
Yes I got those symptoms except that vein colour.
I've had exactly what you have described but while still smoking and when I was having allergies.....I didn't think I would ever fall asleep and be able to actually stay asleep....but it did go away and I have not had it since. I wish I could tell you why....but I can tell you it does go away!!!!!
I have been smoking about a pack a day for 16 years and just quit cold turkey about 3 weeks ago. I have hardly been able to breathe since, and had no breathing issues when I was a smoker. I am constantly coughing up phlegm now and can hardly breathe at times when I am not even doing anything. It feels like someone is holding my rib cages together, it's awful and scary. I wake up from sleeping coughing and gasping for breath. I hope it goes way soon.
I have passed the SOB stage which took a solid 3 months, & the tightness in your chest .. I did breathing excersizes. I still on. The anxiety can ramp it up too. Has the lung pain started w/ you yet? Mine came 2 months after I stopped. I've had 2 chest x rays, going to a cardiologist bc my heart "flutters" sometimes now, and a pulmonigist bc I want to address all the issues. This can get worse, mine did. Don't screw around w/ the anxiety. Go to your dr, get chest x rays, etc & put your mind at ease. The anxiety only ramps it up. I am also going to an acupuncturist this week.
Im the same, breathless for no reason
Yes I have the same thing. Even get dizzy. . I have never felt this bad when I was smoking. My blood sugar even tends to drop. Sleep for a few hrs and then wide awake. Was on high blood pressure med but now I feel like my blood pressure tends to drop. Im falling apart. A 65 yr old female
I would be really interested to know if these symptoms have subsided as I'm going through a similar thing though I have reactive airways where strong smells set sob off
I would like to know how do you feel, I just quit 5 months ago and have sob
What hppened since? are you ok now?
How you are doing now after 9 months? Hope everything is right
I'm wondering how are you doing now, all exams were ok?
Just like my story, one doctor says in the morning that I need a heart valve replacement, 2 hours later a cardiologist says it is nothing wrong with my heart. Some times I got SOB but is getting easier, I quit smoking 15 weeks ago, smoked a pk for 20 years, switch to vaping, doing good, but sometimes I feel really bad, depressed and weak. All possible tests came out clear
