What makes you so sure its a yeast infection. Those are NOT the systoms of a yeast infection.dont scare people with things that arnt true.its not right.
You are correct. He is wrong and yes he is trying to help, but unless he is a male doctor please let it go in one ear and out the other. First step: go to the doctor. If you do not have anything it is caused by ovulation. I have re-occuring BV and yeast infections so I know the difference between all three. I was going to the doctor 5-8 times a year to reassure I was clean and healthy. Finally I took everything into my own hands.
When it gets close to that time of the month discharge can become whitish/yellow and it smells a bit sour not fishy (go to the doctor if it is fishy). Panty liners are good while on your period, but wearing them every day is not. They collect moisture and yeast grows in warm damp areas so you are just asking for a yeast infection if you wear them everyday. Also, you are given anti biotics for BV. Anti biotics can cause a yeast infection (so he is wrong) You are given an anti funglal for a yeast infection. Actaully, at least he is trying because most guys are clueless to this stuff and always assume it is an STD.
This is what I say...if the doctor tells you it is not a yeast or a BV. Wash with soap that is made for your vagina not your body. They sell this soap at walmart in the tampon section. Wear cotton lined undies, loose pants, eat yogurt 2-3 times a week, take pro biotics (look it up) it explains how this helps with reaccuring smells, bv, and yeast. Your vagina cleans itself. Don't go on a "clean vagina freak out" I use to do that and i always made it worse.
I have no idea where they are getting that most women get it 2-3 times in their life. Most women get it more, after sex, after their period, sweets, sweat, and among all other a balance in flora and yeast.
Their are plenty of women who have these issues, do not diagnose yourself before seeing a doctor. After finding out you are healthy that's when you should try new things like I listed above.
I finally have stopped freaking out and going to the doctor. No more BV or yeast infection freak outs. I do still get a sour odor right before my period and while I am on it...I hope you aren't having anyone down there while on your period anyways so really only you know and can smell it until it goes away. Talk to a doctor and other women who have these issues. These sort of sites have really helped me figure out what is actually going on down there.
The comment below says only you can smell the sour odour of your vagina, but what if you can actually scent it while you're wearing clothes and doing normal things like sitting. Does it mean that other people can smell it as well for it's so strong that you can smell it even though you're dressed and not smelling your panties or bending down to smell it (:D). I'm always really embarrassed if I can feel the smell in my nose (I've got this sour odour -problem).

Its perfectly normal for a woman to have about two in their life. but if you dont get the anit-bods the smell and discharge could get over whelming. so please..for the sake of humanity lol..just go get the anit bods =]

A change in scent can in fact be a symptom of a yeast infection. Coming from a female, that was my only symptom and I had a relatively minor yeast infection. It cleared up on its own as a lot do. A lot also tend to go unnoticed. Also, he wasn't off about the white or yellow discharge he just missed the 'cottage cheese' part. This doesn't make him uneducated, just not 100% on the topic, which he is a guy so it is understandable. If you want to call someone uneducated, look up the difference between Your and You're. You made yourself look very uneducated with your reply.
But I digress, My rule of thumb is if you think something is up, go to a doctor, only take Forum advise with a grain of salt. Most people do not go to medical school and can not tell just by a few sentences what you do or do not have.
Hope those of you with those issues of ph, odor, and else can get it cleared up soon!
They gave us a book of.the female body so that's offensive because I kno alot
Also, most physicians will require lab tests before making a diagnosis. Many others will just blindly prescribe antibiotics for precaution, which will in turn cause yeast infection (especially if taking oral contraceptives, as noted above).
Women should "run the gamut" of questions themselves. There are only a few questions to address and they are all noted within these posts. I believe that too many people try to medicallize everything and physicians are making millions because of it.
