I was in the medical business selling medical supplies years ago and there were people going around selling Synvisc who we suspected were selling bootleg or black-market products. They were trying to get medical supply companies to sell it to local doctors they knew and were offering very low prices. We did not trust them so maybe something like that is still going on and these reactions due to illegal and phony Synvisc? I just had my knee injected two days ago with a large amount of Synvisc 1 30 cc's and it was very pain full due to being injected on the side of the knee without an anesthetic injection first and not under the top of the patella which is the preferred method. The injection was also done without removing some synovial fluid from the knee first to make room for the Synvisc which is also in the preferred way of injection. Next time I will ask for that. I strongly suggest anyone getting an injection should go to an orthopedic office of a large reputable hospital group like Mayo, Cleveland Clinic or similar and not small independent physician offices to be sure you are getting fresh quality Synvisc.

I received a gel injection in left on Feb 16, 5 days later my knee starting hurting more than it had hurt before. I finally called my dr office, they called an left a message to ice and elevate, take over the counter meds. I can't believe the pain. I can limp around, without straightening leg but if I put weight on it, the pain shoots through it. It feels like meat is being torn from the bone!
