Hi Maria! I started taking D Mannose. Please research and try it out. I'm feeling better in two days after a week of problems.

I tried taking D-Mannose tablets before and they had no effect. I was told by my doctor that they probably didn't work because there was no infection there. Then I was told to try the powder. I still haven't tried it because I find it hard to stomach anything medicinal mixed with water. Even cystopurine made me puke, just the sweetness off it or something! Is it the powder you used? I'd like to try it but at €33, its very pricey for me! I'm only 18 and going through college at the moment but that said, I'd definately give the powder a shot if I knew that it worked for other people with the same problem! :)

Yes it's the powder and it wasn't that expensive. I found it on amazon. The powder has little taste and you can put it in anything. I have put it in my cold bottled water and never knew it was there. Another thing, doctors and the tests that they use do not always detect the bacteria that cause the problem. Maybe because for some of us it doesn't take much? I don't know but I was willing to try anything. Hope you can find what works. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I did!! :) and I'm going to a holistic doctor as soon as I can to get her advice. I'm tired of medical doctors and their bandaid solutions with drugs that harm us further!!

This is a long post but i feel it's worth reading!

My story is much the same as everyone else's, but with a positive ending i need to share!  I had a urine infection roughly a year ago and went to the docs for antibiotics.  The antibiotics didn't work and i ended up in hospital for 3 days with a kidney infection.  After that, i had reoccuring "infections" (I use inverted commas because quite often when i was tested there would be no infection)and each time would take another course of antibiotics.  After months of "infections" and numerous doses of antibiotics, i was left with a constant pain in my urethra.  Some days it would be worse than others, but it would always hurt.  The only way i could describe it was that my bladder and urethra felt wooden, like they had no elasticity, and a pain would shoot up inside me after urination.  I had this for 6 months and was losing my mind! I saw 6 different doctors and still couldn't get an answer.  I eventually came up with my own conclusion.  I felt that i had taken so many courses of antibiotics that i was left with an imbalance of "good bacteria" in my urethra and bladder.  Kind of like when a course of antibiotics upsets the balance in your vagina and you get thrush/yeast infection.  So i did a bit of research online and found that there are two types of good bacteria that are needed in your urethra - Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14.  I looked up supplements that contained these and found great online reviews, so i bought them straight away.  I live in australia and bought Blackmores - Womens Bio balance (there was an american alternative but i cant remember the name).  Anyway, i started taking 1 a day, every morning and i swear, the pain disappeared after 2 days.  I couldn't believe it!  I've been taking them for nearly 2 months now and i feel amazing!  I feel normal again.  I can now drink alcohol, eat spicy food, do exercise etc and feel no pain at all.  So i just wanted to recommend this option for you all.  If you're as desperate as i was, you'll try it.  It might not work for everyone, but i really recommend taking a supplement that contains these bacteria.  It might be your cure.

Sorry, i know this post is long!  But i just felt i should share it with you all and give you another option.

Best of luck to you all.

Hi! I was just reading some posts and I would like to tell you a hint my sister told me. She rubs a small amount of over the counter hydrocortisone into her urethra. I tried it and it works! She also said to try and wait until your bladder is full before you urinate because the constant urination of small dribbles will just irritate it worse. It works for me!

Thanks Jennifer! I use hydrocortisone for skin problems. I will try that. My only issue is that the problem rarely stops at the outer urithra. My bladder itself becomes swollen. The d mannose is helping but not completely so I'm ordering the probiotics mentioned by Macgregor. I'll keep posting with results.

I just got wind of a new theory. It has to do with chicken and the way they are raised using antibiotics. check it out! http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/07/11/superbug-dangers-in-chicken-linked-to-8-million-at-risk-women/

Hydrocortisone cream can be purchased over the counter. Because it is a steroid, it can really thin and weaken the tissues with repeated use. So please do not overuse, and be careful not to use internally. This can really help alleviate external pain, however. No joke, well known medical fact, just not often recommended due to risk of overuse. Try one thin application, once every 3 days or so. You may find nearly instant relief of tender tissues. Remember NOT to overuse. I couldn't hardly sit without pain, for eleven years. When new Gynocologist suggested, thought it was more of an insult/placebo, but truly worked to my surprise. Now rarely ever need to repeat. I too, kept getting UTI's. You are only out a couple bucks to try, but may just gain a lifetime of relief. I wish you all the same success. Sometimes medicine fails us. I think repeated antibiotic use just sets many up for more infectious opportunistic bacteria. Good luck.

They also use antidepressants to treat pain from Interstitial Cystitis, not depression.

Fashgirl82- Have you looked into Interstitial Cystitis? I'd have a urologist check you out for it.
