Hi,
I'm 27 yr old male... I spend a lot of time in cold conditions and in front of a computer with my work.
I also have these swollen knuckles mainly on my right hand.... no stiffness just swollen and tender knuckles.
I believe (in my case anyway) it's a circulation problem caused by a diet high in acid (wheat, coffee etc).
Highly rec the book ph miracle for more on this or Living health audio seminar by Tony Robbins.
Will try it myself for cure.

I have this too. It is alot like mosquito bites on my knuckles but they hurt and itch and my knuckles are sore. I was diagnosed with Cutaneous lupus 2 years ago, but now another dermatologist says I dont have lupus but she doesnt know what it is. I have joint pain and fatigue with this as well
Symptoms of finger tendonitis include pain while bending, swelling, and the inability to bend one or more of your joints. If you think you have tendonitis in a finger, you can treat it several ways. Beginning treatment for finger tendonitis begins with icing the area. Then, avoid making content with the finger – elevate it. Splint the affected finger or thumb in an extended position for 10-14 days. This should take care of the finger and cure it.
Sounds like a fairly common problem. I too have sore knuckles (actually just one) - the index finger on my left hand. It only seems to be sore in the winter and the cold mornings are the worst. I'm a little worried that it could be early signs of arthritis as I had a habit of cracking my knuckles when I was younger. The most worrying thing though is that I'm only 24 %-)
Wow, nice to know many people have the same problem as I do. I too have had the doctors head scratch with this problem but I have heard that it may be a hormonal thing. Changes in birth control, menopause, puberty... anything related to a hormone change really. My mom had the same thing when she went through menopause, I changed birth control and have that problem as well so it seems to fall into that category. Again, this is just a possibility and not proven.
How amazing that we all have this. My concern was exactly like everyone elses. One finger on my left hand. Then the second finger. Not sure you have given me the answer but lots of things to consider - like diet, toxins, chillblains (had those on my feet at one stage - very very painful!).
I have the same problem to i am 14 years old i hurts so bad i dont know what to do they are always purple and swollen can someone please find out what is wrong with me!!!! :'(
I was waking up with swollen and sore hands and my feet would swell throughout the day and get very sore. My other symptoms were irritability and occasional heart palpitations. It turned out that my thyroid was hyperactive due to Graves' disease (named after a Dr. Graves who first described the disease--scary name, though). I didn't connect the symptoms at all until my doctor told me that they were all due to my high thyroid levels. I hadn't lost lots of weight, which was the symptom I had always heard of being connected with hyperactive thyroid. It's a quick blood test and worth checking with your doctor.
Ranayds disease causes finger's to turn white and then purple when the warm up often feeling tight or stretched. However That may not be the case for all of you, Swollen knuckles can be related to weather, to bone durability (e.g Arthiritis or osteoporosis) poor circulation- this is often the main cause. And finally it can be a syptom of various auto immune diseases, but very rarely. Its more likely to be strenuous activity or weather, keep your fingies wrapped up and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise if your really worried contact a dr and ask for a lupus test (As most auto immune diseases can be traced from a simple lupus blood test) Hope this helps.
Mr. did not feel like making an account. Yes I have the same problem myself. I woke up one morning last week and my ring finger on my right hand was really swollen hurt a tad and felt really stiff I was stating that if it did not reside within a week id go get it checked out. The next week it did go away but then a day or two later my middle finger on my right hand decided to do it as well and then a day or two after it both of my pinki fingers on my right and left hand are having the same problems. I thought to myself gout as well or something of that nature due to I work for a Podiatrist and I know what gout is and what causes it. Gout is caused by eating a lot of red meat and drinking a lot of aolcholic beverages when the kidneys cant filter out certain things that goes into our bodies the aolchol always wins and gets filterd out first then the gout as you call it does not. Its found in the feet pretty often. I made an appointment myself for this tuesday and I'm wondering what it is myself. I'm going to have the Dr. I work for look at it Monday morning. He has been out of town for several days.

