I've noticed my outbreaks are greatly influenced by stress....I have tried tea tree oil which does seem to stop the progression but does not eliminate recurrence.

I have had this problem for years and only on my left hand, it also targets my under nail and i then get deep cracks (hacks) at the corner of my nails which are extremely painful. My local pharmacy recommended,( Foot Care Cream) Swedish formula. This is not a cure but it keeps it under control.

My wife had the same problem for years. She would get little white blisters (but they were dry) Then the skin on her fingers would peel this would happen over and over again. She was embaressed to let people see her hands. She tried every cream and lotion with no luck. This is what she tried and her hands are no longer peeling. Note I am not a Dr and I am not recommending you use this. I am telling you what worked for her as she battled this for 9 years. She has Silver Sulfadiazine cream that was used for bad sun burn. Before bed she would coat her fingers with it and wrapped them with gauze and leave it on over nite. She did this for about 5 nights. Then she would use hand lotion. She noticed a improvment after about the third nite. Now her hand are back to normal with no blisters or peeling. If you try this and it works please pass it on as it seems there are many people with this problem. Good Luck

I'm dealing with the EXACT same thing right now. Did you find out anything about it?

I am so thankful to have found this thread. My 9 yr old son has had this same thing. First white like air pockets with no fluid then chunks of skin come off. All his finger tips and thumbs just to the first joint. No pain, no itching, no fever, no swollen glands, no change in any solutions or cleaning agents at home or school. Took him to the dr. They say it's normal. It's been 4 weeks and it still goes on. I think they are full of it. Lol I did some research and found we could be low in omega 3 and 6. We have stared eating flax seed and walnuts (both higher in omegas then fish oil). It's been a week but no change. Water makes it much worse. It doesn't seem to be a "dry" thing. Even the skin that comes off is slightly elastic. I would love to hear from anyone that has fixed this. He is looking to me, his Mommy to make it better and I'm stumped

This is psorisis of the hands and feet. It is caused by an auto immune issue. The best treatment I have found is Aquaphor.  I have yet to discuss the underlying immune issue with my dr.

other symptoms....nails...if your nails have ridges and/or small holes this is an indicator and how I finally figured it out. Google images for hand & foot psorisis and compare.

Hi.   I've experienced a similar problem and its taken ages to work out why.  I now believe it is something in commerical liquid soaps and detergents - possibly the sodium lauryl sulphate - the main ingredient in these products.

My skin would blister then 'burst' and the edges go hard.    It would take 2-3 weeks to go through a cycle before it would eventually fall off and replaced by new skin cells.

I suggest you avoid all commercial disinfectant soaps and detergents - at home, work, and public lavatories.  Reduce the frequency of hand washing and rinse rather than soap up when ypossible.  Soap up of course after visiting the lavatory.   Use milder soaps like Dove if you can.  You'll have to go through the cycle, and maintain this careful approach and see how you go.

My problem has cleared up but I can readily recreate the problem if I expose myself to these hard detergents (washing cars, washing dishes, etc), and then have to wait a full cycle for it to clear up again

Hi. See my post. Its possibly your washing powder, perhaps not being rinsed out properly. Maybe try new clean socks for a little while. Skin cycles, once this problem starts, it takes 2-3 weeks before it regrows properly and thats assuming you havent exposed it to the problem again. Long exposure to water wont help either, so just avoid long baths if you can. I have people suggest Vitamin D, but I don't think any creams or diet will help.

I think more likely a contact dermatitis rather than auto immune.

I have had this problem for about 12 years. It seems to be seasonal for me. It will flare up as the seasons change, so every 3-4 months. I often joke that I'm like a snake shedding my skin. I have no blisters or pain. It will start with a whitened patch of skin on my palm or fingers, occassionally soles of my feet, and then progress from there. Sometimes it will start under my fingernail and go all the way to the base of my finger. Usually in the winter months, I can feel it before it begins to peel. It's like I have gloves or something covering my fingertips.  Does anyone else notice a correlation between seasonal changes and the flare ups? Just a little demographics, I'm forty, don't work around harsh chemicals or temperature changes. I don't notice any illness prior to the onset. I have experienced this since my late 20's. Just curious

I have struggled with this for years.  Finally had a patch test done and found out I have a nickel allergy.  The diagnosis was contact dermatitis and I was prescribed a topical steroid that worked to clear it up.  Basically any contact with metal for me could cause it so it's hard to know if that's even what it is.  It seems to come and go when untreated.  I am trying to find a more natural remedy or permanent fix.  Another thing that helped me years ago was a veggie supplement called supreme greens.  I was informed it could be a nutritional deficiency and began taking it regularly which also seemed to help.  Hope this helps some of you good luck!!
