Sudden Loss of Vision In One Eye

Something happened to me and I am terrified! Today I lost vision in my left eye, without any warning sign. I have never suffered of eye pain or something like this, and I cannot believe this happened to me. I live alone and there is nobody I could ask to help me and say what is wrong. Should I run to the doctor, is there any reasonable cause for this condition?

I had the same experience. Sudden loss of sight in one eye. No head ache, no pressure in my head.. nothing before it happened. I went to my eye doctor who reassured me it was ok. What I had experienced was an inter ocular migraine. The head ache comes after the sight is returned. Only had it happen 2 times. Also had bright, almost metal liking flakes fly very quickly in front of me. This too it's part of c the inter ocular migraine. The headaches afterward aren't very nice but they never last long.
My husband just Saturday had the same exact thing happen. He's in the hospital now. I was wondering how you were doing after a year?
this happened to me(9/17/2014) I went to E.R, and they found a dissected carotid artery sent a blood clot to my eye (ocular stroke) but I am a stroke survivor (11-12-2005) so I go get checked when something unusual occurs in my head. just to be safe. they also found another clot that was ready to break off so it was dissolved. thankfully because I went, I have no permanent damage (unlike my first stroke) at the very least you should inform your primary doctor and he/she will give their advice.be well.
Hello im a 41 year old woman I had to take a dmv eye test was told I BARLEY passed with my right eye I have BEEN noticing driving at night that my right eye is very blurred have lots of floaters in eye but had a exam about 4 mo ago and new glasses no problem but should I be worried
My friend had some rare form of eye cancer. She had to have her eye removed and has a glass eye in its place. She's a writer, DJ, movie maker, and a lot more. She told me that it was weird at first, but she got used to it. She does not have peripheral vision to her left. Her right eye has compensated, has 20/20 vision, and is very unlikely to worsen. She has actually found ways to make a joke of it and pick on all of the two-eyed people. I know it may be hard, especially when you're down and everyone else is positive, but life will go on. My friend adjusted after having cancer and an eye removed. Just be glad your life was not threatened by this, and try to make the best of it, as hard as it may be.
Here is some good news from a person who lost all sight in her left eye two years ago. I didn't take it lying down. I was determined to have it not affect my life, and that includes my writing life. I am a playwright. I say with truth that is nothing I can not do that I didn't do before my eye loss. Save for not being able to see something on my left side when I stare straight ahead. I drive, bike, swim, exercise, and do not deprive myself of any experience that I had with full vision. Some would say I'd lose my 3d vision. Not so! About once a week I got to stereograms and practice seeing hidden images. (I see them as well as my spouse who is binocular.) Sometimes one eye vision is a little inconvenient (I have to be very careful going down stairs that I don't miss the last step) but other than that, I have no problem going places like concerts, plays, gallery openings, football games (Yeah, Seahawks!), than I did before. And the other eye will adjust, and in some cases, you might even seen better! Since your one eye is going to do the work of two. Good luck, and try different things, and don't listen to the doom/gloom types; you'll be amazed at how little your life has changed! And believe me, you'll get out of the 'dark hole' and see the sun. (When it first happened to be, I felt that I was being buried alive. I also thought I would never be happy again. I was wrong on both counts. :) P.S. It took a little less than two years, but I finished the play that I started to write before my eye loss.
Hey, I am curious if this has happened more times for you. It happens to me sometimes (started about 13 years ago). It can happen be 1 time in 6 months or 2-3 times in 1 month. I get no warning signs, but suddenly a darkness starts to begin in 1 eye and slowly works it way over the entire eye. I can still see light and dark, but it is total blackness. It usually starts to get better after about 1 minute. I don't get worried any more, but it used to freak me out. The worst is when I am driving. I just shut that one eye and drive straight until it gets better. I went to a docter when it happened the first time, and he though it might be related to migranes. I don't really get migranes, at least not the ones last last more than an hour or so. I haven't been back to the doctor concerning this since the first time.
Did you ever get your vision back?
I experienced "sudden vision loss of my Right eye on Aug 7, 2015. Riding in truck and thought light was flashing on the upper right side of the clouds. within seconds I realized my right eye central vision was dark gray with black and white lightning like bolts filling the rest of the eye. Since it was late afternoon I opted to see if the sight would return by morning. No! Went to the Opthomoligist who did photos in my eye, including injecting dye in my arm and photographing as the dye ran thru my eye. That day the photos showed a very cloudy "Vitrious" (which is the gel filling the eyeball). The cloudiness of the vitrious in the photos was so much you could not distinguish the "Macula". Dr. said the problem was that the Vitreous had "pulled away" from the Macula and presumably/hopefully vision would return as the cloudiness settled. The "lightning bolts effect" has slowly disappeared but the central vision (except for a "tiny pinhole in the very center" is still dark gray. I returned to Dr. on 28 Aug, went thru the same series of photos and dye injection (the dye makes you sick to stomach for a few min each time) Dr. ultimately NOW says I had a "Retinal Artery Occlusion" which has cleared but destroyed a portion of my vision. I then went to the head of that Clinic (well known and everyone said he was great) for a second opinion. He did no tests but concurred with the diagnosis. It is now end of Nov. and I my vision still like a thick smudge over "whatever I Focus on." I hope to have it checked out one more time now that I am home but I am afraid this is permanent.
Hi I had the same today, and Iam terrified can I know what Drs said to you?
One year ago today I'm just seeing this and I'm you at this very moment. You with every word said. I have lost vision in my left eye as well without warning just like that out of nowhere, very bad migraines then this happen and it's been about 5 days now. I'm not myself at all and I'm not taking this well....not able to be me or do the things that I do or planned to do because nothing will be the same for me. I just turned 21 february 1st and I'm an artist as well. Not to mention a college student and model too. Who knows where this could lead starting with one eye, I'm scared and I have no idea how to deal with this. I really don't Understand.......losing my mind.
Not sure when you post this. But hope you can see
I was poisoned and loss vision from time to time. I think the pressure causes the eye to swell, in turn puts pressure on the optic nerve creating temporary blindness. Cool rags help relieve the pressure over time.
I know this is over a year late, but I also suffered from this and saw a specialist within 24 hrs. He gave me high doses of prednisone and prednisone drops for my eye. I regained partial vision after a couple of weeks. The vision will never be 100% but I can see out of the eye. I cannot read out of that eye due to blotches but overall considering how bad it was I am pleased and that was 16 yrs ago. Good luck
My grandad had that, except he has cataracts...please check professionally if it is?
