Yep, I had this too, it is definitely not a tonsil stone (I get those also). This one is nowhere near my tonsil, more on the soft palate area. I just rinsed with mouthwash and the white spot went away! Did not *wash* away, but something in the antiseptic mouthwash made it "pop" I guess. Weird -- I will keep an eye on it to see if it returns.
Regarding the tonsil stones, I do the same thing many of you do to dig them out (I use a q-tip or pen cap!) BUT almost always end up getting a headcold as a result of doing this. Of course I always wash hands first and disinfect the digging tool first. Lately after tonsil-stone digging, I gargle with the antiseptic mouthwash and that seems to help avoid the cold, but doesn't always do the trick. I have to weigh the benefits each time: dig the annoying crud out and suffer a cold or hope it comes out on it's own...
More weirdness: Sometimes when I shout a lot (at a concert or sports game or just playing with my kids) a tonsil stone will work its way out then. Good luck fellow sufferers!!
Thank you for the advise going to try it :)
I tired your advise now the spot is gone , I still continue to gargle with mouthwash to avoid getting it back ; but time will tell. Now my throat is a little irritated but not sore . Thank you for the advise :) Saved me money going to the DR. I will keep a eye on the sisuation and continue to watch for the reoccuring spot .
Hello,
Just wanted to add a few lines from my experience in hopes that might be helpful to someone.
Having dealt with these "tonsil stones" for about 5 years, going visit doctors has proven useless and I almost had my tonsils surgically removed in ignorance as the doctors could not give me a reasonable answer to these nasty invaders, I have finally found the cause! Thankfully and prayerfully I wouldn’t give up without more research.
After what feels like a lifetime dealing with these disgusting peices of refuse, I believe I have finally found something that has been a major trigger to the tonsil stone formation..
Coffee creamers, liquid and powered have been proven by trail of elimination to be the biggest instigator for the disturbing stubborn stones. Coffee creamers have many added artificial ingredients, not to mention the genetically modified high fructose corn syrup:/
Research these things; becoming informed concerning the GM HFCS in the creamer has made a big difference for me. GM-HFCS is in almost every food known to man these days but being informed is better than living in ignorance. There is freedom in knowing the Truth Hope this hopes someone!
i had the exact same thing, but it wont go away or i wouldnt feel it, so i didnt think much of it. however, this morning after i was eating a bagel, i felt it again and it was such a bother. so i used my nails and i pressed on it and to my utter disgust a white piece came out that looked like cottage cheese or bacon fat, but i didnt smell it because i was too grossed out to care about the odor. my only concern is, will it come back? and why do we get these??
thanks for all the information everyone! after having dealt with it for over a week, i decided it was time for this problem to go. i just used one of those tooth pics that also floss and poked at the buildup once and it popped out. it was the size of a grain of rice and it smelled like death but its gone and im happy. for the longest time ive wondered what it was but not anymore. thanks again! -Phil
sorry i'm reading all of these answers....and i've got to laugh. HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY GONE TO THE DOCTOR ABOUT THIS!!!!!?
