I have the exact same problem but on the left side of my neck , underneath my chin on the left ,along with an ear pain on the left ear aswell, it hurts a lot more at night when I'm about to go to bed , keeping me up until like 1 am! Funny thing is that the pain comes and go's one minute I feel no discomfort but then a few minutes later I start feeling discomfort under my chin again, and it aggravates it
until I get up, now I've been to the doctor and he said I didn't have an ear infection...I really don't know what it is , and I think not knowing is what kills us all.

I have your answers......if the pain is located on the left side, deep in the throat yet close to the jaw, it could very well be a swollen tonsil or tonsil tissues, which normally extend down both sides of your throat. This adenoid tissue can also carry groves and holes, which food gets caught. The food rots and becomes calcified. You get a tonsil stone, and sometimes these never come out. Your adenoid becomes swollen, and perpetually irritated.

The other option is a salivary gland stone or polyp. Much more painful, yet located in the same region.

I've had a tiny red spot on the left side of my neck for a very long time...if I touch it, it hurts deep inside but it hasn't changed.   I'm still alive and aside from the question of what is it? it only bothers me when I touch it.  Answers would be nice but medication for such a small nuisance seems overkill.  I have experienced extreme stress at various parts of my life but right now everything is fine and the spot persists...an answer would be nice but in the whole scheme of things, life is good!

Me too. But mine does not hurt while swallowing. It is located on the left side about an inch from the back of my jaw and is very deep, not on the surface. I think I need to see my doctor.

I was diagnosed with TN several years ago. For the last 2 months I've had pain and sores on left side of tongue and pain near submaxillary gland which runs under the jaw. There is pain from the top of my head going down to submaxillary gland including the ear.. My ear feels full, but nothing is seen. Is TN creating my sores, pain inside my mouth, and tingling on lip (left side)? I also have an accompanying dry mouth left side with face, lips slightly swollen, and inflammation surrounding vocal cord.

My doctor thought it may be a blocked salivary gland (left side) giving me dry mouth, swelling of tongue, sores on tongue (left side), slight tingling under jaw to lip radiating up my left side of face including ear and above to my head. He wants to try and flush out (clear) my left sub-maxillary (salivary) gland . This syndrome, including dry mouth has been going on for 2 months including redness of side side of vocal cord.

I too have had these symptoms.  I just got over a cold with sore throat and post nasal drip,  a few weeks later the left side of my neck hurt - right next to my adams apple - where you feel for your pulse.  It hurts to raise my neck sometimes, and really hurts to press on it.  I found out this is my left carotid artery and is a common thing.  You just need to treat with nsaids or anti-inflammatory drugs.  Here's what its called:

Carotidynia is a symptom of unilateral vascular neck pain which was first described by Temple Fay in 1927. The cardinal physical finding is tenderness on palpation of the carotid artery. The incidence and prevalence of carotidynia are unknown. Most authors agree that it is common but frequently unrecognized.

The pain of carotidynia is most often only on one side and localized to the neck, although radiation to the face, ear, or malar region is not uncommon. It is frequently described as dull and throbbing in character and continuously present, although day-to-day or hour-to-hour exacerbations and remissions are common. Severity varies from mild to agonizing, and the pain is frequently aggravated by swallowing, yawning, coughing, sneezing, or elevating the head while moving it toward the contralateral side. A history of migraine may be present (eg, the first and third cases). In other cases, a history of previous pharyngitis, tonsiitis, upper respiratory tract infection, oral conditions, or recent dental procedures is reported (cg, the second and third cases). Anxiety or fear of cancer is often present

Most of these cases, especially those with an underlying viral etiology, will respond to heat, reassurance, antiinflammatory agents, and time. Reassurance is important because unilateral neck pain of some duration is often sufficient to cause a great deal of anxiety in some patients and their physicians because of its unknown nature and the fear of cancer.

Thanks. When I was recently at my dentist I suggested he check me for TMJ. He said no, but it looked swollen and inflamed. He said I probably had an infection and a swollen lymph node. The pain and swelling have abated.

It sounds more like an infections if you are getting chronic sinus infections this could cause it. Sometimes there are defects in the sinus cavity that allow bacteria to grow because of the defect, causing more sinus infections lymph nodes process infections and helps your body deal with them. This is prolly why it stops when on antibiotics. What is prolly happening is the lymph node is getting inflamed or slightly swollen in stead of swelling out its swelling up toward the tendon and esophagus. The tendon with that constant pressure would travel up to your jaw and against the esophagus would cause discomfort swallowing. Its prolly some type of infection.

I also believe I'm experiencing the same thing. Pain usually last about a week or so, and is located on the left side of my neck. It does make me feel like the left side of my throat is sore, and causes pain in my ear. I am 31 now but my past history includes a lot of ear infections as well- though the last decade has been pretty good. Mine is also sore to touch and I can touch right where a doctor would touch in my neck to feel my pulse, and that's exactly where the pain is located. When I touch it, it feels like I'm pushing something small inward, and I hear like a internal clicking sound. I have been to an ENT. Upon initial examination, he commented that my mouth seemed really dry. I explained to him that I had developed an ulcer in my esophagus in my early 20's and since then, I always feel thirsty. He told me he thinks I have Sjögren's syndrome and sent me for blood work. Blood work showed that I have an antibody in my blood (anti-ro), and that seemed to be enough evidence for him. He also sent me for an ultrasound ( when I got the ultrasound, I did not have the pain), and it did not show anything. So he told me that it was my salivary glands getting blocked up, and my pain is relieved when the blockage disappears. From researching where one would get the location of pain cause from blocks ducts, I don't believe this is the pain I am actually experiencing. I have been suffering with this pain, on and off for over 4 years now. I too am concerned and I wonder if any of you have gotten results yet? I do not believe what I am experiencing is cause from muscle tension, or acid reflux- but I am no doctor and definitely feel lost as to what it actually is...

I have the pain in the left side of my neck near my adams apple. It hurts up into my teeth and ear. I almost feel like someone punched me in the side of the face but then still have the pain in the neck with it. It doesnt always hurt when i swallow but does every now and then. The pain is most sever when i lift my head high or turn my head the whole way, and obviously when i push on it. I have read TMJ, Tetanus, acid reflux, lymph problems, and a few other possibilities. Did anyone ever figure out what their problem was? I am in the no insurance boat so.. All help is appreciated. Thanks.