Hi.
I'm 27 years old and am starting to experience some knuckle pain. my right hand pinky finger would be the most affeced i have been to a few different doctors and no one can tell me whats wrong. my knuckles would go purple and get very sore when knocked. would like to know if any one with the same symptoms have been able to get any answers.
Wow, I think this is pretty crazy... My left hand pinky has been bothering me for quite some time now. It's very stiff and some days I just want to cut it off because it annoys me soo much. I feel if I stretch it out and crack the knuckle it feels better for a little while. I'm afraid to put a splint on it because I feel that if I do that, I dont know if it will bend again. It's very painfull to stretch it out but once I do that, I am able to tolerate the pain. I also think the funny thing is, that we are all pretty much around the same age. I'm 31 and it seems the average age of the people with this problem are late 20's early 30's. There has to be an explanation some where!!!!
Hi Everyone,
I had the same problem many years ago and 2 years ago I was diagnosed with SLE lupus. Lupus is a tricky disease that when displaying early symptoms you probably won't test positive. My Reumatoligist says that it can take years for the disease to reveal itself. Other symptoms I had were periods of extreme weight loss, especially after a stressfull event, strange rashes, aches and pains throughout the body and extreme fatigue. Sores in the nose and mouth, short term memory, low grade temp, and in the latter stage recurrent strep throat. For years every doctor tested me for Rheumatoid arthritis but it always came back negative. I feel it is worth while having a ANA test, this tests for Auto immune diseases. Mine was quite low initially and the GP did't take it seriously. A reading of 80 use to be a positive and now they pushed it up to 180, which was what I was. I am now at 360. Some people get to 1200!
It is not a death sentence but it is worth investigating because you get in early enough you can protect what you have!!!
I hope this helps

Similar problem - 44 year old woman. Centered in fingers of right hand...started last winter and began to recur this fall. Sometimes burning pain in pads of fingers, sometimes around nail beds, sometimes in 1st and 2nd finger joints that crack when bending when flared up, sometimes even in wrist. Sometimes pain in pectoral area under arm, sometimes in shoulder blade. Always neck pain when leaning head in any direction. Have to be careful of how I sleep. Had problem with right arm numbness when sleeping. Now sometimes left arm goes numb too. Finger pain usually index (which developed raynauds last winter after the first episode of this unexplained phenomenon...my finger was so swollen that circulation was obstructed for too long), pinky and thumb but occasionally other two fingers involved as well.
Sometimes it feels infectious and sometimes it feels arthritic. I've explored the possibility of a combination of factors....thoracic outlet syndrome causing poor circulation, leaving me susceptible to a deep tissue infection of some sort. My physical therapist friend tells me I have the loosest shoulder joints she's every encountered.
I've considered environment...my job is a very physically active outdoor job in the summer through early fall and turns into a desk job in late fall through spring. I had no problems (aside from a lot of skin reactions to mild poison ivy exposure - still have a recurrent itchy patch on back near waistline) during the summer/fall until I was back in the office. Flare ups happen more often and get worse when I spend more time in the office.
The whole thing started last winter soon after we got a new furnace and ductwork at home. Two nights later I awoke with vertigo for the first time ever. Shortly thereafter my cat had an anyurism and dog's heart gave out the next day (both old...assuming coincidence but...) My workplace was remodeled and got new furnace and ductwork about six years ago...everyone who came into the office during this period was sick (respiratory) for a while. The same year I traveled in the Dakotas and had a run-in with a field full of wood ticks. By the end of the day something (?) had gotten hold left a welt under my bra strap on my back. Wood ticks aren't supposed to carry lyme disease, right? A week or two later I was sicker (feverish/chest/nasal/body aches) than I had ever been....I've had constant sinus drainage ever since.
To combat myriad symptoms I have gone through periods of eating no dairy, no wheat, no sugar and I exercise regularly...weights and cardio at least 3 days/week. For past two weeks I was feeling good. Over the holidays I've not kept the restrictive diet but was off from work for a week and continued to exercise and had no symptoms. After the new year it started coming back....first with severe back pain upon waking, the next morning back was fine but arms were numb and today at work fingers burning and swollen.
I'm a scientist and understand logically that to figure out what triggers this I should eliminate one thing at a time, but I'm also in pain so I'm more inclined to remove everything at once and hope for the best. I try not to take NSAIDs unless it's pretty severe as I have been taking heavy doses of them once/mo for years due to extremely painful menstrual cramps (fibroids) and I've wondered what effect these may have had over the long-term. To top it off the periods have also made me anemic....another contributing factor to poor circulation/poor oxygenation? Also life-long low blood pressure. I used to smoke...never heavily but for many years...and still have one or two once in a while after a couple of drinks.
I'm posting this in the interest of epidemiology. I believe that everything has a cause. Maybe it's Lupus, MS, psoriatic arthritis, ra, sleroderma....but my question is, what causes these things? Lyme disease? Environmental factors...chemicals, allergens? All of this coupled with right body chemistry? What does everyone have in common and how can it help?

I've been suffering with mercury poisoning for so many years with 32 symptoms and just figured out it's my 20 amalgams and extra 8 shots I had to have due to my negative blood type when having my children years ago. I am finally having the fillings removed now and I am very frustrated with how many years of needless suffering on so many counts. I researched for about 2 years before I finally figured it out. I have been through major amounts of blood tests, rheumatology issues and noone ever mentioned this. Please be patient all you sufferers. It's time to speak out on this!
