I am 39 years old and have been suffering with urethral pain for about 3-4 years now. Had every test under the sun done: ultra sound to check for kidney and bladder stones, ct scan, urethral cystoscopy. The cystoscopy was done by a uro-gynecologist who then diagnosed me with Interstitial Cystitis. Put me on a med that started to work but then the pharmaceutical company stopped making it. Went back to the doctor who put me on an anti-depressant for pain management. A little while later I developed growths coming out of my urethra, which I looked up and found are called urethral caruncles, which normally occur in menopausal women due to lack in estrogen. Dr told me to use an estrogen cream 3 nights a week at bed time. I always forget to use it since I work night work and its really gross. It wasn't helping anyway. I lost my insurance for a while due to my husband losing his job and the doctor wouldn't prescribe the anti-depressant anymore without me going in for a visit. So now I am completely un-medicated and at my wits end. I've also now started with some pre-menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and painful intercourse and dryness. My next course of self-medication is to take Estroven and see if it helps with any of my symptoms. If I have any success, I will post.

Had urethral syndrome 17 years ago.  Took 5 months, 1 gyny operation, 3 gps 1 of whom said I was depressed because of the way I looked (I had 1 or 2 hours sleep each day and no night sleep for 10 nights).  Was sent to the hospital, went through gyno op for inverted womb first didnt work, was prescribed ditropan which worked for pain relief and was the first time I had any pain reflief for over 2 months.  Then saw urologist.

Symptoms: spasms urethra and bladder, pinching, pulling, a burning though different to bladder infection, cutting pains, sickening pains, constant sensation of wanting to pee, flow was decreased and inconsistant.  RELIEVED by peeing for 30 seconds to couple minutes then resumed. No burning on peeing. Felt like was sitting on an egg.  Sitting hurt, lying down hurt, walking around hurt the least.  No over the counter pain or anti inflammatories touched this and at times it reached the level of labour pain.  Urologist discovered no inflammation no abnomalities, found urethra so tight struggled to get microscope intrument in to see.  This stretching lessened the problem for awhile and then it flared again and then another stretching (dilation) and then it got better and better and finally stopped after a couple of months.  symptom free for 17 years and hello now its back.  Taking ditropan (bladder muscle relaxant) and experimenting with alternative naturals and alkalizing foods.

Got on to this quick this time and able to keep the area relaxed because I am not in that terrible pain because of the ditropan.  Also I am aware it can go.  Also found the gp this time completely aware of urethral problem, the first time they didnt have a clue.

Pain relief is essential even if it doesnt take it out completely bringing it to a level that is liveable is important so there is no extra  holding and tightening due to the pain.  I will look at dilation again if it doesnt clear within a month, have had now for 3 weeks.

Posting to encourage others it can improve, the pain can be relieved and needs to be and it can go away, for many years if not forever

Where on your body do you apply the tea tree oil? Do your symptoms feel like spasms and is urinating your brain/body's answer to relief?

I'm having the same urethral pain and I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS also. I'm going to the urologist in a couple weeks but I don't have much hope. The pain comes on strong after I drink caffeine. The only relief I have found is taking AZO.

I too have suffered for about 4 years with burning, painful sex, attacks of the urethra that feel like its violently throwing up inside; with tests (cystoscopy/MRI/CT scans with dye) all proving negative. Few things seem to consistently help stave off symptoms: 1) eating an Alkali diet (no meat, no dairy, no processed foods) of mostly raw veggies and cooked veggies. 2) When the symptoms begin I take an antibiotic, drink a teaspoon of aluminum free baking soda in water, and head for the Azo pain reliever. Turns the pee funny colors but in 40 minutes kills the pain almost completely. For long term true help I find taking Desert Harvest aloe (proven to be effective on IC) twice a day. Good luck~ its a nasty journey. Be your own investigator... the docs have a hard time GETTING this one! But if you use common sense... and check acidity of your urine, you will find that alkali is the way to go probably.

Yes. I can take the urethral spasms during the day, but when they hit at night, it's the worst!! My boyfriend got some Nettle Root Compound. We are older and he used it to help him urinate and suggested it might help me. I have been using it when it starts "zinging" for about two weeks. All I can say is the it is like a miracle. Within about 20 minutes, the pain is gone and I can actually urinate without pain and empty my bladder. He got it online, but they may have it at GNC. I hope this helps

The inflammation of the vulva causes the inflamed urethra (urethral pain w/o infection), I went to Urologist who immediately knew what was causing my problem which I was prescribed Estradiol Cream to insert vaginally twice a week when symptoms started.  I could sometimes go month's w/o another flair up.  FYI, I am post-menopausal but younger than most pt's who are post-menopausal (40yrs old).  Do not know if this can effect yournger non-menopausal females but hey worth checking into, GOODLUCK!

same here..no Dr. can figure it out. The pain is like a knife, and like another said, felt like sitting on an egg, I found Ultram takes the pain away !!! I take 2 each morning, then 1 midday.

You need to pay attention to the manufacturers of the Ultram tho..only Teva works !

The other brands help a little, but cause itching, constant itching ! All over..I  woke up with bloody arms from scratching in my sleep, you scratch your head so much if you are in public, people begin to stare, so try to get Teva. ONLY CVS HAS THIS !

If you have no insurance it will be generic Tramidol, use the discount ins cards most CVS have available for you.

I get 120 month for appx 34.00

It's the ONLY MED that works for me, no side effects, and stock up on these..they always change things, and if this goes away, I will be back to the constant pain too.

Hope this helps !!

You might want to consider IC. Hope it is not but the pain is usually better after urinating. I have pain in my urethra also. Lived with it for 20 yrs. Found a uro/gyno and hope she can help me, it is so painful just to wear pants. Jeans are out of the question. Hope you find an answer. This all started after a hystro.

Had this for a while now. I do have a thyroid problem and sometimes when I'm overmedicated, I do urinate often and a lot-however, the stinging sensation started with an actual UTI and hasn't let up. I couldn't make it into my regular doctor, but urgent care showed I had a UTI by a dip, but culture showed nothing.  Was on one antibiotic but my symtoms became worse and my urine became bloody, so I was switched to another one. No more blood and urine dips look clean, had ultrasound and no stone obstruction nor any bladder stones, kidney function great by bloodwork, no signs of an infetion... but  have stinging sensation, and it's been  like that for about nine days. Have a sore bladder area when I lie or sit a certain way, and the stinging is not during urination-the stinging is present after and in between when I go. It's not itchy, but just annoying. I was given Diflucan since they did a quick pelvic exam and thought they saw what could be a yeast infection and thought maybe it was that, but it hasn't let up. I've been taking over the counter yeast cream, probiotics, Vitamin C, drinking water like a fish, cranberry capsules, and adding baking soda to some water to try and help... but it keeps coming and going in waves. I have an actual OBGYN appointment soon and I'm going to bring this up and I'll see if it's something as easy as needing a different antibiotic (I'm honestly not sure if the burn is vaginal or urethral) or if I need to go to a urologist for further examination. I just wish the stnging would stop! I haven't used anything new- soap, perfume, lotion, or detergent, nothing like that, so this is very frustrating. My estradiol is pretty low, and I wonder if it's connected?
