hi i was on large amounts of morphine and percocet for years and then suboxone for 8 months or so. after the first 2 weeks of acute withdrawls (what youre describing) you go into the next phase which is much less intense and can be combated effectively with 30 minutes of sweaty exercise a day but sadly lasts for 6 to 9 months they say. for me it lasted about 6 months. youre not in withdrawl but you just dont feel or sleep right.

I hesitate from telling people the same story but I'm glad you did.  I was on suboxone for 4 years and Klonopin for 15.  The first 3 months out were rough - every day.  On day 100 or so, things started to get better for me.  This is not meant to discourage or scare people. My post-acute withdrawal is undoubtedly severe compared to many of yours but it's worth mentioning because it was tough to not get frustrated.  Even if you're not feeling well and you think you SHOULD, just know that there's light at the end of the tunnel. You' won't feel like this forever. You're getting better every day - physically and mentally.  Stay the course.

jojo is right... i too was on subs 3yrs @ 16mg... i just tapered down pretty aggressively which i do not recommend; from 16-0 in just under a month. on day 25 of being clean, still feeling like a piece of sh*t.. like im dragging a freaking boat anchor around with me. here is my experience w/ stopping subs. not until you get down to 2mg or so does it start to become pretty uncomfortable. so take your time and dont rush i believe is the best option. unlike me but i had enough and just choose to man up and bite the bullet. wd didnt set in till day 2 - wasnt terible i guess day3 sh*t hit the fan couldnt not shaking no appitite and so on day4 -8 sick as a dog RLS, no sleep, anxiety, skin crawling, not fun day 9-15 slowly things get better hardly noticeable while going thur it, but it does get better looking back. day25 still feeling occasional anxiety (comes and goes) still pretty fatigue. over-all starting to like life again listening to music again reading alot more. but not out of the woods yet. like jojo and so may other have stated get ready to feel like sh*t for nearly 3months. you will get better and rebound just a matter of how bad you want it. again this is my experience and i was on for 3yrs straight and short taper and im sure my w/d were worse than they had to be but i was done being a slave to this pos med. (taking a subs to just feel normal again is not my idea of fun) i agree that this is not a long term drug, and should only be used for a month max(detox drug only not maintenance). in my own opinion the doctors dont understand or dont recognize how potent this drug actually is - 40-50x stronger than morphine and completely blocks your opiate receptors not allowing any other natural made hormones or full opiate for that matter to be received until id say 72 hours of no use because of half life is so long. so your bodys hormone production just completely shuts down. longer your on it the longer the w/d.

They put me on sub 6 years ago for pain management and I really got sick of it. You have to taper down to 1/2 mg for 2 or 3 months and then stop. It isn't easy. I came down with a dry cough that will not go away. I stopped oon October 11 so I still feel like sh///t. The headaches are the worst part. The doctor told me also that there is no w/d but he is full of c**p. For what I am going through I would like to sue the ocmpany for not educating the pain management doctors about the longg withdrawel.... Does anyone have a dry cough after stopping? I would like to know because it may have been masking something else that is going on......Thanks........

I was on subs for 4 years and didn't experience a dry cough. I've not heard of that as a symptom.

i too quit around same time.. going through the same b.s. as you it sounds... slowly getting better, but ya i feel you about the drug companies and drs. cough is normal maybe. this stuff drys out your body pretty bad, then once you quit it starts flushing (running nose, sneezes, cough specially if you smoke) but hard to tell cuz this screws up your whole body. if it gets worst in a week or so go see someone. immune system compromise is a major issue with all opiates even subs. can always try musinex. i got a little cough too nothing major. mine if probably related to smoking cuz sub made me smoke like a fend

Hey good post. I'm researching how to best get off sub and it seems that your one of the only ones I could find that was a little positive. I know its not easy but I do think preparing myself for what's coming might help me complete my goal. How are you now??? How long did you make it clean??? Relapse??
