I suffered with this problem for a over a year now. It only occurs once in a few months(every 6 months or so). At first I thought it may be from my boyfriend due to the fact that we had unprotected sex... However I got tested for everything and it wasn't an STD or any infection for that sort. I first bought canastin for external and internal cream... The itchiness was only during the night.. I also wased myself with vinegar and cold water since the heat attracts more itchiness. Eventually after a week I went to the doctor and he gave me flagystin... The itch was unbearable... The first time I used it, I found that it only made my symptoms worse... More itchiness...

I started to notice a pattern... Everytime I used shaving cream or body wash, I would get an itchy vulva. I opted to change tampons ( since mine were not organic) and hopefully this will also give better results, as well as since I shave... I assume since the hair grows back this causes itchiness aswel.. I resulted also this time around to more home remedies since the prescripted cream didn't work the first time. The cream is a 10 day cream but I only used it for 2 days so I had lots left over. I immediately felt itchiness after my period ending so I began using vinegar and cold water, and washed myself as many times as I could through out the day.. I tried yogurt ( plain, Greek yogurt) and didn't find much of a result when applying it. I found that it actually caused more itchiness after the coldness disappeared... I found that applying canaestin and vinegar worked best. I did however throughout those few days (4) eat a lot of yogurt since I heard it helped. I also switched towels each time I washed myself so that the irritation couldn't spread again or reoccurs. I also didn't rub myself dry, I let myself air dry and tried to use cotton underwear or none at all st night. Lastly, I used the flagystin again and it seemed to work much better this time around... Hopefully this helps

I haven't posted here in awhile, but I used to suffer from this problem and nothing my doctor gave me helped. At first they thought yeast, then tried to say I was douching and/or using the wrong products (I've never douched in my life and I use mild Dove soap), and then gave me some kind of steroid cream, which of course didn't work. Interestingly enough, I had Mirena inserted about a year and a half ago and ever since I have not had this issue. I believe this is because on Mirena I do not have my period (very rarely I will have some spotting, but never a real period). Considering that I (and the majority of others on this forum) would only have this problem immediately before, during, and for a few days after my period, as well as the fact that I no longer have this issue since my Mirena implant, it seems evident that the issue is caused by something going awry during the menstrual cycle. I found interesting article about Cytolytic vaginosis, which is the medical term for lactobacilli overgrowth, and is entirely different from candidiasis (yeast infection).

While it doesn't totally resolve the question, it is a starting point and at least provides you something to talk about with your doctor. Good luck ladies.

Found on another search it's just hormonal usually, the imbalance causes all sorts of discomfort. It's possible you could have an allergy to products but I discount that as i have had the issue regardless of using a tampon and pads don't go inside.. St the end of the periodyour new cycle kicks in but possibly not enough lubrication so it causes a discomfort and the beginning, could be over sensitivity to hormones causing vaginitis. It's not usually a huge deal pretty common..all I'm all the usual period problems are all hormones or hormonal imbalance.

I have searched this and I am happy (not like glad) but happy others have felt this way too. Although my doctor has noted it may be because of the pads, liners, or tampons I may use. And also being on your period will make it MOIST down there so it will cause irritation with the dry and moist. so basically clean myself after everytime I go to the bathroom and shower. Which is crazy because I feel like I clean good enough but I guess moisture over rules it.

It's an allergy is correct. This is the first time this ever happened to me. I'm literally just coming off my period. I noticed it occurred right after using a tampon and leaving it in over night. I'm glad the first person said that cause this is exactly what I did. And from there, I did notice the frequent peeing. Now I can google. TSS, toxic shock syndrome, the re are many side effects, that goes along with the use of tampons being used over 4 hours. I remember feeling faint like before and getting a sudden headache out the blue. We all have the same thing in common. A period, then she mentioned the tampons.

I had the same problem. Thank GOD is gone. It was the type of tampons I was using. I ordered organic, little more expensive but so worth it. I could not sleep or do anything waisted money on co payments and nothing will solve my pain. I aslo got a little spray bottle and added vinegar. Spray after showering. Another thing I did, bought me a ph balance feminine wash. It made wonders. No more pain. I googled many options, reason I am back to let all of you know. Good luck

I think at the end of your period you tend not to change the pad or tampon alot? So you may leave it in there longer as you may know not much blood would be on it. This can be a main cause as poor hygiene at the end of period as most women tend to do this with pads and change it at the last days only twice which can become sweaty and this is what gives you this. :)

Me too! Ive asked and asked at the Gynos office but no one knows what to do! Iwas thinking it was hormones too. I have a 7 year old , no birth control pills, use Tampax tampons and usually it comes about the last day of my period, but I have had it before also. If you find out something please let me know. Thanks Steph

Just be careful not to overuse steroid creams. They cause thinning of the skin overtime. Clebetosol and triamcinolone DO help though! I've had unexplained horrendous vaginal burning around my period for years. I was hoping having a baby would have balanced me out, but to my dismay it has returned. I have been tested hormonally and seen a specialist: a vaginal dermatologist. I did have slightly higher testosterone levels than normal, but otherwise tested out fine. She assumed it was an allergy but my insurance wouldn't cover it, so we never figured it out. Progesterone allergies so exist ladies! She told me to avoid "always" brand feminine products as they have higher bleaching content than other brands. I got Tampax tampons this time around and they burned like a MF though. Cotton underwear is a must. I've been using my son's diaper rash ointment with zinc oxide in it and that's helping a little.

Doctors have no clue. I've suffered from an itchy, dry burning on and off for 3 years now. Upon MY OWN research, I discovered that it could be 1 of 2 things or both. One being Cytolytic vaginosis which is a vaginal condition that involves an overgrowth of lactobacillus bacteria. Lactobacilli are a normal part of the vaginal environment. Basically, my vagina is too acidic. People frown on douching, but I found that a because baking soda alkalizes, a baking soda douche twice a week helps, or making a paste of baking soda and applying topically. Something is also soothing and moisturizing, because this itchy burning comes with dryness is to insert Evening Primrose Oil, as well as PRESEED (which can be found in any drug store, google it's benefits). The second factor, is an increase or decrease in Estrogen that may be causing discomfort. So I also take the supplement MACA (google its benefits too). Basically, it balances hormones, and it doesn't take a long time to notice the effects. It's almost instant. Vitamin E also soothes. Coconut oil is good too, but since it does have an anti bacterial effect, it's best not to use it often. Also, as for the baking soda, since it alkalizes, it's best not to overuse it, because it can backfire and start to burn. I hope this has helped someone, because a painful vagina can effect your entire mood and is the most frustrating thing I've ever experienced.

Yogurt works great. Apply directly for instant cool relief. Also eat lots of it throughout your period. Whole plain yogurt is what I use. None of that reduced fat flavored stuff. No irritation or dryness will occur after period ends. I also started drinking apple cider vinegar once daily. These things work well for me. Good luck!

Wow! I can't believe all of the women who are suffering from this! I have for almost twenty years. has anyone figure it out yet? I am seeing a Rhemetologist next week to check for Crohn's or Beckett disease! Lupus can also cause this to happen!

I find that chopping up a clove of garlic and swallowing it whole with some water will after a day or so start to cause more vaginal lubrication and sexual feelings. It is also antibacterial and antimicrobial an anti fungus so it's super healthy for you and okay to eat raw.
