I have this exact issue. Random turns of the head will cause the pain to happen, and it's always on the left side. I started experiencing this pain almost 1 month ago and, coincidentally, I was sick at the time. I went to a walk-in clinic and they said it could be tonsil stones or due to de-hydration. Well I'm not sick anymore and it still hurts (the pain occurs at least once a day, but it happened twice today {11/28/13}). I'm going to try and get an appointment tomorrow and see if I can schedule an x-ray or something. Hopefully I can get some answers!
Note: This pain is not a sore throat. It's a hard pain under the jaw and the back of the throat.
I think you hit the nail on the head. You just described all my symptoms exactly. I'm a singer and for the last 2 years have been constantly dealing with the throat and vocal issue you mentioned in your last sentance. At least now I can guide my Doctor in what to look for. Thank you so much.
i too have same symptoms
I'm experiencing this right now, for about 2 weeks now. just after having the flu with sinus infection. it's the lower left neck area, when it finger press to pin point the pain, i hit the carteroid or get a nerve pain shooting up my jaw to left ear. coughing causes some pressure as well. Othertimes the pain is just there. very concerning and worry some
I have this but on right side. Not my gland that has in the past flared up right up under the jaw. This is right up against my esophagus, deep in on the right side. Had it two weeks now. seems mild in the mornings but gets worse throughout the day. No other systems. By mid day it hurts when I swallow or look to the left, bad. Switching medical plans right now so will go in soon.
Ive had this feeling and im told by ENT it is LPR. I also have heartburn but rarely. Its called silent reflux. ENT showed me some ulcers on my throat which are the sign of reflux and likely cause of the throat pain. Glands can also swell cause of the immune system kicking in to heal the ulcers. So i suggest discussing this with an ENT and checking for signs of reflux
Motormarrow. I have the SAME exact thing! Word for word, the way you described it! I also have had no luck in finding any information about it. How strange!
Have you considered parasites? We all have them to one degree or another and some like to hang out exactly where you're talking about. It's pretty simple to do a parasite cleanse, it just takes time. Unfortunately a lot of test by western medicine tend to test negative for things like this.
Something to consider...
I also have these same symptoms for several years. I went to ENT and ended up having surgery for salivary gland removal. Though the gland was infected it still didn't cure the problem. Had my tonsils removed by the same Dr. Still didn't cure the pain. I finally went to another ENT who diagnosed me with Acid Reflux. I didn't believe her that it was the casue but after some research I decided to take the meds she perscribed. Prilosec. After a few days the pain was gone. It's not instant but it does work. The acid actually starts to burn the esophagus and can go as high as the throat, sinuses, and ears. Fullness in ears in the morning, stuffy nose, sore throat and lots more. Prilosec actually triggers the healing along with stopping the heart burn. However whenever I take a long time away from the meds, the symptoms all come back. Check into it. I hope this helps everyone.
I have experienced the symptoms you've described. I also have a conditon called fibromyalgia. When I first noticed any fibro symptoms, it was because my fingers were going numb. What would that have to do with a neck/throat ache? Well, apparently, if you have fibro the muscles tighten gradually and can 'sneak up on you' so to speak, resulting in a 'frozen' muscle. This symptom can come-and-go as well. For example, if a person is tensed up from repetitive motion (such as typing) or anxiety it will increase the severity and length of the episode. With fibromyalgia certain muscles are always in some type of spasm, but there are occasions when one area in particular 'acts up' - such as resulting from a tooth extraction. I don't know why taking an antibiotic helps. Perhapst the anticipation of experiencing pain relief causes the sufferer to relax. Another possibility is that the tension, whether physical or emotional, has been lowering the body's immune system and an infection will target the body's weakest point. Removing the source of the problem would obvioiusly be the best way to address the issue. To get a proper diagnosis of fibro, you would need to see a PHYSIATRIST (NOT a psychiatrist), who is a Doctor of Physical Medicine. The problem will not show up on an MRI or CAT Scan. You need an experienced diagnostician to do a simple test to give you a proper diagnosis. In the meantime, applying intermittent pressure to the center of the muscle spasm may bring temporary relief, as well as any relaxation exerises and/or Physical Therapy. It might be helpful to observe how you position yourself when working to figure out if you are exacerbating the problem by the way you sit or stand for extended periods of time. The physiatrist may also prescribe muscle relaxants and/or a sleep aid. Fibromyalgia has been associated with sleep problems.
I Have the same thing but on right side jaw ache and sometimes ear sore .have been on 500mg penicillian for a week and not doing anything what do i do now
Look under, "PHYSIATRIST", a specialist who can diagnose fibromyalgia. You can also look up, "fibromyalgia" on line which will demonstrate how to check yourself to see if you have the traditional sore spots on your body.
I have been having similar issues for about 5 years now and it has flared up currently - I tend to think it's related to the delicate neck muscles and nerve centres. I am a guitarist who has had rather heavy guitars hanging around my neck for the best part of 30 years and have a lot of neck problems for which I get massages from time to time. I did ask my doc about my pain 5 years ago when it first started and he seemed to think it was related to muscles. The fact that it hasn't really changed or gotten worse and is largely intermittent gives me some assurance that it is probably nothing too serious (hopefully)... but how I do love to worry and freak myself out by cyber diagnosing lol
