I had surgery a week ago. They removed a extra large thrombosed internal and external hemorrhoid and then lanced 3 external ones. The only thing I could even come close to comparing the pain to was walking through hades in gasoline panties and that doesn't even do it justice. The best advice I can give anyone is Sitz baths! This little tiny plastic tub that fits on your toilet filled with the hottest water that your bottom can stand has been my saving grace. This surgery has definitely made me do things so vile and disgusting that I never in my wildest dreams could have even imagined doing before this surgery. I mean how many of us before this surgery even thought for one minute we'd be discussing our sphincters, bm's, or any other part of this experience with complete strangers or in the middle of the night googling anus pain remedies or any of the other vile things we have done?
Now, having a bm in the sitz bath then dumping it cleaning it sitting back down in the amazingly soothing hot water to soak then climbing into a hot bath to soak and wash has been my life saver. I couldn't have made it without the sitz bath. It eases the pain a tiny bit. It also will help with cleaning. Lidocaine cream used in abundance has also been amazing. I was prescribed pain medication and they did help with sleeping the first 5 days but did nothing to ease the pain down there. Please make sure you have your Dr call you in numbing cream and the strongest they can compound. This will make it so much easier. My surgeon made sure that I stayed in bed the first week and off my feet as much as possible and that was the key to the swelling and healing also. Hot baths and soaking and then to bed on my side with a ice pack. I have lost a few stitches but my bleeding these last few days have been minimal and I also have just started introducing solids. I stayed strictly on a liquid diet for almost 5 days but had jello, pudding, I did add toast and drank protein shakes and took vitamins because I did not want to risk any issues. It worked for me. I am now doing softer foods like mashed potatoes and toast and jello with fruit and granola but have not added meat yet because it is harder to digest. I will slowly add that in the next few days. For me I have done things very slowly but it has seemed to worked well and my swelling is very minimal and everything seems to be going amazingly. I actually had somewhere in the range of 15- 18 stitches total internal and external so my surgery was pretty major and they also cautorized (sp?) Quite a bit also. What I've done may not work for anyone else but just thought I'd share my experience in hopes that it may help someone else because I can honestly say this has got to be the most inhumane surgery I've ever experienced. I hope you all recoup swimmingly.

On January 13, 2017 I had a hemorrhoidectomy. Here it is going on January 21st & I still can't leave the house. Though I have to say that January 17th was honestly the worst day of my life. That was the 1st day I had a BM, and all I can say is thank God for my husband! He has been a total lifesaver & HUGE support system. I don't think I had ever screamed so loud in my life. He was trying to muffle my screams (we live in a close knit trailer park) and he was crying almost as bad as I was. After that he gave me a minute to stop shaking & to wait for the nauseous feeling to pass, then he cleaned me up. Later that evening for my 3rd BM I was in bed (thankfully on a towel) I had a coughing fit & made a mess all over me & the towel. I was yelling for him so loud, I was in our bedroom & he was in the spare bedroom with both doors closed, that I was waiting for the neighbor to call & tell him to check & see what his wife wants LOL finally I just bit the bullet & rolled over in the mess to grab my phone & intercom him. He came in & cleaned me & the mess up like it was a normal everyday thing.
Since then I have been having accidents. I'm having trouble immediately telling when I have to go & 8 days later I'm still having burning when I go. Plus I'm having like 5 or more BMs a day. Is this normal? With each one it burns more & more until the next day when it starts all over again. As I said I haven't been able to leave the house because I never know when I'm going to have to go. At this point my follow up is on Feb 2 & I feel like I won't be able to leave the house prior to that. I'm really getting frustrated, and the pain is exhausting.
I'm open to any suggestions!

