I had the same issue, came here for answers, and you guys had none. I then called my oral surgeon and found out that it is a normal procedure, and the cheek is used to help close up the whole in the gum. Makes sense I guess.
You're perhaps being fobbed off. Guys please don't disregard it if you were able to sense any negative body language from any of the team. And if there was any other form of damage made during the procedure the dentist/team maybe did not take the needed care and attention. Many people disregard it and end up suffering long term damages and having others after them face the same or similar consequences. Address it and make a complaint immediately.
I HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE
It is common for them to stitch the cheek to the wisdom tooth site in order to protect the hole from food and make it heal faster. Normally after 3 days its fine to cut these stitches though.
My surgery was only 2 days ago so my stitches havnt dissolved yet. I had a lower right one, (one in front of the wisdom) out. I don't know how much it has swelled but I'm certain that my cheek is also sewn to my gum. I just hope that mines separates like yours did. How ever long they take to disolve
I would love to cut my stitcjes , so that I can move my cheek. The only problem is that all you can see is skin. I can't see the stitches, and I'm scared of cutting something else instead
Same thing. I was supposed to get all 4 wisdoms removed 4 days ago but could only due 3 due to a complication with the freezing they gave me so they stitched up over the 4th one where they had started and sent me home. Then I couldn't figure out why that one hurt so much the next few days until I realized it was stitched to my cheek! I left it until I hurt so bad I couldn't even eat and woke me up at night in pain so the next day I just cut them out myself and it feels much better!!!
I just had my wisdom pulled 5 days ago stitches still aren't dissolved and attached to my cheek. It hurts to sneeze laugh and kiss my husband. The face is still swollen too. Please help
Thank you for this post! I got a molar extracted 5 days ago woke up this morning and swore my cheek was sutured to my gum line! As 5 days is too long to have extreme mouth pain after an extraction I read this article and went straight back to dentist this morning turns out dentist did accidently suture my cheek to my gum line it healed and that's hey I couldn't eat or open my mouth 5 days later. It is now separated and I feel so much better!
Same but mine feels mutilated on one side like they tied my cheek in a knot I hope it heels a lot smoother because it feels like i got a baby mountain on my cheek lo
I just had the same problem. On next day of extraction i felt like my mouth is not opening well. When i tried to see in the miror i found that my cheeck has been stiched with the gum but after seeing this page i found that it is common practice. And i felt relaxed.
Thank you guys.
I'm experiencing the same thing and after my upper wisdom tooth been extracted My cheeks had swollen up and like you guys I too went feeling around my mouth with my tongue trying to figure out how this oral surgeon stitched me up. I have this irritating right feeling in my cheeks which also causing me to have a serious migraine. After my tooth was extracted they gave me this medication that I've never heard of called MapAp Arthritis this doesn't work what so ever with the pain I'm still experiencing which has been 4 days now. Though the swelling did go down some. I'm pregnant rite now with twins and I hope this Medication and process did no harm when the surgeon told me I would be giving Tylenol and instead He told me that this medicine is safe. Just wondering if anyone heard of this medicine and if so was it helpful or harmful??
Thank you so much I was really scared my cheek was going to be held over the hole permanently
I had my #3 molar pulled a week and a half ago and bone grafting for an implant in 3-4 months (6 months for me bc I'll be traveling). I went in today for my follow-up and told my dentist I felt like the inside of my cheek was being pulled when I smile or laugh. He said he did it on purpose to cover the hole from the extraction and with time it should stretch a little and won't be so tight. But also said he'd be undoing it when he puts in the implant and it will be back to normal. I still have a stitch in. Forgot to ask about that. :o/
I had my wisdom tooth removed this past Friday and had the same thing happen. I freaked out not knowing what was going on. I did some research and found out that what the Dr did was called Periostem Releasing Incision.
