Have you had a tooth pulled within the last few months or recent at all? I had one pulled about 7 months ago and dr said it was close to my nasal cavity but had to come out. About a month ago I got the common cold and ever since have been suffering from what you are describing (pus like snot with a bad smell) also am blowing my nose about every 10-20 mins for weeks since I got sick. I have been told it is sinusitis and need to get an X-Ray and may need surgery if antibiotics don't do the trick. Was also told not to wait because I know someone it happened to and it caused an infection in their jaw and teeth and they had to get every tooth ripped out. My appt is coming up and I'm hoping for the best!
Good luck tho.

Unless you're going to offer real medical advice, not just religious hokum like drinking water, keep it to yourself.

well dairy products are an allergen as milk is. one of the best way to cure is to never eat it again or drink it. to cure smell and to even clean blood clotting and bleeding in the sinus. that dairy products will lead too. expensive dangerous operations. rinse with saline salutation for a couple of days . Then rinse nose with Your urine for three weeks. but never again any dairy. get your hands on the best auntie biotic for the nasal cavities and infection is cured. with just antibiotic it will not work. But be ready what you are doing is flushing out the dirty mucus and infection in nasal chambers . and with urine it gushes mucus out fast. try to hold your head back or lay back and fill nose or spray with a empty salon solution empty bottle drink lots of water to help in the process. remember no more dairy products, flush with urine, drinks lots of fluids and the best antibiotic for the nasal. also stay away from corn sugar ,syrup coca cola. no more soda. avoid tea for awhile as it make you bleed more. stay away from glutton it is made from seeds and seeds are meant for animals to eat.

I had a failed root canal, and the tooth extracted. I smelled a horrible smell for the past 3-4 months. Tried Amoxicillin, Augmentin, now Clindamycin. They all make the smell go away, but when antibiotics are stopped, the infection and the smell comes back. I used saline nasal spray several times, tilted my head all the way back so that I could feel the solution filling my upper sinuses as well. Finally, yesterday, I irrigated my sinus more than I had in the past, like used half a bottle, and lots of light greenish mucus, I kept blowing and more would come out, then all of the sudden a major blob of greyish greenish mucus, like the size of my thumbnail or larger became dislodged and I blew it out. I was in shock and a little disgusted. Since I blew this blob out of my nose, the smell is gone, the congestion is gone, the burning in my sinus is gone...Try the irrigation with head upside down....look it up on the internet....the flip turn flush...it really helped to soften the mucus to get it to dislodge! Good Luck!!!

See my reply below to Bree's post...I am Guest...I JUST got rid of this nastiness...I had same thing. It would smell horrible and I wondered if others could smell it. I smelled it if I plugged one nostril, it smelled like rotting garbage. I think the odor filled my work space and I was paranoid people could smell it!! Especially noticeable when bending over to clean, etc. Completely irrigate the sinus, drink lots of water and be patient! I worked some chunks out of my nose and the smell is now gone!!! I am so relieved. Good Luck to you!!!!

Yes I agree that it's your upper tooth that is causing that TERRIBLE rotting smelly mucus coming out of your nose. Is the toothache and smelly nostril on the same side? Mine are . I actually saw in my xray the infecting tooth penetrated my sinuses, Resulting in that smelly mucus that doesn't give! My smelly snot started on wednesday with a high fever of 102.5, then on Thursday I got 2 teeth pulled. Today is Saturday and I still have the smelly mucus. I did a neil med rinse last nite, and didn't do much. Ive been on antibiotics since Thursday night, so I'm on my 5th dose maybe. I'm hoping the meds will clear this up? Crazy how u wouldn't think smelly mucus could come from an abscessed /infected tooth...but it makes sense when your upper teeth are Close to your sinus cavitiy. Now I've heard that the only way to get rid of the smelly mucus is ti " have the dentist drill into the bone of the extracted teeth, 1 or 2 mm, with a "burr" on the he drill. He needs to drill enough into your bone to release the infection , and have that nasty stuff go away . I wouldn't wish it on anyone. My tooth extraction pain doesn't even compare to the god awful smell of this mucus. And it's constantly coming out! I pop a ripped cotton ball in my nose to plug it, and I get a big rush of that smell, and I know the mucus is coming. Worst thing you'll EVER smell, trust me. I want this gone. I know others can smell it too, thank god I had 3 days off this week for my fever and tèwth extraction. It's rancid.
Has anyone experienced what I've experienced, ? Hope I've helped at least one person reading this, with my experience . Blessings to stay healthy, and banish smelly mucus!

DAIRY PRODUCTS DO IT TO YOU! Maybe you're (a little) lactose intolerant? For the rest of us that have this problem and are not lactose intolerant, you have a sever sinus infection and need antibiotics asap, the shitty part is that they are steroids and take at least 3 days to kick in and you won't see big improvements till around day 5 but you'll have that smell of death/low tide/manure until the infection has drained and gone which could be over a week. I'm on day 9 and still have that constant smell and the occasional little nose runs that make me vomit. Stack your antibiotic with Dayquil/Nyquil, Sudafed, tylenol, ibuprofen, and nasonex as directed to help it along but either way, you're in for a not so cool recovery. Oh and after you take a round of your meds, wait a good 45 mins until they are doing thier job and jump in a hot shower. Lotions on the face help kind of help mask that smell, I've read people using perfumes as well, whatever floats your mucus boat. Good luck and gods speed mijos!