"THIS TOO SHALL PASS" is what I keep saying to myself. This is the worst surgery EVER. Physicians say it is a tough surgery but if to absolutely necessary why do they do it? I had hemorrhoids. I have had these since I had my children. Calling your doctor gets (from the nurse) - "give it time." " I know it has been a long time (7 wks) but just calm down and rest a lot." When I saw the doctor a couple of weeks back she said that in a couple of weeks I would be back to normal. Wrong. There is nothing normal about the way i feel. i am contemplating getting another opinion. In the meantime, have any of you been given anything for the swelling other than the word "time."
I was thinking the same thing. What was your outcome?
Hi I am 14 days post op, thrombosed roid surgery, please somebody tell me life gets easier? I had to have a blood transfusion post surgery and 2 lots of antibiotics, the pain after a bm is horrific and starts to build and then doesn't end until late evening, I have never in my life experienced such pain. So fed up xx
Had it done 10 days ago 3 removed the largest the surgeon had ever seen
Operation was ok.
Passing stools hurt and recommend bathing/washing after.
Don't wait for pain take mess to combat it.
I never at first never again.
Still swollen after 10 days but to be expected.
Gets better by the day

Been 4 weeks since surgery.
All was going fine until 3 days ago. Im now going 4/5 times a day to the bathroom out of the sudden and that seemed to cause massive swelling again down there. Since the operation I always had a urge to go take a c**p all the time, first week I ended up going 3 times a day but I guess that was normal since it was recent. From 2nd to 4th I was going one time a day, I consider that normal but now I'm going so many times I'm beginning to become worried. Maybe it was the peanut butter/oaks I start eating from the 4th week. However I stop like 2 days ago and still go 3/4 times a day to the bathroom. Still have blood/drainage too.
Also I think the stitches haven't come out yet, I feel them like a needle pocking my anus.

3 months after hemorrhoid surgery still in pain and later I found out that I developed anal abscess it's pus cells around anus so so painful so go and check with your GP again and please avoid any fiber to have normal stool fiber is the cause of constipation!
I have the same pain I'm a T12 L1 paraplegic and I am miserable I have no cure yet but I'm working with essential oils.mikey
I know you had this done over a year ago how long did it take for your swelling to go down. I just had my hemorrhoidectomy six weeks ago and I think I have those accessory hemorrhoids it's very depressing
This was so encouraging, thank you. Im 6 days post op, i am soaking in the salt water bath. I feel like its never gonna end, i have never experienced such pain, even after 3 normal births with 1st degree tearing, this pain is horrible. But your encouragement helped me right now.
Hi Lauri, i feel your pain i had my op 6 days ago, yesterday i was vomiting and as i was vomiting standing over the toilet with one cought it all just streamed out at the back, i almost passed out. Today i feel totally better. I spoke to a cousin she recommended the sitz baths with salt, this morning it even looked better. Make sure you eat before drinking pain killers, to avoid nausia, drink pain killers at least every 4 hrs, i noticed it works before the pain starts. I thought im the only one going through this, strongs. I am feo South Africa, my name is Anneline. Stay strong.
Heading for the 7th week of recovery.
Since 3 days ago, the swelling and ass spasms seem to have decreased noticeably. I can sit now more easily. My bm's have also returned to once/two times a day (ideal was to just be one) instead of 4/5, but theres still a bit leakage after each one. If not for the bm's, I wouldn't had any drainage.
I'm not exercising and I probably would, go for a walk for example, but this urge to go to the toilet constantly is annoying so I don't. The urge also seemed to have decreased lately, I hope its a good sign.
Anyone recovering just hand in there. The first week was unforgiving and only after 6 days I was able to tolerate the pain. Each week you will get better, but this is a long recovery.

I recently had surgery last Wednesday night and can honestly say I wish I'd never had it done. I'm no whimp but the pain is terrible, and as for a BM it's like someone as pushed a red hot poker up my bum. I'm having to take lactalose just so I can go so I haven't had what I call a normal BM yet. I know it's still early days but I'm panicking that I'll have to take laxatives for the rest of my life as I can't strain cause of the pain it causes and frightened I might make matters worse.

Your vivid account of the procedure has helped in my decision to pass on having the surgery. I have pretty extremely thrombosed hemmorrhoids but I think I'll just live with the issue.
