I have this problem. I have to sigh or something to cover up the noise and it's really embarrassing. It's good to know that someone has the same problem as me. The people who sit next to me give me really weird looks. I've been to the doctor but they said they don't know what it was. They gave me some wind-eze but it didn't help. I hope we get a diagnosis and solution soon.

i would just like to say that its incredible how many people experience the same thing as i do. ive had the growls for about a year now and it definitely impacts school. i always dread going into classes especially when theres a test or exam because its always extremely quiet which tends to make me uncomfortable which then triggers the noises. for me, i have noises that come from different areas of my stomach, my back, my throat and butt. its so horrible to experience every day of your life. my mum thinks im overreacting but all of us know that its a daily struggle and increases anxiety chronically. i have a few theories and things that have worked for me which include: try not to drink lots of coffee - ive noticed that it happens more after i digest dairy products. as hard as it is (i know) try your hardest to not think about it. distract yourself. it didnt happen for a few days because it wasnt constantly on my mind. since there are no "cures" for this, i do believe that somehow it is all in your mind and thinking about it constantly will trigger it. it seems to have a placebo effect. go to the toilet and burp as much as you can before going out. try eating smaller meals throughout the day. gaviscon might work too. drink a big cup of warm water and lemon in the morning before breakfast. i think it may have something to do with stress also. i was in a class where we were all doing meditation with our year advisor who is into spirituality. i left after a few minutes because it was dead silent and the noises started to happen and i began to feel extremely uncomfortable. the next day i told her why i left (she didnt actually realise i left because she had her eyes shut) and i said that i dont know if i should see a doctor or not. she told me that it was an energy blockage somewhere in my body and that its not a doctor matter. i hope ive helped even a little bit. i feel all of your pain. its such an awful circumstance. also, if it happens in your throat as well make sure you're breathing properly, slowly and deeply. it helps. try not to chew gum as much because it increases the risks of swallowing too much air which i think is why the noises happen.

It's because you are allergic to gluten! I had the same problem in high school and went to the doctor and they told me I had celiac disease. Even if you don't have celiac disease you probably have gluten intolerance and need to cut it out of your diet

PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF THE GROWLING
I had the growling everyday for a year and I hated when the classroom got quiet because I was so afraid it was going to happen. I went to the doctor and got tested for Celiac Disease. Trust me its either CELIAC DISEASE or you are lactose intolerant. Everyone is talking about Anxiety on this form and this does play a key role. People can have the gene for Celiac Disease and when you go through a stressful experience in your life or you are just an anxious person, the gene can turn on. This is what happened to me Sophomore year. I went gluten free and I haven't had the growling in years. However, since Celiac is an Autoimmune disease, stress can make the symptoms a million times worse. So....to the people that are on this form who said that its just anxiety, that is not 100 percent true. Yes if you are anxious about it, it will just make the growling worse.
THESE ARE THE STEPS YOU NEED TO TAKE
1. Go to the doctors and ask for a blood test to check for celiac disease
2. If they say you have it, then you need to go 100% gluten free (it took me about a year to feel completely better and this is because your intestines are torn apart and need to heal) and in addition, you need to make sure that if you are an anxious person, you need to learn how to control this. Since Celiac is an Autoimmune disease stress makes the symptoms flare up
3. If you do not have it....still try going gluten free for about 2 months just in case you are gluten intolerant
4. If that doesn't work, try going lactose intolerant or get a breath test for it
Best of luck to everyone! Know that you are not alone

I have the same exact problem and it had been happening for a year now and I went to my first doctor appointment the other day and my doctor prescribed me miralax for two weeks to relieve my constipation and make regular bowel movements. I've just started so hopefully this works.

Hi, I'm also having the same problem for 1 year now. I'm an Asian and moved to Europe 1 year ago. I think my problem lies in diet changes and stress. I'm having severe depression. It's true that when you get stressed, the symptoms will get worsen. I started eating more bread and other wheat product plus dairy product when I moved here, so I tried to cut on the dairy things (milk, yogurt, etc.). But I haven't tried gluten-free diet so I think I will give it a go and see.
Anyway this disease also made me very panic and embarassed in classes. There was one seminar when I was sitting with many other students and teachers in quietness, listening to presentation. And my stomach made really loud noises which attracted attention from people around me. I was so embarassed I had to excuse myself to the toilet. And in break-time I could not bring myself to talk with anyone. It was like a nightmare. The day before that I had not had much sleep (only 2 hours) and at lunch on that day I happened to drink some gas beverage and ate a lot so the nightmare happened.

And in classes, if I happened to eat something less than 30 min before it, the noises will rises. Now I'm using probiotic which helps with bloating and reduces 50% of the noise. But I'm really desperate to find an absolute solution.

I'm having a lot of other problems as well and considering suicide. Reading your stories make me a bit relieved knowing that I am not alone.
