Hello, I'm 25 years old. I searched the Internet looking for other people that had the same thing happen to them. I smoked weed for the first time when I was 17, I was not happy after my numbness would last weeks. I was scared to smoke again. Age of 20 I smoked with my hubby and same thing happened. I would tell people why this happens to me and people just make fun of me. I went to Amsterdam and bought a cupcake aka space cake. I had only two small bites just eating the top off. Now it's been two weeks and the same sh*t! I even was sitting in the restaurant yesterday and almost had a panic attack from numbness and everything around me felt so loud and close. All the times before I barely smoked, I don't drink. I already knew after my Amsterdam trip this was my last time smokin
I'm a 19 year old male who recently experienced this same reaction (panic attacks, tingling and sense-of-touch problems, depersonalization that lasted several days) after smoking a small amount of marijuana, but I'm feeling a lot better now.
Important things to remember:
1. It is extremely rare that one incidence of marijuana use would cause permanent or long-lasting sensory damage, especially if you have used it before and been fine.
2. The bad reaction to marijuana was TRAUMATIC mentally and physically. As with any trauma, your body needs time to recover, and there are some things you can do help yourself heal (see below).
3. There are people out there who can help you. In many jurisdictions, medical and mental health professionals are required to keep what you tell them confidential. If you are feeling very sick, going to the doctor can at least help to rule out any underlying medical conditions. Be honest with them about how you're feeling.
4. In most cases that I've heard of, this reaction to weed comes as a result of underlying anxiety or other personal stress. Helping to ease the underlying stress in your life can help get rid of these symptoms.
5. Worrying about your symptoms WILL NOT HELP. Your body just needs time to heal. Whenever you think about your symptoms, try to think about something else. Focus on breaking the cycle of fear and worry.
Tips for getting better:
1. DO NOT SMOKE MORE WEED, DRINK ALCOHOL OR USE ANY OTHER PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS without consulting a doctor UNTIL THESE SYMPTOMS GO AWAY. Using more weed or alcohol may just prolong the recovery process.
2. Try to live as healthy as possible: Stay hydrated, eat a balanced diet, and get lots of sleep. Exercise is also good.
3. Spend time with friends and/or other people who care about you. Even if you feel a little out-of-it, interpersonal contact will help you feel better.
4. Do things that you enjoy to take your mind of your symptoms and stress. Distraction is very helpful in this case.
5. Try meditating. This may help relieve the underlying stress. Also, going outside may help relieve stress.
For me these symptoms did go away in less than one week when I followed the recommendations above. My friend had similar symptoms that took longer to heal, but he is better now too. If this lasts for more than a month, you may want to see a doctor. But honestly, not worrying about it is the best way to heal. Stay positive!
It started with me having a very bad trip in Amsterdam from eating space cake and every time I smoke after I get the symptoms
