If you sleep but still feel sick and exhausted you may have idiopathic hypersomnia. It is a crazy thing to have.

Signs and symptoms

Those who suffer from idiopathic hypersomnia have recurring episodes of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). These occur in spite of “adequate, or more typically, extraordinary sleep amounts (e.g., greater than 10 hours per night).”[6] Sleep is usually quite deep, with significant difficulty arousing from sleep, even with use of several alarm clocks. In fact, patients with IH often must develop elaborate rituals to wake, as alarm clocks and even physical attempts by friends/family to wake them may fail. Despite getting more hours of sleep than typically required by the human body, patients awake unrefreshed and may also suffer sleep inertia, known more descriptively in its severe form as sleep drunkenness (significant disorientation upon awakening).[13] Daytime naps are generally very long (up to several hours) and are also unrefreshing, as opposed to the short refreshing naps associated with narcolepsy.[6] Sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations may also be seen, and these symptoms are as common in idiopathic hypersomnia as they are in narcolepsy without cataplexy.[8]

Several studies have shown increased frequencies of other symptoms in patients with idiopathic hypersomnia, although it is not clear whether or not these symptoms are caused by the idiopathic hypersomnia.[14][8] These symptoms include palpitations, digestive problems, difficulty with body temperature regulation, and cognitive problems, especially deficits in memory, attention, and concentration.[14] Anxiety and depression are often increased in idiopathic hypersomnia, most likely as a response to chronic illness.[8] Peripheral vascular symptoms, such as cold hands and feet (Raynaud’s-type phenomena) are quite common. In addition to difficulty with temperature regulation and Raynaud’s type symptoms, other symptoms associated with autonomic dysfunction are not uncommon in idiopathic hypersomnia. These may include: fainting episodes (syncope); dizziness upon arising (orthostatic hypotension); and headaches (possibly migrainous in quality).[14] Food cravings and impotence can also be associated.[15] In addition, some patients “exhibit hypersensitivity to sedating medications such as anesthetics, sleeping pills, or alcohol."[6]

Patients with idiopathic hypersomnia display these symptoms continually for months or years.[16] Symptom intensity often varies between weeks, months, or years, and symptoms sometimes worsen just prior to menses in women.[6] Many patients are chronically tardy to work, school or social engagements[17] and, over time, may lose the ability to function in family, social, occupational or other settings altogether.[16] (See Prognosis section below).

G'day, I feel exactly the same right at this moment. Lightheaded and little pressure behind my eyes along my eyebrows but if I get side tracked it seems to fade then I'll think about it again and it will return. How long did yours last?

I have been feeling this since I was 12- I'm 22 now. Unfortunately I don't have any answers as to what it is but I'm very relieved to see that others have this problem and am confident most of us have the same issue from what is being described. I believe it's severe anxiety I've never asked my Doctor about it though because when I was a kid I was too nervous to ask and then I just went with it thinking it was normal maybe everyone felt this way as they grew up. Thanks for posting this though I'm relieved to see I'm not alone but also I hope you all find a cure for yourselves or feel better. I have not been able to find anything that helps.

Hello everyone !

I have been suffering with similar problems, lightheaded, extremely tired, unable to concentrate at times and difficult to focus.
Please get your blood test done and ask your doctor to confirm your vitamin B12 levels. The above symptoms are related to lack of b12 in the body causing extreme fatigue, lightheaded feeling, confusion etc. After having a course of B12 weekly injections the symptoms started to fade away. According to the research many doctors fail to get patient tested on B12 levels which is underlying issue for many people.

Best wishes to everyone and hope everyone suffering out there finds a solution.

Mr Singh.

Well its been my case since 18months now. Tinnitus to boot. MRIs CTS BCP hB and all the bla blaas. Inexplicable as my symptoms are, no Dr in the world can figure out what can it be. Iv been using antibiotechs for about a decade since my sinusitis plagued me with dirty fevers. In winters i used scores of anti allergy eg antihistamine etc. Some say its the effect of these medicines. Lately i got into herbal things n a seasoned herbalist told me its bcz of yr diet. I started changing ma diet n made lifestyle changes as per his instructions. I had anxiety turned into deprssn during these months. He said its all in yr guts. Herbal medication jas done a wonder ie to gimme back my real self bcz ibhad lost it. Still i wonder if these herbals can cure ma tinnitus n dizziness like vission sensations alongwith thebfoggy brain. Pray for ma health plz. Im 37 n i got kids. I love them. Its not as if um afraid of death. Its just i don wanna leav them this young. V neva know.
