Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking?
It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking!
Thanks,
Richard.

Yeah Steve. Same here. 30 year smoker. Off two weeks. The shortness of breath is there alright.
I do excercise at least 4 days/week and it seems to help. But yeah, I have the same feeling ls about a chest X-ray or learning that I probably have emphysema. Will find out soon enough and am glad that I am no longer a smoker.
I quit new years day,and have SOB. Im glad I read these posts cuz I feel better knowing its just from quitting. I smoked 30 yrs and quit with no help other than on bended knee at my bed asking for help. I woke the next day with no desire to smoke and felt the miracle!! Im sure in time it will all be good so Im going to hang in there with the rest of you!
1 year later after smoking for 30yrs. I have put on 20 lbs and have anxiety that I never had before. But everybody tells me its the best thing I ever did. The funny thing is I felt more healthy as a smoker then i do now as a non smoker. Doctors told me the weight will fall off in time and Im crazy not to think My body is better. Well I am happy about the extra 300 a month in my pocket from not smoking and smelling like that anymore. good luck
Hang in there, my weight fell back off with a little exercise. The trick to anxiety is knowing that is what it is....nothing more than anxiety. Took me about a year to get it under control.
I quit smoking aftet 24 years 15 a day. When i smoked i went to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. Since i have wuit since jan the 6th i gave no energy for the gym and feel really tired at all times. My stamina in literally 0. Cant understand why.
YESSSSS!! And I don't mind saying I'm SICK OF IT!!! I FEEL sob {(medical terminology fit short of breath) almost constantly but especially in the evening. I can't even stroll to the end of my driveway fit crying out loud. I also have MG (MYASTHENIA GRAVIS). SO... I'll be going for a lung function test. All I have to say is nearly everyone i know develope SOMETHING... AFTER quitting. SO not fair. I won't go back but I miss breathing normally.
So how are you doing now after a year of not smoking
For most peore the SOB will go away, along with the anxiety. But it takes time. It took me a year or zo to get over that part and a little longer for the anxiety. It's a vicious cycle. SOB causes anxiety which causes SOB which causes anxiety. Sometimes you don't even realize you are having an anxiety attack.
Same situation I experience...I quit smoking a year ago.I smoked for 23 years... When i started to quit smoking I began to experience shortness of breath and no coughing....I am wondering why...
I gave up smoking 8 years ago as I have c.o.p.d but my breathing has got a lot worse. think I should of stuck with the fags. wasn't breathless then
I stopped smoking 9 months ago. Suddenly after an upper chest cold, I'm having shortness of breath. I am now using an inhaler several times a day. I feel like someone is sitting on my chest. These symptoms didn't start until after I got sick.
