Just drink lots of water. Keep your system fully irrigated. I have burning(doesn't last too long)after urination. I have had kidney stones way in the past and more recently ---GOUT.Hospital test proved uric acid high. A doc. said some years ago that, especially women don't drink enough WATER; and its the best complexion aid ever.
I am so happy to report my finding. For two years I suffered from frequent UTI's which went away when I quit drinking rediculously strong coffee. But even after the infection went away I suffered from urethral pain and discharge. I went to the urologist who gave me urethral massage to break up the congestion in the urethral glands which he likened to acne. I had a cystoscopy which was negative. I got estrace cream wich was irritating to my war torn urethra. So I bought D- mannose, marshmallow root and slippery elm bark which really does help symptoms. But the unexpected surprise came when I switched from sweet 'n low to stevia after a recent study from Sweden talked about the 33% increase in type 2 diabetes. Almost immediately all urethral pain has been gone. So my prayer is that some of you have the same relief from this hideous problem. My boss says she had a similar problem with Tylenol. I also eliminated those little packetts we pour in our drinks like Snapple. Please keep me posted on any progress and any solutions you come up with. Good luck!!!

I, too, have been living with a similar problem. I call my problem quivering pee'er. It started quietly 3 years ago. Gradually, it has slowly gotten out of control. I am peeing constantly. If I forget or overlook using the bathroom by running an errand, I risk wetting my pants, as I am unable to hold back my pee. Agrivating!!! My urethra also is kicking my crotch a new one. No matter how much or how little comes out (usually a very small amount), the most intense pain occurs after the stream stops. It feels like I just hit my crotch on the cross bar of a bicycle (for us girls, this is wicked painful).
My naturopath I have been seeing for 3 months, recommended I take D-Mannose, a type of sugar that is derived from pineapple and cranberry. The first 12 days I noticed mucous after peeing. The other stuff is still going on, but at least my body has a natural antibiotic on its side. In traditional chinese medicine, the organs of our bodies each have a time of day. I have been noticing my problem correlates with "bladder time", beginning at around 3 in the afternoon, most days.
I have had some luck getting my bladder/quivering pee'er to settle down by pressing on either of the dents on my pubic bone, almost paralell to the urethra, one accupressure point on each side, with decent results. I also press on the back of each calf, on the midline, with the opposite big toe. The urinary bladder medians run along the rear centerline of each calf until the knee, when they cross to the inseam, and up to the crotch. My UB median points tend to be sore to the touch, meaning an energy blockage. I will massage these spots for 1-2 minutes, with a 5 minute rest, 3 or 4 times, in bed at night and before I get up in the morning. Until the diagnostic tests get authorized, I have no other options, except self rescue. The initial apt w/the urologist proved I was free of UTI, STD's, STI's and yeast infection.
I think my L3-4, L4-5, L5-S1 nerve roots' damage are messing with my bladder/quivering pee'er/urethral pain problem. I also believe the pain meds I have been swallowing every 12 hours for the last 7 years, has caused my body chemistry to become overly acidic. (Sweat stains on my clothes are unremovable.) Acidic ph causes stones, cysts, and oter forms of disharmony.
So you take marshmallow root herb by mouth? How much? How often? Thanks!
Hello All,
I thought I'd share my experience of this pain too. :(
It all started when I was 11, I even remember it was a wednesday :( I had a MASSIVE history of bladder infections, they happened at least once a year, more often than not completely ruining christmases and family holidays... When it first started it felt exactly like a bladder infection, with the pain gradually building after peeing. I do remember it feeling slightly different though, as I was so used to what a bladder infection feels like. I remember being in so much pain that night, I kept drinking water and peeing (I did notice at this point that I was missing the uncontrollable urge to pee like I usually get with infections). When I went to the emergency department, they gave me antibiotics like usual, but for the first time they didn't take the pain away within hours. I was beyond surprised when the urine test came back negative!
I'm now nearly 19, and while I've obviously gotten used to dealing with the pain, at the same time I don't think you can ever get used to dealing with pain. I have varying degrees of pain, at least once a day I get a 'big' pain, where I have to drink about two litres of water and sit in a room on my own until the pain goes (between half an hour to two hours). Obviously, I don't always have the liberty of the water and empty room! I also have lots of lesser pain in between. I probably have an hour or two with no pain in total, there is usually some degree of pain. I find the only way I can make the pain go is if I have a full bladder, and if I urinate without a full bladder, it's just a recipe for disaster!
