Just wanted to chime in on the issue. Had an IUD 2010-2015, it was perfect. Got another one inserted the day my old one was removed and made it about a year symptom free. I experienced everything you are all saying: irritation, bv, yeast infection, hematuria, a sunburned, paper cut feeling in my outer parts that would about a week after sex. Never had this problem with other partners or with the first IUD. Today I had my IUD out. The doctor I saw for my pap in Feb said the itching is "just something that happens" and gave me a cream (estradiol). it didn't really help. Today during the painful and somewhat traumatic removal (my strings were up in my cervix, she said "are you 100% the iud is still in place?") she diagnosed both bv and a yeast infection. I think my body will be a lot happier without it.
Wooooow!!! Thank you all for sharing this! I’ve had insane itching the last few months and it’s not getting any better. I thought it was the IUD and now after reading all of this I think this must be what it is! Thank you ladies again for being amazing and sharing in our experience ♥️
I had the same issue. I had my Mirena inserted in 2014. at the beginning it was just my periods lasted 7-9 days and sour breast. in 2016 I started gain weight. It seemed that my body got out control. I had very bad emotional conditions, depression but the worst side effect was vaginal itching, burning and discharge. sex was a nightmare; very painful and terrible itching afterwards. Went to my GP and she diagnosed me with candidiasis. She proscribed me some medication. it helped till I had sex again. to make the long story short I had relapse every 2 weeks. I took so many pills that I'm not able to count. I even was sent to the gynaecologist but the result was the same:same diagnosis and same pills. it took 2 years until I myself started to blame Mirena and without any discussions I just made an app to take it out. Girls, it was such a relief. Since then I feel amazing I started to lose weight, no discharge, nothing. No doctors could have found the reason just I.
Holy sh*t.. I have the same sh*t.. the burning and itching and nothing works. I have had sex once since we put it in and I cry after in pain. I’m calling the dr tomorrow. The nasty discharge and pain. I want it out now. I believe there is a law suite against them but I’m not 100% sure but something needs to be done.
I too have had a Mirena iud inserted and am experiencing the same constant burning itching and cuts with no real reason for this and it's not yeast
I have the mirena like 6 months now and constantly has a water discharge like if I urinate on myself , but no itch .
Hey everyone. I see that you guys all have this issue but it seems like you guys got it after you’ve had it in for a longer period of time. I got mine 3 days ago and I’m getting burning and itching and I didn’t feel like this before I got it. I’m going back to the doctor tomorrow. Is my body rejecting it?
really wish I'd researched it before having it placed. I was due for my next depo after being told for years i needed to get off the depo. Mine started within days, got better for a few days and started again immediately with sex. Was hoping to keep my periods light to absent like with the depo, and to have the birth control. Now i wish I'd have stuck with the depo
Omg I have had the mirena for about 7 months and last month this damn itch has started. I have since been to the doctor and no std. I swear this thing is an itchy problem. I even thought I had a yeast infection and was treating myself for that. The itch came about 1-2 weeks before I was to start my cycle.. I’m about to start on the 29th of this month and here’s this damn itch.. I’ve tried apple cider vinegar and monistat.. no help there. Honestly the only thing that soothes it is Vaseline..
I had my merena put in last year and also since then have experienced the worst kind of itch that causes my vergina to swell and weep. This can come about at any time really, especially if pubes are growing back because it irritates it. I'm starting to think it's my merena too because my doctor asked if it's only happened since then and I didn't actually think about it until now. I googled and found your question.
I have the same exact issue as you I don't have much burning it's just extremely itchy but tends to burn when I itch it too much all STD tests have been negative. I too am experiencing lots of hair loss but mostly my hair isn't growing back after so much falls out. I didn't think it was the STD till I started calculating when this stuff started happening was about 4mo after Mirena IUD was inserted. I have PCOS & for years only got a period 3-4 times a year until last year I had excessive bleeding where the Drs said this was my last/best option. I think I will take my risks & continue natural vitamin supplements I've found to see if that helps rather than a foreign object inside my body. Thanks to you all for this post!! Glad to know there are others out there and I'm not abnormal!
I also had Mirena inserted 6 months ago and have started having itching, and all the othe4 symptoms. I haven't had sex since insertion so O know it's not anything else. It itches so bad that I am raw from scratching. I use my daughter's Nystatin cream which releaves it temporarily. It to the point where I want it out. Glad I'm not the only one who is experiencing this.
Same issues here! I’ve had it for about 4-5 years now and actually have a well woman check Monday! Thank god it’s not constant and only happens once in a while. I have found that regular Aloe Vera gel seems to provide relief for the itching.
Ugh, I also have horrible itching down there since I got Mirena. Getting the mirena was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. It made my feet swell, thighs and boobs bigger, made me hungry all the time, I gained 30 pounds, bled everyday for 6 months straight, and the horrible itching! I got tested for multiple things and have tried yeast infection treatment, steroid cremes 2x/day for 2 weeks straight and off and on for months, benadryl, hydrocortisone, etc. It is so bad, I scratch it and it bleeds. I have even used ice to make it subside. No matter what I've tried, it always comes back when I am not actively putting something on it. I got my mirena taken out after having it placed for 2 years (which was over a year ago) & still no relief :(. The itching is so bad and intense, it feels like it is coming from inside your skin at a place you cannot reach to scratch. Has anybody found a solution yet?!?!?
That itching is a sign on a bacterial infection, fo sho. Take probiotics and use peroxide and water tampons, (look it up) and/or other BV treatments, but definitely take something interbalky as well.
