I have these problems of having little stabbing feeling and itching except I can scratch it without it hurting. But it doesn't stop. And I see no rash it just itches.

i have the same problem and when i asked about it. they said that it could be from the person before me was using a "tinkling lotion" and it is really hard to get off the beds because it is meant to stay on your body longer. but they told me that just when i come in there to ask for a bed that the person before me didnt use that lotion. most places can keep trace of what lotions people are using because of buying them there at the tanning salon.

I only go to a tanning bed maybe 5-6 times total every spring to get a base tan ( I tan easily), been doing this for a few years now, with no problems. I went a little over a week ago for my 1st and came home, showered etc, then I look at my shins and they're all blotchy like rash but no itch. All I remember was it was sooo hot in that bed and fan didn't seem to be working but this is the 1st time I've encountered any problems. Wierd , I wonder if they're putting something new in the tanning creams they sell. My body has tanned up nicely after that 1 time but legs are still blotchy..I don't even feel like wearing shorts after that...

I agree, it may not be any disinfectant because I used the stand up booth too and have a horrible rash all over my back for 4 days now.

Using "outdoor" products indoors will dry out the acrylic on the tanning beds and they will become brittle. A BIG "NO" in the indoor tanning industry.

I've been tanning for several years and have had this rash a few times..always on my upper back.  I've always just assumed it was a heat rash.  I looked up a few different things tonight and that's what I'm thinking it is.  I worked at a tanning salon and we had several customers ask to have the bed with water before they used it due to being allergic to the cleaning solution but they would break out everywhere there body touched the tanning bed..not just in one certain area.

Its true I use to get the rash all over my body my doctor tokd me it was fromvthe cleaners so everytime I would use a damp cloth to wipe the bed down it helped ALOT I took a break from tanning for a few years just recently started again and now im getting it everywhere on my hands wrists feet ankles. Not sure what the cause is but it could be from old light bulbs or sensitive skin if its happening to you also my advice is to take a break from it for a while try not using lotion and if need be use stand up thanks for reading

I decided to look this up because I also have this rash. I read that its the actual tanning...it can be from the cleaners but that's easily ruled out by cleaning the bed yourself with something you know you don't react to. All of you that think it could be your lotion, that is also easy to rule out by switching to a different brand. If after switching you get the rash again than its mostly that your skin is sensitive to UV rays. It only appears to be the lotion because when you lotion, your skin actually receives 70% more of the UV! I don't know if there is a medical test for UV sensitivity but if you are fair skinned you are more likely to have it. Also check every medication you take. Some can cause sensitivity even in people with dark skin or even a person who already been tanning prior to taking the medication. Its easy to look up and get a list of medications that can do this.
The only real trick is to stay cool while you tan and use benedryl. You can also use lotions to help with the itching. I'm going to my doctor to make sure its not something to worry about only because I have it everywhere on my body.if I hear of anything else useful I will post again.

I tan at SunTan City and the same things has been happening to me but only on my chest and stomach. I talked to one of the women at the front desk and showed her a bump near the top of my chest. At first I thought I was allergic to the bed cleaner, so they used something different. It didn't help. Come to find out, it's overexposure. She said to wait two days in between tanning and that should help. She also said that once it stops I can continue to lay everyday like I have.

Im having this right now!

I havent been tanning in about 3 months. went back for the first time 4 days ago (monday) by tuesday morning i woke up itchy and had to come home from work as it was unbearable! I had been regularly for 4 months prior to a break and never had this. The only thing that changed was that i changed beds to this UVA bed or something like that, apparently it doesnt burn you, just bronzes you (as i was told). So I went back on the wednesday, 7 minutes in the old bed i used to use and now, thursday, itchy!!!! I thought it was the bed but I went back to the salon and the guy there argued with me saying it is impossible it has anything to do with the bed. I tan really well but am pale through winter (as most people are) and grew up in australia and this is the first time anything like this has EVER happened to me.

Oatmeal baths are helping me loads. But i paid $140 for this months pass in this amazing "non harmful bed". Not sure what i should do.

Also try Glaxal Gel and aloe. should help soothe but re-apply all the time. whenever it starts itching.

The only place I get the rash is on my butt cheeks! its on the upper part of my butt and its only two dots.. it does go away after about 24 hours. But ive noticed that every time I go back in the tanning bed it comes back..so i started covering my butt and the rash went away. There are still two dots on my butt now and it looks like it scarred. Looks like ill just have to deal with a white butt!

Everybody seems to be saying pretty much the same thing with this "prickly", stinging, itching (uncontrollably) burning sensation after laying in a tanning bed. I have seen two things out of all the "remedies" that make perfect sense to me. My daughter and I both have this problem. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!!!!!! I read one reply that made me do a face-palm. Lol. Drink PLENTY of water (which me & my daughter are guilty of not doing anyway) before you go to lay in the tanning bed, and afterwards take a shower with something like Aveeno body wash, that has no perfumes or dyes. Makes perfect sense. Haven't tried it yet, as I just read it, but we WILL be trying it, because I had it a couple of summers ago and I was MISERABLE!! Hope this helps!

I tanned for the first time about 6 weeks ago in a high-pressure bed.  I had four sessions.  This week, I developed a very itchy rash that has spread to only those areas that saw the light of the tanning bed.  Keep in mind, it's 6 weeks later!  I am now on a steroid regiment for the next few days.  Considering the time factor, I wouldn't have blamed it on the bed lights.....but considering how it completely follows the areas that were tanned, what else could I blame it on?  Never again!
