Finding this website, actually eases my fears. Just knowing others are going through this. I am 53, I don't have insurance, so have gone to the same emergency clinic twice, seeing two different doctors there. They felt around on my side, and told me I had bruised my ribs. Well having fallen pretty hard fall on the rocks, on that side, coming out of fly fishing in a river in New Mexico two months earlier I thought, ok that could be it. I also had this wiggling feeling all over my stomach like worms, and one of the doctors actually laughed at me and said he'd never heard of that. The wiggling feeling is 98% gone, but the spams feel like they are getting worse. I admit, I work sitting on a hard floor , bent over, for hours at a time. I am overweight , although I do not have a bad diet ( I'm serious ), but I dont' seem to have time for the exercise I need.
It comes on like a charlie horse, but on my right side, upper stomach. It hurts so bad, that all I can do is try and straighten out, or just stand up and that seems to help, but then I am sore as heck for days , and susceptible to another spasm more easily. I wonder if I should try magnesium like others have said, I guess it couldn't hurt ? I don't have the luxury of going and getting alot of tests done without insurance. I worried it might be a hernia, but apparently that's the wrong area for that ? I had my gallbladder out about 8 or 9 years ago. I wish there was an answer, this is scary.

I'm searching for the same answer. I'm 63 years old and I have had a wedge taken out of my left lung 4 years prior to lung cancer. I can turn a certain way and a severe breathe taking cramp will hit my upper abdomen area. I have to hold my breath until it eases up and sometimes it comes back.

Thank you for posting. What are the other symptoms ?

I am a 55-year-old female, and I have terrible, extreme cramping high up under my left rib cage. Four instance, I was just sitting on the floor trimming my toenails and it happened. I don’t know what causes it it’s only been happening for about 10 years but are getting worse.

I too suffer terrible from this. Even if I stretch they become so severe especially under my ribs. Dr don't know the cause and they gave me pills that I won't take. My neuro Dr says it's from the Hydroxyurea I Need to take for my blood disorder. But my hematologist says no. Who to believe??

Hello all,
I have been living with this for 1.5 years now. I have had from endoscopy to scans, test and x-rays. Like all.of you no answers at all. One thing that also correlates to my spasms is my blood test. When I had my fist spasm my PCP had me do a complete blood panel. They found out my WBC "white blood cells were very low. At points they were 3.3 all the way down to 1.5 with my Nuetrafil levels down to .400!! Had a bone marrow test done and now I'm on a every 8 weeks Complete blood panel test done. Till this day no answers. My question is has anyone had any blood test done? Would like to compare !

I have the same thing. The Doc thinks I'm a hypochondriac because I've had tests and nothing shows up. Yesterday it came on hard and hurt like hell. My husband was driving and I was in the passenger seat, I turned towards him to hand him something and a softball size knot of muscle under my left ribcage started squeezing and I was flipping out. My husband had not ever been around before when this would happen and it scared him. I told him to get me home so I could stretch out and before we got home it had eased up. My abdomen is swollen and it feels so sore, like a donkey kicked me.

Oh my gosh!!! I can’t believe others have this problem too! I have been calling them fat cramps because I am a little on the chubby side! Lol
I get them once or twice a week but they usually don’t last long. Today I had my second one that was so bad that I broke out in a sweat, felt nauseous and have a headache and very sore now! I try to walk it off, seriously beat on my side trying to get the cramp out and what usually helps is laying flat on the floor with my arms up! But when your in a public place that’s embarrassing!
I wish there was something that worked! I read on one that she drinks more water now and that seems to help. I’m not much of a water drinker but starting tomorrow I will be!

I have the same Charlie horse muscle spasms and have had all kinds of tests run. Nothing has shown up, but after 2 1/2 years of suffering like this, my doctor thinks it might be Esophagus spasms. She has me on Nifedipine 30 mg once daily. I'm on day 3 and I still feel pressure but not as bad. I will continue to take it because I need a miracle. She said there is a pressure test they can do to check my esophagus.

All of us here are experiencing the same thing but my situation is very similar to yours. My pain is mostly on the right side and I have had my gallbladder removed. Also, just as yourself, my pain did not come until a couple years after the surgery. After reading this I dont think I want to go to the Dr. because i dont have money to just give away only to hear "Im not sure why you are having these pains" or "take this referral to see this Dr.". I cant afford all these Dr. bills. I have mentioned it to my Dr. during my annual one year but he pushed that issue to the side. Maybe he knows this is hard to diagnose and dont really want to open that can.

I have been getting these muscle spasms on and off for a long time. And finally my Chiropractor recommended I try Magnesium and stay hydrated. Sure enough when I take Natural Calm which is very absorbable, within a couple minutes I feel all my muscles relax. And I don't have to worry about stomach cramps the rest of the day.
