Its seems that there are many possibilities. I have it right now and along with the pain by the throat/Adams apple I am having break out of lymphatic fluid in my hand. I get small nodes where the lymphatic fluid tries to break through the skin on my finger or palm of hand. I also have sinus problems. I believe it is all related. I think that lymphatic fluid gets backed up in places in your body and breaks out of the ducts. Another thing is I sleep on my arm at night. I think this may cause the lymphatic flow problems. Do any of you sleep on you side with your arm stretched above, with you head lying on your upper arm? I truly feel this has to do with blockages and draining of the lymph system. I do no however have a cure for it. Maybe I need to change my sleeping position and try some sort of message to force the lymph to flow.

i went to the doctor with the same thing and he said it was drainage in my throat.
so my thoughts are that it may be a sinus infection

I have had the exact same thing off an on for the past year or so now. Soreness seems like is in a specific spot deep in my neck in between my throat and the left neck muscle. I usually notice it after waking up from sleep and then it progresses by the end of the day to be really really bad. It's painful, hard to swallow sometimes and the pain goes up the left side of the jaw too...at first I thought it had something to do with my teeth. In the past it's gone away after a few days...it's happening right now, so i'm not sure when it will go away. Very annoying and I wish I knew what it was. i'm glad i'm not the only one - but wish I knew so I could figure out how to avoid it if possible.

Hi
I have had the same problem for 3 years now, ongoing and daily. The pain stems from a localised point which seems like its coming from the lower half of my right tonsil. It radiates to my right ear and nose and I get a sore neck, with swollen lymphs. I used to get chronic tonsilitis and my tonsils are quite damaged. Yet, no one prescribes me anything beyond stock standard amoxycillin, which does nothing. Some days I take pain killers, which for an hour or so alleviate the pain but it comes back. Some days are worse than others and I too find that when I am on antibiotics (haven't been for over a year) the pain almost disappears.
I have not had further tests done, partly because no one has suggested I should and also I don't want to find out anything terrible. I am quite terrified, yet I wonder how should it have been anything serious, how I have lived with it constantly for 3 years? It is however starting to really get to me, as I am now 27yo and anxiety engulfs me.
In the past I did suffer from acid reflux and I also for about 6 years have been a smoker, although now Im just a social smoker. I also drink a fair bit of wine, although I have started to find I have cut down on that too.
If anyone could please let me know how they have gone with their issues, please do! by the way 8 years is an amazing amount of time, I am wondering do you still suffer the same problem?
I am very keen to hear back from you all, please reply to me.

Hello all-
o my goodness I just in the middle of a panic attack and decided to look up and see if anyone else has this thing. You have all made me feel so much better. I have had this for about four years and sometimes if I laugh loudly or put my head down and cough it feels like something gets stuck there and if I swallow it pops out. I used to not try to pop it out because it scared me. I have a lot of tention in my life and i think they may be related but i dont know. I got two MRIs and I went to an ENT guy. Nothing. Stress. strained muscles. hmmm... ?

Hi,
I have the same problem deep in neck and sometimes rises to just under jaw. At times it is worse than others. I notice it most at night when i go to bed and become quite aware and anxious about it, which seems to lead me to be anxious about other worries too.
I have had this problem for almost a year now. I ignored it at first thinking i had pinched a nerve or somehow injured my neck. Then after a couple of months i saw my local doctor and she suspected my thyroid. My blood tests were fine though so i just ignored it for a while again. I then began wondering if it could be skin cancer so i got myself checked and there were no worrying spots. Then I went back to my doctor who sent me for an ultrasound of my thyroid despite my blood being ok. The results were that i did have tiny nodules. My doctor wasn't concerned about the nodules so she sent me to see an ears, nose and throat doctor instead.
He examined with a small camera inside my nose and throat and said there was nothing that he could see except some redness from reflux. I had been ignoring heartburn since the birth of my second child that perhaps i had accepted and gotten used to during pregnancy. I have never smoked and I only occasionally have a wine or two socially, but after asking about my diet suggested my problem could be coffee, tea and chocolate. So he prescribed Nexium, and I took it for a couple of months.
The problem seemed a little better, or at least the heartburn seemed to disappear. I then gave up tea, coffee and chocolate gradually and then took a break from the medicine. The heartburn hasn't come back but the neck at times was as bad as ever. I have since picked up a repeat of my medicine, but this time there is no improvement with my neck/ jaw.
The specialist said the next course of action if Nexium didn't work, would be to have a catscan (I think that's the right word). I will see my doctor today for that referral. In the mean time I also have finally had an appointment scheduled with a thyroid specialist (forgotten the right name) which i requested from another local doctor when my original doctor didn't refer me for follow up regarding the nodules.
Will post again in a few months if i get any answers.

My pain is deep in throat, on left side, with pain also under left ear, feels like it is congested. I have been to ENT three times, today he ordered a CT scan, will have it done in a week, he mentioned submandibular gland calcification, but the pain is down in throat on left side, not a sore throat. Also some pain in ear with congestion. I worry about the localized "spot" in throat, it has been hurting now for almost 3 months, antibiotics helped for a couple of days. My job requires me to look at a computer for 12 hour shifts, this all started about a week after starting this job. OTher muscles in the neck on left side have been aching and it feels like my whole neck tightens up, much stress.
Will let you all know what was discovered with results of scan.

Had the Ct scan, found a thryoid nodule, will go back to see if it is benign or malignant. Supposedly from research on internet, 90% of nodules are benign, I hope I am in that 90%.
If you have pain in middle of neck, have this checked.
