I had the growling everyday for a year and I hated when the classroom got quiet because I was so afraid it was going to happen. I went to the doctor and got tested for Celiac Disease. Trust me its either CELIAC DISEASE or you are lactose intolerant. Everyone is talking about Anxiety on this form and this does play a key role. People can have the gene for Celiac Disease and when you go through a stressful experience in your life or you are just an anxious person, the gene can turn on. This is what happened to me Sophomore year. I went gluten free and I haven't had the growling in years. However, since Celiac is an Autoimmune disease, stress can make the symptoms a million times worse. So....to the people that are on this form who said that its just anxiety, that is not 100 percent true. Yes if you are anxious about it, it will just make the growling worse.
THESE ARE THE STEPS YOU NEED TO TAKE
1. Go to the doctors and ask for a blood test to check for celiac disease
2. If they say you have it, then you need to go 100% gluten free (it took me about a year to feel completely better and this is because your intestines are torn apart and need to heal) and in addition, you need to make sure that if you are an anxious person, you need to learn how to control this. Since Celiac is an Autoimmune disease stress makes the symptoms flare up
3. If you do not have it....still try going gluten free for about 2 months just in case you are gluten intolerant
4. If that doesn't work, try going lactose intolerant or get a breath test for it
Best of luck to everyone! Know that you are not alone

This exact same thing happens to me. I've had it since secondary school (so like age 11, and weirdly I did not experience it beforehand) and I still experience it today (I'm now 20)! As everyone on this forum has already said, it is highly embarrassing and there is literally nothing worse than being in a quiet classroom, assembly/presentation, or (what I fear the most) an exam hall when you have this problem. Strangely enough, however, mine occurs most frequently when I am in these situations as opposed to when I am not (say I'm at home). It's almost as if it knows to growl at the most inappropriate times... Is this the same for anyone else?

sometimes i would be watching a movie with a friend at night in their room and we would be really close (literally touching) and i could feel it about to happen so i would just start talking loudly or finding ways to distract them. i hated it if my friend was laying on me in some way because i thought he would hear it (especially if his head was on my stomach).
