Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

No...actually, it's in the 90's! Generally between 93 and 97...!
Thats great, it should always be at least 92 to get oxygen in your brain and other inportant organs of your body, anything below 92 doesnt get in your organs or brain. THANKS RALPH
Angel I just did some research on this and the ability of the lungs to, pull the numbers you say you are getting on your oximeter 93 to 97 your lungs would have to be pulling 100% of their capacity, so your lungs are back to normal, working like they did before you started smoking. they will get much better in the future so good luck , and may the force be with you THANKS RALPH
I asked my pulmonologist why my breathing capacity was still at 60% even when I feel fantastic now and thought for sure that it would have increased...basically, what he said it that I have been reconditioning my lungs to work at a higher capacity (I now do a lot of hiking, walking and treadmill) and that in time, my breathing capacity should improve, percentage wise...I am just so grateful to be able to breathe again! Yay me! :-) Thanks so much Ralph!
Your the best,, Good luck.
:-)...Thanks Ralph...we all are awesome! Have an awesome day and Good luck to you as well!
It's so nice to see improvement. Months ago we were all saying when will we get through this? Looks like the time has come and I am so happy we were able to pull through it together. Keith
OMG Keith you are so right...we were in such a bad place...I am so happy with all of our progress...especially when I was feeling hopeless not that long ago ...Yay us!
i"M JUST guessing that you no longer need oxygen at night, am I right ??
I still do, unfortunately...I will see what happens when I see him again in January and then we will see...it's a pain in the arsh...but I feel soon I will be released from the loud machine! haha

Wish you felt better. I maybe have 1 day or so where anxiety creeps in. I'm not sure why it happens but I just let it happen and it goes away after awhile. I no longer have real breathing issues thank God for that. I'm sure it will get better for you in time since you smoked for so long. Hang in there and post your thoughts anytime if it helps. I'm always in and out. Keith
It sure has Ralph....Thank you
I am experiencing the same thing. I quit 6 months ago. I even run out of breath while speaking. My doctor has looked me over and there isn't any physical ailments. I personally believe it to be a little anxiety slipping in and also, not deep breathing that nicotine in the way I did before. I'm not going to let this upset me. I'll give it 6 more months and also, I am now deep breathing daily.
