My inglish is not good. I am a sri lankan. I have the same problem. Ther is no medicin for this matter. But I like to say. This strange thing have a connection with evil spirits. Try to bless or somthing like that. In our county we worship to god karthik and chanting pirith. By using these methord you can control it. Sory for the language. I have to say somthing more but my english knolede is very poor.
Hi... did you find out what it was. I have this ache since yesterday and can't figure out what it is.
Holy cow...me too. I have this same problem to a T. What is it?
I've got the same thing too, and doctors don't understand, I'm waiting to go to a ears throat nose dctr too, I'm on the waiting list hope it doesn't take too long and hope they figure it out :-) fingers crossed.
So happy to hear that others have this. This pain you've described comes and goes and is so sore. I'm very curious as to what this may be.
Thank you . I was worried
I, too, feel like I could have written the first post. My pain is to the left of my voice box, and feels like something is popping out of place. Very few people posted their health issues or background, so I think that would be helpful. I'm 38, female. I've had 2 septoplasty surgeries for deviated septum, about to have my third. (They don't tell you your nose will keep drifting back to its original position, so heads up if you're thinking about having this done.) It's difficult to breathe on the left side but I don't feel that I have a sinus infection. My tonsils were removed at age 30, and I don't have any soreness in my throat. I have complex, chronic migraines. Almost every day. I don't take anything for them other than Tylenol and Fioricet. I've had endoscopic migraine surgery (to no avail). Right now the left side of my forehead and parts of my left head and face are numb and it's been this way for about a year, and the vision is very blurry in my right eye, so I am undergoing testing for MS. I am trying to figure out if this problem is related to MS. I noticed the comments about Glossopharyngeal neuralgia, which is associated with MS, but my pain isn't that bad. It's more of a discomfort/mild pain when swallowing and a tenderness in that spot and just very difficult to swallow because it feels like there is something pressing on my throat from the outside. I think any type of neuralgia would be extremely painful, and this seems to be something in the soft tissues of my neck, not my throat or esophagus. I am treated for GERD, I take omeprazole and cimetidine, and I've had no issues with increased reflux. I do have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid, but I've had no symptoms to indicate a worsening problem with my thyroid. So basically I am just as stumped as when I started reading this thread. I am guessing it has something to do with my neurological problems, which is my biggest fear. My only comfort is that this seems to be a pretty common, benign complaint and hopefully it's nothing to worry about. If I find out anything after my diagnostic testing in the next couple of months, I will update.
This is the same person from the last post. I forgot to mention that in 2013 I did have all my wisdom teeth removed and suffered from dry socket and an infection in my lower left jaw. I was on antibiotics for a couple months. No problems since. Not sure that would be related, but thought I would mention it.
Just another update from the last 2 posts. I saw my doctor, he said my lymph nodes were swollen and said a tender one is probably pressing on my throat. He said it was likely something viral (I have zero symptoms of a viral illness), and said it would go away in 5-7 days. While I disagree with the diagnosis, it did go away. My lymph nodes have been enlarged since I was a child, I don't think they were any more swollen than usual. I think this pain was possibly related to my migraine. I've read that migraine can be associated with carotidynia as many people mentioned on here. The pain near my carotid artery went away when the migraine went away, so that is my best guess. Good luck, everyone.
how did your follow up go?
Hi, this is Kat. I'm not sure if you were responding to me, but I didn't have to follow up with my PCP for the neck/carotid pain, but I will see my neurologist for a Visual Evoked Potential test on the 31st to rule out MS. It's possible my PCP was right about it being a swollen lymph node pressing on my throat (and carotid artery) because over the next few days I developed some sores on the left side of my tongue which have since resolved. That would explain the swollen node. Other than that, still a mystery!
I know exactly what everyone is referring to and I have the solution!
I have had the same thing for years and had many doctors look at it and and ENT's couldn't figure it out and a throat specialist looked with a Camera and said nothing's there.
It drove me crazy and caused me to eventually develop digestive disorders and IBS because I couldn't properly chew my food and the swallowing became uncomfortable.
A few days ago I went to a napropath who felt my throat and said right away that my tissues were adhering to my thyroid and the ducts that allow digestive saliva to flow into the mouth were plugged. He worked for almost an hour , manipulating my throat and neck tissues. It was slightly uncomfortable but I could tell it was having a positive impact. He asked if I get a lot of sore throats and I said YES. I actually wake up with one quite often. He said no wonder, because nothing could drain properly from my lymph nodes.
After he worked my throat and focused on that left side sore spot and moved down to my stomach and massaged a lot of swollen tissue out.
As soon as he finished, I was amazed because for the first time in years I could swallow without hearing a popping noise in my left ear and my throat didn't get a lump,
My stomach was much flatter the next few days too!!
Go see a naprapath!! I highly recommend!
I am done wasting my time and money with doctors!

My naprapath told me that many times this condition starts after a severe illness with a sore throat or earache. It never fully heals because the medications just treat the symptoms and not the cause.
This allows for inflammation and fluid to stay trapped in the area, causing a recurrence of pain and illness and a weak immune system.
Get the tissues worked out by a napropath and I'm hoping you all will feel the instant relief like I did!

Hi there, I'm anxious to find out myself but I read on top that someone was diagnosed with acid reflux and thats what was causing it. aince you mentioned heart burn. It might be the cause.
Me too , I first thought I pulled a muscle of some sort, but I only feel the soreness when I press down - look left or turn my head down pls advise , I've only had it recently but it's so ironic to find someone with the same issue
