How long did it take for your insurance to approve the surgery? I'm still waiting, it's been a few days now.
I appreciate everyone being so transparent and honest! My ENT appt is Monday. I’ve been dealing with tonsil Stones for too long. I’m 49 yr old. I relate with all of you. Tonsils are a pain in the ass. I hope to have mine removed. I just wanted to share my gratitude to you all .
I'm on day 15 of my tonsillectomy and for the exact same reason (the deadly tonsil stones) I could relate to every word you said and I was adamant to get rid of the source itself. I'm 37 and this was definitely not easy for me. I read almost all the tonsillectomy stories online and purchased every possible item mentioned that could help relieve the pain. I was very well prepared both physically and mentally. Soon after the surgery I was able to talk normally and eat my food as well, this surprised the doctor who told me that my pain tolerance level was 10/10 which got me really excited and I felt my recovery would not be as horrific as the internet stories I had read. But I was wrong. Day 1-3 was easy painless but day 4 onwards the pain kicked in my throat felt a bit tight. Day 5-8 were the worst with pain, burning sensation and ear ache also had a swollen tongue and enlarged Uvula. I was not able to eat anything and although I had decide to skip dairy I had no option but to have ice cream. I literally survived on Protein shakes, water and ice cream but with lot of pain and burning sensation. The pain was unbearable for me and the painkiller Tylenol prescribed was just not enough. I just started popping in double dose of the pain killer as well as added Advil which gave my instant relief however, that lead to my scabs bleeding and slowed down the recovery. I managed to control the bleeding with cold water, but I didn't stop taking advil. Sleeping at nights were not easy due to the ear ache. I had a lot of plans to enjoy the 14 days medical leave but that was not the case I was in pain through out. I ate my first meal on 8th night and then on started eating warm food all non-spicy(Sorry Im an Indian and spice is an important part of my meal) as my throat was still raw. Today being day 15 is the first day I avoided the painkillers I still find it difficult to swallow and have manageable pain. I'm hoping I can be back to normal ASAP.
I purchased the humidifier but I'm not sure if that really helped. Ice packs were handy and I slept upright on the couch for almost 10 days. I'm sure I would have felt better much sooner if I had avoided advil or ibruphen but at that moment I couldn't careless of the consequences. I was hoping I would be one of those people who wouldn't have write another horrific story on the internet to scare people but I think its important to be mentally prepared for this.

Sweet corn chicken soup.
I literally got mine taken out 6 days ago and this is by far the most accurate thing that I have ever read about my tonsillectomy. I am telling you I am in so much of pain so far day 3 was the worst for me aside from today. Today's issue is that my left side is bleeding and I am not so sure why, today was my first day back at college and I did a lot. I walked 3 flights of stairs, then two an hour later, across campus, I choked on water 4 times (did not learn my lesson of drinking and walking is not for me), and I had to talk a lot today in almost every class. Tomorrow is my follow up and I so scared that my healing process has now been delayed. I've done so well with not eating and I think it's gone down the drain. So much to trying to survive lololol
