sooooooo last year I was listening to radio and there was a program the a medical doctor speaking on contraceptive methods. he discouraged hormonal use and his exact words were that " hormones make your body become like a man". that freaked me out and i stopped with the pills. not like i was a regular user of them any way. he encouraged the use of the copper IUD. a friend of mine who is a nurse also gave it a thumbs up.i did my research and was won over by the idea of a non hormonal method that can last for years without any major effects. Boy! was i wrong. 4 days ago i had the IUD put in and the cramps were manageable. i was on my period at that time so made the insertion easier so to speak. my issue is, the discomfort in my lower abdomen (manageable) but evidence and the back aches. not forgetting the somewhat foul brown discharge. now am one to experiment with contraceptive methods so that i can give a story of experience to someone who may ask, but after reading all these experiences and what am feeling i really do not think i can woman up and give it a chance to see if my body will adjust to it. this forum and many others have been an eye opener. am so getting this out today or tomorrow and sticking with condoms

Exactly the same, only this is my 2nd inserted about 6 months,
The smell is so bad I've got tested for everything including all STIs all clear, the only thing it could be is the mirena and if Simone could help with any solutions if they found one that be great, of this keeps up lol be removing it and it would be a shame because everything else about it has been great

This is not a good or safe idea!!!! Peroxide can kill your own protective vaginal cell lining and cause additional vaginal infections!!

Ok ladies. I'll go ahead and let you know that I am a guy. And I'm in need of advise. I have been in a relationship with my girlfriend for 9 months. And I think this forum has answered the question on the odors origin. I have done extensive research.

So here is the issue. She is a large animal Veterinarian and has a diminished sence of smell. (Or rather a not sence of smell). I often have to tell her to change her work clothes because they smell. (She has very good grooming standards just a bad nose)
Ok ok. So my issue is how do I tell her about the odor. This is a sensitive subject and don't want her to form a complex or be really embarrassed. What do I do?
Please help.

This is a terrible piece of advice, douching is never advised. Got mine out, never felt or "smelled" better. Do not EVER put any thing in your body cavities, PLEASE. "Douching" makes you smell fresh for the moment, but doesn't cover the underlying problem, the mirena has given me nothing but a hassle & thinking that the other was cheating, with my own fiance. To be completely blunt, i had an unexplainable "smell" and had only been with one man for 3 years. I have a son previously, a miscarriage, leading to the dreaded mirena. I'm a 5'3 102lb little woman, PLEASE DONT USE THE MIRENA. IF YOU HAVE IT PLEASE TAKE IT OUT. it's brought me nothing but problems for the last year. Im not ready for my second, but before LITERALLY EVERYTHING, please worry about your health. This is not a good product.

Yes!!! It's absolutely horrible. :( The smell/discharge will not get any better and my periods are much longer, lasting at times up to 10 days!!!! I also thought I had some type of infection but my doctor ran tests and everything came back negative. She prescribed something to help with the discharge which in turn helped with the smell but after a few weeks it returned!!! My doctor also suggested removal.

Boric acid vaginal inserts have become my life saver until I can get this thing out. I initially got a prescription from my OBGYN, but you can get it over the counter also.
