Really -___- HIV? who says that?
Seriously??? Pregnancy and HIV are the suggested diagnoses based on symptoms of sore throat, fever and chills. BRILLIANT! Way to scare people. And pregnancy is the most ridiculous reason I've ever heard of for a sore throat.
I'd say strep throat. I've had it and it was accompanied by vomiting, fever, chills and a very sore throat. Good luck to you!

Hey idiots, the dude that said HIV said its impossible to tell, and they could be many other diseases also
Seriously? You couldn't wait 2 hours so instead you seek medical advice from the Internet? You are not too bright are you.
Hmm sounds to me like your pregnant, have full blown AIDs, and every known and unknown cancer and only 2 hours left to live. good thing you didnt waste them at that clinic
The difference between a normal sore throat and strep is what causes it. Strep is caused by a bacterial infection in your throat with the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes. This is about 10% of all sore throats and can be treated with antibiotics. But "normal" sore throats are viral. If it is strep it should be treated right away because untreated strep can cause secondary infections. Like ear infections, pneumonia, scarlet fever, and even things like rheumatic heart disease, glomerulonephritis (in the kidneys), arthritis and even meningitis. The easiest way to see if its strep is if you have little white dots on the back of your throat or tonsils. Theses are filled with puss and is a common symptom of strep but isn't always visible. Best thing to do is just go to the doctor, get your throat swabbed and tested.
It sounds like some sort of virus. Most people will feel lousy for several days or up to 2 weeks and then get better just with their own immune system. Drink lots of WATER and fluids, especially herbal tea, green tea and warm broth, get lots of rest, keep warm, and gargle with salt water. There is no reason to take antibiotics if it is a virus. If you seem to get worse or notice signs of infection then you may want to see the doctor, they will advise you if antibiotics or some other medicine is the right course of action.
Geez people, don't bash someone for giving their valid opinion. If you look up HIV, it could possibly be that. Especially given that person's age, and what many people do at that age. Even if she is not sexually active, there are other ways to become infected. Like if she works around blood. The person just said for her to get tested. It's not like it would hurt her to get tested. I'm doubtful that it is HIV, though, because it sounds like strep throat to me, and that is a common problem, anytime of the year. Go to the doctor. It's probably nothing serious, but you might need antibiotics.
hey who said a swollen gland be an HIV o.O, well i was looking for my symptoms and i was shocked to see HIV :-| anyways my symptoms were swollen lymph node just underneath left ear, it started hurting really bad so i ended up going to ER , and they gave me a steroid shot via IV and two codeine tablets and sent me home, its wasnt even half an hour that i woke up at 2:30am with terrible abdominal ache mostly upper right part. i almost collapsed with pain, my family called ambulance and i was transported at 3 at hosp. again, they did an US and the doc. said strange it shouldnt happen, your blood and US both are normal, and left for prep discharge, when the nurse arrived i read the report thanks to medical terminology class i read "HEPATOMEGALY" and bd dilated and i refused to sign discharge and asked the doctor again why it shows hepatomegaly that is enlarged liver and bile duct dilation and he started appologizing that it is from codeine tablets that i gave you , you can follow up with your doc. those 3 horrible liver attacks/contractions were over and i then visited my PCP on sat. with the concerns and she said you have strep infection not a viral, so i was on anti biotics, but that never worked either so i returned again on mon. with terribly high fever 104- 105F and worse condition, swollen tonsils, vomiting, fever, chills, sweats, fast heart beat, dizziness, wt loss, and it is wed the condition never got better, i feel miserable, i have lost 10 pounds in almost 5 days :'( please guide how to get rid of this, i cant keep food in my tummy and cant eat either becoz of swollen left gland :-|
I've had multiple reoccurances of strep throat in the last few years. I figured I'd outgrown it but I've actually had these exact symptoms plus more in the last night alone. I'm not giving you exact answers here, but it sounds to me like strep. Get a strep test. The easiest thing to do here is visit your physician.

Well it could just be a fever with a sore throat. If it is strep throat, you may also have white dots at the back of your mouth at the top. You may also have pain while swallowing.

Can you explain to me what the difference is between strep throat and a normal sore throat? I'd really like to learn because that would be helpful. Thanks!
the guy who said this is HIV is retarded.

okay so the person who just automatically says its HIV is an id**t!! It could be many other things, strep throat, mono, pharyingitis, anything, I have one right now also and to just outright tell some one its HIV--keep your opinion to yourself. Get the facts and that is what I did and Go to the Doctor-like I did--I hate being this sick also but I feel just like you do. I hope you feel better soon and gargle with salt water even though its nasty it does help.