I've been for countless tests over the years, countless scans and cystoscopy's, as well as trying every pill under the sun. I have found absolutely nothing that remotely effects the level of pain. It is very depressing to live with, and the fact that I've had it for nearly half my life (I can barely remember a time before pain) makes it worse. I don't think that it helps that it isn't something you can easily talk about and explain to other people, especially because I have no diagnosis; so you kind of have to bear the pain in silence. I'm meant to be going to Machu Picchu in the summer, an absolute lifetime dream, but I have such doubts about going. All I can think of is the sheer pain I'm going to be in without a massive supply of water. This condition has been so debilitating in my life, stopping me from doing so many things, I'm afraid to go on a simple day out in case of pain and I can't easily access water. I never leave the house without a litre on me.
I'm sorry about the essay, it's just so overwhelming to see so many people with the same condition. I am literally in tears reading all your stories, I have never met anyone with the same thing; and had begun to think I was the only one.
I'm so thankful for all your suggestions :)
Have a look on the net for 'Interstitial Cystitis'. It was suggested by another member to look into this and I have found that it is exactly what I have. Your problems sound exactly like mine too. It's all about what we eat and also taking supplements like Slimmery Elm, High doses of Cranberry (15,000), D-Manoose and Marshmallow Root. All the best!
I use an over the counter antihistimine like claritin or benadryl, this help me with the spasm, sometime I also use a heating pad under my bottom, also being constipated does not health so keep your bowel open ,change your diet ,eat less citritus food, stay away from a lot of caffeine.
Oh My Word!! I am almost in tears of joy at finding this discussion. I have been going through the urethral pain and UTI's for about 3 years now. Just recently had a procedure where they shoot a steroid into the urethra to see if it will help. The pain is a little more bearable but the pain is still there. I am going to try the tea tree oil and to cut out the caffeine to see if it will help. Will keep you all updated and I am so darn glad I am not crazy!!
Hey all! Suffered with this on and off for a while. Here is a comprehensive list of things people seem to do to to find relief ::::::::
1) Acidic beverages- coffee/tea (even green, I think)/coke are the biggest culprits
2) Eat more foods that promote alkalinity (the opposite of acidity): http://www.naturalnews.com/038274_alkaline_foods_improved_health_conscious_eating.html : also look at the IC diet (interstitial cystitis)
3) Toilet paper that is unbleached/ less treated is a great idea.
*******4) If you have dandruff or exfoliate your face in the shower, your shampoo might contain salycilic acid. If this is the case, and you are not super careful about keeping the water from reaching your crotch while you shower, you might be causing some extra burning by using acid-containing soaps. (dandruff shampoo/facial exfoliant might both have helped me along the road to painful urethra hell)
5) stay hydrated
6) try to find time to de-stress
******7) USE TEA TREE OIL TO NUMB THE PAIN (IT WORKS TEMPORARILY BUT VEEEERRRRYYYY WELLLLLL!!!!!!!)
******8) Use baking soda to neutralize the acidity (not sure how this works yet, just started experimenting) by applying it directly to the area of your urethra
When I am off my game, a single cup of coffee during a stressful time will bring on an attack. I am currently off my game. Gotta try to get back on track.

Re-read my post (just before this one) and realized I was a bit unclear about a few things.
1) coke/tea/coffee = bad for people like us!!!!
4) you still want to shower and wash your urethra and reproductive parts very well every time you shower, but you do not want to get the rinse water from any acidic soap products on them- try to wash your face and hair under a faucet in the tub or with a spray-hose before you shower, if that is possible
ONE LAST ADDENDUM!!!! NO BAKING SODA DIRECTLY ON THE URETHRA!!! ONLY DILUTED WITH WATER A LOT!!!!!
I feel the same pain in my urethra. Recently had symptoms of a UTI, urine culture turned out negative. Still having pain/pressure/discomfort coming from my urethra and lower adomin. I have an appointment with a Urologist on April 2nd. What should I tell him? I don't want a cystocopy or invasive procedures. what should I expect on my first visit to a Urologist? I'm scared and frustrated.
