Yeah i got it also

But mine is from me diving vertically into a pool and smashing my face on the bottom.

Neck pain is getting better and so is movement, but if i push my fingures into the left side of my neck almost right on my artery i get massive pain in my throat and on the back of my neck (almost spinal pain). It makes sense then that it is some kind of sprain or strain.

Mine only happened a few days ago though so i'm not stressed yet, i definitely won't be waiting 8 years to see someone but, lol.

I have had the pain now on my left side of the throat for 3 months. Has anyone been diagnosed yet with this. I went to see 2 different Drs. One said, it was just an allergy and it would pass another one gave me some claratin pills but still they have not worked. Sometimes it feels like I swallowed something and it is stuck there but continually hurts in the same spot on the left side.
Please post if anyone has been diagnosed with the problem and has found a cure.

Thanks
Juls

Fortunately, I have a diagnosis. I had an infection in my lower mandibular salivary gland. My salivary gland is blocked by a stone (calcium) deposit. It is blocking the saliva from that gland from entering my mouth, so it just hangs out there and became infected. It hurt like hell! Antibiotics, vicodin, and a CT scan later....my oral surgeon is recommending removal of the stone. In my case, he is also recommending my salivary gland be completely removed and sent to a pathologist (because I have dry mouth as another symptom). The oral surgeon feels that my mouth should'nt be so dry just because of one malfunctioning salivary gland. So, there it is. Go to an oral surgeon.

%-) I have read through all of these posts and all but one seems to indicate the pain being rather close to the jaw line. I have a similar phantom pain, but it is not that high.

Mine is on the left side of my neck. If you were looking at me, the slight bump (which may be there only because I keep touching the area) is just inside the large collection of tendons and muscles, the names of which I don't know, to the right of the center of my neck. if my head is down I have to dig for it, if my head is tilted back I can find it easily at the surface.

Throat doesn't hurt, no trouble swallowing, and no popping that I am aware. Gives me tension headaches though when it starts up, and it's quite sensitive to the touch. I too have been searching for diagrams etc so I at least know what it is on.

I should mention, I was in an accident at the beginning of November. I have pretty bad back pain, shoulder pain, and other injuries in my legs. I have yet to ask a doc about it, I too am uninsured. I told the no fault doc my neck hurt but they did little for me. I don't know if it is related to the accident or not, if it is it's covered, if not I get no treatment. If this sounds like any of you and you have been diagnosed, I would really like to know what I might be looking at.

Oh, btw. I don't know if this is realated or could be, but the other evening out of nowhere my eyes started crossing, literally. I couldn't control it and couldn't see right and got rather dizzy, but it passed in about 30-60 seconds.

It is amazing that so many people experience this problem and doctors don't pay enough attention. I have similar symptoms on the right side for about five years now. It happens about 3 times per year and lasts about 6 weeks. Few times it turned into a full blown glossopharyngeal neuralgia. To those who posted here and did not experience neuralgia: be happy. When this happens you just want to die and nobody seems able to help you. During acute pain I went to numerous specialists ENT, dentist, gastroenterologist and finally to neurologist. Very frustrating. I had numerous tests including 3 MRIs and nothing was ever found. The neurologist prescribed high doses of gabapentin let me survive the worst, but the cause was declared "unknown". Now, whenever pain stars to appear I take gabapentin. It does not eliminate pain completely, but allows to survive acute attack. the problem seems to be related to salivary glands or lymphatic nodes as during calm period I still experience throat irritation and bad taste in the mouth. I am curious about developments in this subject. The life goes on but there is no need to constantly suffer.

I have experienced some of the same things... The pain that I feel when I touch my left side of my neck/throat is what I call a piercing pain. Mine started with what felt as to be a sore throat but then I started feeling the tenderness in my neck/ throat area....
I go to see an Natural Herb Dr. and I was telling him about this pain like that of what was described on the very first post. He said that to him it sounds like lymphatic congestion, you may want to google that because I would be here all day if I wrote about what it is... There is two things that I have been taking for it which is a Lymph Gland Cleanse & a herb called Echinacea which is like a natural antibiotic... Hope this will help!!

I have had this off and on, on the left side of my neck/throat area. It started with what felt like a sore throat and then it left this dull pain that is aggravating none the less but worsens when I turn my head to the right. When I touch it, it sends this piercing pain up to like my jaw bone. It to me feels like a nerve or a vein that is inflamed. I dunno.... but I go to a Natural Herb Dr. and he said to him that it sounded like lymphatic congestion... which makes sense to me because I also have other swollen lymph areas. I started taking an herb called Echinacea it's like a natural antibiotic one of the best herbs ever!!! I am also taking a herbal remedy called Lymph Gland Cleanse. So look up Lymphatic Congestion to know better what it is and what causes it... Hope this has been helpful!!

