I had mine removed yesterday and I'm so swollen not itchy but just sensitive and swollen she did take time finding the string to remove could that be the reason? I have never seen all these symptoms of an iud til now I had mine for 18 months and just got it removed. Not sure how long it will be swollen or if it's something I should be worried about??

Wondering about follow-up? Did u remove the mirena a year ago? And how are your symptoms now? Did any resolve or have you gotten any new diagnosis etc...? I have had the iud for about 3 yrs and suffer from what appears to be recurring yeast-like infections for over a year now...so my doctor (tho with multiple tests, some are negative for yeast-so dx is primarily based on symptoms now) has treated me with antibiotics, and yeast treatment meds, and for longterm-an otc daily dose of rePHresh (vag cream recommended, but I opted for the pill) which is not covered by insurance so its about $35/month! I also have dry itchy flaky dandruff scalp, and dry scaley hands...which I treated with different shampoos and hands with an antifungal cream. My ph is clearly off balance, among other issues-most r similar to complaints i read about on here, but I wonder if any are truly associated with the Mirena. I dont want to have it removed unless necessary, and certainly dont want to keep if its the root of all my issues!! And are there any lawsuits associated with this device & its side effects? Thanks for any help anyone!

I have had the mirena for about 10 months and I have been experiencing the same thing my doctor also treated me for a yeast infection and itching but I also had a bladder infection. I asked him if it was do to the Mirena he said no, but I know my body I also was checked for STD's and the tests came back negative I have never had these issues before the Mirena. I tried to have it tooken out but I haven't even started my period.

i had mirena for about 5 months. about a month after i got it, i started developing sores and had horrible itching. my doctor diagnosed it as BV, but i have had BV twice before and it did not feel like that at all and the medicine did not help like it had in the past. soon after, i started getting random tiny cuts around the outside of my vagina, and i hadn't been having sex or anything. it was like nothing i have ever experienced. i had weird discharge and nothing felt normal. finally, earlier this week, i couldn't take it anymore and removed it myself (it was totally fine and painless, but probably should have had the doctor do it. she didn't seemed concerned when i called and told her though). i immediately felt so relieved that i started crying tears of joy. i hadn't found many testimonials about side-effects after getting it removed. it's been four days now and i feel like a whole new person. the itching is almost completely gone, the cuts are gone, and i'm not having any weird odor. i didn't realize how cloudy my mind had been, but now that it's out i feel so refreshed and focused. i understand birth control is a major necessity for some people, but to me it's just not worth having a hunk of plastic attack my body like that. pills are annoying, but completely worth it in my opinion after having had that experience. good luck!!

Wow!! I can't believe all you lovely ladies out there going through the same thing as me!! I've been dealing with this for so long with no answers except to try to control the itching, burning, dryness, INSANITY!!!! Serious insanity at times!! I've always felt like it had something to so with Mirena but the doctors always blew that off! Now I know for sure! I can't wait to get this bastard out of me and hopefully resume a normal life. Has anyone experienced acne since inserting Mirena? I feel like my skin issues are related because I've never had skin issues before and now...well you know the story.

Any health unit will take them out, usually for free or super cheap. Also a family medicine dr can take them out and it's a cheaper visit than GYN.

Omg you guys!!! I feel relieved mentally that's I'm not crazy. Mireya has given me problem after problem. Fyi I have only been with one person for the last 3 yrs. I got the mirena 2 yrs ago. First I got bv then I took antibiotics to get rid of it which resulted to a yeast infection. Went back to the doct and got meds for that. I thought everything was fine but now I'm itching for NO REASON! It's so random & drove me nuts thinking I had a std but all tests came back negative. I'm having my iud removed I can't deal with the unnecessary doct visits

I have had 3 IUD's a total of 9 years worth, back in Aug,2016 I started noticing burning when I washed in the shower and used soap, wiped after using the rest room and while having sex ! I went to my OBGYN and was diagnosed with B.V., she gave me pills and creams to use and that worked a little on the symptoms but they came back. I dealt with discomfort from Aug-Feb. I finally decided to remove my IUD even after my doctor said she doubted that the IUD was the issue........ IT WAS !!!!
I had it removed and the end of Feb. she gave me some antibiotics and all my burning is gone and sex is enjoyable again !!! I do believe that the string that was on the IUD was the issue. I think no matter what creams or antibiotics I used the bacteria was on the string and would not go away. I am still trying to decide if I will have another IUD put in or try another method of birth control. I have gotten spoiled with not having a cycle or having the weight gain or having to remember to take a pill. I will make those decisions later but I am going to give my body a rest for now. Did I mention the sex was great now !?? If you are having issues like mine, have it REMOVED !!!!!

Depressed... I got the Mirena 2.5 months the ago and the first 30 days were fine after that it's been constant vaginal burning and occasional itching/discharge. I've had one infection and been to the doctor three times for the burning and all culturals keep returning negative but the burning persist. I haven't started any new medication and no new sex partners since getting the Mirena. I'm having this removed as soon as possible. I'm walking around with a washcloth and soap in my purse now, have to purchased all kind of feminine products to feel fresh, and I don't want to be touched. In less then 90 days the Mirena has truly changed me a happy go lucky person to one who wants to be left alone bc I feel horrible from the constant burning and I'm irritable bc there never seems to be a "solution ". Not a happy girl.

I've had the Mirena inserted for about 6 months and I'm ready to have it removed based on what I read and all the side affects I've been having. I have been having non-stop bleeding/spotting, odor and I believe either a BV or yeast infection. I also recently having migraines and feel extremely tired. My sex drive has decreased a lot since being on the Mirena. I'm also have an itching, burning sensation that I can no longer tolerate. I have my appointment next week for the removal of the Mirena and hopefully, it will solve all the issues I have been having because so far, it has been a negative experience for me.
