Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking?
It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking!
Thanks,
Richard.

I pray that all is well with you and that you are merely experiencing what most of us on this forum have experienced and in time will disappear.
Did you have any of these issues prior to quitting smoking? Believe me, I had the worst SOB in the beginning thought I was just going to die. I never had SOB before so I knew it was because of the quitting. I refused to believe that I quit something bad and get sick from it. The SOB improved very slowly. Now almost 16 months it's gone completely. It will get better you have to hang in there. I refused to throw in the towel because I knew it get better just from all the posts I have read here. You really need to be mentally prepared for this. I'm sure your SOB was bad but I bet got a lot worse the more you dwell on it? Keith

First off let your cardio doc determine if u have chf. Why ur gp would even say such a thing with out all necessary tests. Once the cardio doc does an echo cardiogram and stress test then he will see what is going on. A lot of gp docs will through crap out there and get u all messed up. Also go see a pulmonary doc. Sometimes people develop asthma after they quit smoking. Keep us up to date. Good luck. Keith

Nothing that I noticed, I was in Vegas and walked miles without a problem a few months before quitting..... I don't believe I have CHF, My ankles were swollen which is new. The water pill took that away in a few days. It seems I'm having many more bad breathing days then good and now I feel like someone placed a plactic bag over my head and it wont go away. Thanks for your reply
Joe
You would think my GP whould have started out with the Pulmonary Doc.
Exactly. All your symptoms sound so familiar. This is where you will be tested. Stay strong because it's so easy to just go back to smoking thinking it will help. I know it does not seem it will but it does get better. I know it feels like forever when you are waiting but it does happen. Keep pushing yourself. Try walking and the breathing exercises. Keith
Yes your so right it can take up to 2 years for a very few, but it also can take up to 3 or 7 years for a very very few so take what your body is capable of giving , some times its your genes that deterime the time it takes, THANKS RALPH

You have got to put in at least 20 mins of exercise each day to stay healthy, A 20 min normal walk is great, dont try no great feats if your not use to them, it will kill you THANKS RALPH
