Recent discussions about the weather have prompted me to start looking into getting a trainer for my mountain bike. Winter isn't the fiercest here, but we do often have freezing rain and black ice. Plus, I'm a wuss and would like to have an option besides the freakout hell bus ride that is my gym in the winter.
I know PH has the Cycle-Ops Fluid2 trainer, but that is probably 2X the worth of my Sears-purchased bike. Any other feasible options? I've been Googling and checking eBay, but I feel like I'm re-inventing the wheel in this research. I'm not even sure what features I'd like, aside from a low price and little noise.
Also, are there any accessories that are vital? I've seen some blurbs about front wheel blocks and mats.
I'll try to talk the good folks at my LBS, too. Maybe they have a demo I can try.
TIA for any advice/ideas!

I got my trainer from eBay, and I really like it. Final price was around $50.00. It took me 3 or 4 auctions to get one though. Mine is by Bikextras. It has worked out really well for me so far. Mine is just a straight trainer, you use the gears to change resistance. I wanted something simple.
I ordered the wheel block not to long after. I also order a rear wheel compatible computer so I can track my speed and distance.
Good luck

I have a Performance brand mag trainer.
Muchas gracias, guys!
I got mine from Nashbar. Its a Nashbar brand fluid trainer (fluid is supposed to be the quietest I'm told) and i got it on sale for ~$90, they really drop in price if you watch that site. Its not a name brand and no bells or whistles but it does what I want it to and thats allow me to ride indoors as long as my sanity allows.
