This condition with the fingers feeling like there is a coat of super glue is ALL NEW TO ME !! . I am early 40s, and started to notice this freaky dryness on 2 of my fingers about 2 weeks ago. I was so freaked out, I went to the Emergency room !!!! I thought I had been bitten by a spider and my skin was dying!! There was no discoloration except for turning slightly white and it itched a little, every time I tried to scratch it, my fingers around the knuckles would swell just a little. The ER dr. said use Neosporin and bandaids for 3 days. He said it was not a spider bite and it was a tiny infection from a microscopic paper cut !!! I told him my young son has cuts all over from skate boarding, and this has never happened to him, he said " there is bacteria EVERY WHERE nowadays !!! He said its very easy to get an infection. Anyway, the Neosporin did not work. I do not think it is an infection at all !! I did do a LOT of thinking about what had I been doing differently lately.......I realized that I started taking collagen vitamins about 6 weeks ago, and I wondered if the vitamins had anything to with this dead skin thing on my fingers, after all the collagen is for SKIN.............I read the bottle and it states that the product is not guarenteed to help skin look younger, which is why I bought the vitamin and it says check with a dr before using the vitamin. Now my skin looks older on my hands and I'm quitting the vitamin to see if this clears up on its own. Its just annoying more than anything, WEIRD !! I would look to ur diet and see if u have changed anything or added anything. Seems like we all have pretty much the same thing. Hmmmmmmm.................................

I just started taking collagen vitamins 6 weeks ago for "younger looking skin" and now I noticed this dried up dead skin on 2 fingers... I think it is the vitamin !!!!! I'm qwuitting the vitamin and I want to see what happens in 6 more weeks. I want to see if it spreads to other fingers or clears up !! It is on 2 of my fingers around the knuckle area.

Hi... I just happen to be looking this up for my boyfriend who deals with it and came across Exfoliative Keratolysis as the problem. It is air filled small blisters that go through a cycle and eventually make your finger tips, palms and your feet peel. Doesnt look like there is a cure but atleast you can read about what it might be.... and how others deal with it. Good Luck!

Hello,

I am in my mid 40's and I have been dealing with condition for a year now. Same air pockets, hardening, cracking and peeling skin. Tried the steroid creams, had the patch test done (negative results to allergies) and now I am taking oral steroids for a short time. Feel like I am just wasting my money. I am going to completely stop using any soaps for sometime on my hands and continue to wear my white mittens to bed. Rolling my eyes. Will report back if things change.

Would make sense the most "simplest" thing might cure the issue. At least stop the cycle. I am game. No more detergents at all with touch my hands. Thanks

Hi i have problems with my fingers skin peeling ive tried all kind of cream ointment to fix it after reading all these comment i knew i wasn't the only one with the issue.i tried a+d ointment for skin as soon i tried it my hand felt smooth i rubber my hand for 5 minutes and waited 2 hours to see if it'll work i was happy with the results and tried again after 3 hours really excited cause i was really starting to get frustrated with skin peeling. So i recommend a+d ointment ut really works and keeps my hand and finger smooth a+d ointment try it everyone it helps

Well, I tried the not washing my hands w anything other than Dove. I wear the gloves in the shower and don't touch anything with SLS in it. The foaming stuff in everything. I took oral steroids, which did clear it up. However, within days of stoping it came back. Hands are hard and peeling again. Nott sure if the steroids actually cleared it up, or it was just on the healing cycle at the time? They were always red. I am really starting to feel defeated.

Hi , I have the very same problem and it is definitely stress related, it starts about a week after i'm stressed and the more stressed I am the worse it is. it only started happening a few years go in my 30s but has re-occurred each time I get very stressed or upset about something. nothing really seems to help, I find Neutrogena handcream one of the best it just seems to have to run its course unfortunately.

Same problem as all the above, mine is usually caused by used engine oil/diesel, if i catch it early enough I can usually reverse it with E45 cream smothered thickly on the finger I usually have a pot of it and dip my finger in it and leave it on, missed it this time!

I dislocated my middle finger and sprained my ring finger and they have been peeling too.

I have had this off and on for several years. It clears up for a month or so and then starts again. Nothing I have been given has helped.