I'm pretty big on trigger point therapy so I was thinking that it may be a trigger point. Trigger points are "lump" (they feel like lumps to the touch) which can cause discomfort or referral point with pressed on or "squeezed". With stress and tension, more trigger points tend to build up around your neck, shoulder, and jaw. I have TMJD so when I get my therapy and the trigger points are getting worked on my neck/throat area, I feel lots of referral pain to my jaw bone. You may want to call a massage therapist.

This has been freaking me out for the past month or so. I have been worrying that it was cancer or something. Sometimes when I eat, it feels like the food is in the back of my throat and it burns a lttle bit, I don't know if that is acid reflux or not.

I haven't been to the Dr because I don't have insurance for the next month.

For me, it really doesn't hurt unless I push on it, or flex my neck in a way to put pressure on it. The area is to the left of my throat and way back there. It is on the outside, so it doesn't hurt when I swallow or anything. It has been going on for a month or so but doesn't get worse or better.

could it possibly be... Lymph Node glands they run mucus and fluids down through your neck and body, basically drainage canals

I am 40 years old and have had the same problem, the only difference with me that I have noticed is that I sometimes cough up substance that resembles cottage cheese, yes I know, GROSE! But my doc said these are tonsil stones (still have my tonsils) and nothing to worry about. Not a good idea to get your tonsils out when your my age. But same symptoms, sore neck, localized deep pain. Hurts when I turn my head a certain way. When prescribed antibiotics the pain somewhat deminishes but then returns. So the only way to get rid of this annoying pain is to use a simple combination of oxygenating tablets and nasal sinus drops. Its suppose to effectively eliminate tonsil stones without unnecessary tonsil surgery. Also, the occasional use of an oxygenating spray will help to immediately neutralize the anaerobic sulfur-producing bacteria that causes the discomfort we are all feeling. So if you still have your tonsils, you may want to consider asking your doctor advice on this!

Count me in! I have the right sided pain....right next to the throat but its not the throat! It started after having most of my teeth pulled about 2-3yrs ago. It went away and would only come back periodically. When I became pregnant last year it came back and it never left. My obgyn figured it was sinuses......my Gp said sinuses.....the ENT had no idea......then my Gp said it was due to my Fibromyalgia.

All of these Drs have felt my neck and never found anything wrong. I went 2 days ago to get a bottom denture put in, they pulled 4 teeth and a few were directly above where the pain is.......when they were trimming the bone and pressing down on my jaw on that side that spot really hurt. I don't know if it has something to do with my first procedure when they took out a few of the bottoms to give me the partial....and it got worse because my last teeth went bad.

I have an anxiety disorder and this is making me nuts! Out of all these Drs that I have seen NONE of them were worried about this pain at all!

Like everyone else I want answers. I think I'm going to take advil like one of the previous posters and see if that helps. I cannot take them until I finish my pain medication for my teeth, but its on my to do list.

I will bring this pain up to my Dentist when I go in Monday (since he is the ONLY dr I haven't talked to about it) and see what he says. And I'll let you know what he thinks.

I am so glad I'm not the only one with these strange symptoms--I have worked myself into a panic attack today thinking I have throat cancer. My symptoms started about 6 months ago--I would get sharp pains sporatically in my neck. About two weeks ago, the area of my jaw on the left side (halfway between ear & chin) swelled & was PAINFUL! Lasted 2-3 days..my Mom is an ENT (ear-nose-throat) nurse & said it sounded like a blocked salivary duct.. Also had strange achy feeling in my neck..area surrounding my adam's apple..was worse when I would lean my head certain ways/forward. When I swallow, it feels like there is something "stuck" in my throat. I can't detect any lumps, but did have a swollen lump under my chin (pea-sized) a couple weeks ago--that has now gone away though. I went to a GI doctor & he didn't even look in my throat..didn't sound concerned about my neck symptoms..just wanted me to schedule an upper GI which is next Monday. I had an exam with an ENT dr. about a year ago & he put a scope up my nose/down my throat & didn't see anything except signs of acid-reflux (I had no symptoms). I do smoke/drink & am stopping as of today. I'm only 30 years old with two young kids & some of the signs do look like cancer from what research I have done...

I have an anxiety disorder and what I learned is NEVER research on the internet........everything you look into ALWAYS comes up with cancer! We look for information or something to make us feel better and bam it always comes up with the C word.

I have had to many Drs not really even care about my neck pain......Ive heard anxiety will cause this, fibromyalgia will cause this.......acid reflux...and the list goes on and on.

Try not to worry that much about Cancer.......it can be many things other than this :)
