Just wanted to thank you guys for all your feedback.
It's 6 weeks now and I think that I am 99% back to normal. Still sniffling a little and coughing intermittenly (not major).
Interestingly, I did not get the info about probiotics from here, but heard about people who were taking it for one reason or another so many times that I decided to get some for myself. Expensive, yes...but I only take 1 TBL/day. I've been doing this for a week. Amazingly, I think that it has affected me positively. I might take this stuff for the rest of my life. Everything feels better.
It comes in a bottle and is called "Probiotic" Inner-Eco and costs $15. But it lasts a month because you take a very small dose.
Thanks everyone for encouraging me that this "thing" would go away. I thought I'd have the flu forever and wasn't sure I wanted to live like this !!!

I have lost 2.5 stone and my appetite is gone docs are not much help saying its post viral fatigue but my eyes are still do itchy and have a film over there I know there is still infection there and reckon that's what is dragging my body down! I'm now trying second day on anti viral drug asicilvor just hoping this will work and maybe it is herpes in my eye as I have never ever had a cold sore In my life and considering I tested positive I'm trying to treat the cause! I have even had a course of anti biotics done

I am now on Prozac to try to keep my upbeat and the docs say it will pass all consultants have said its a virus that can last a while and that I am healthy! Really! I feel anything but I have a young son and am struggling!!!!! I still remain active even though I crash theoughout the day I really want to exercise but dread it in case it worsens my condition can anyone help I've tried all sorts co enzymes all vits pro biotics inc the yoghurts morning and night like that lady suggested I longgggggg to feel normal! I do sleep though when I go to bed so that's why I'm hopeful I don't have -me- do u think steroids would help!?

Lasts a long time, viral, many symptoms, vague but debilitating at times, just as many on this post describe.
No "cure" for viruses, but several tablespoons of pure coconut oil(contains lauric acid) for 4 days acts as an antiviral.
I had a stomach virus that went on too long for me. I was vomiting stomach acids, which irritated my throat pretty bad, couldn't eat, couldn't even lay down in bed because it would trigger that vomiting sensation... The feeling would go on for about a week, then Id feel better for 2 days, then it would hit me pretty hard again for another week or so. Anyway, went to the doctor, who basically told me it was viral, and to wait it out until my body recuperated on its own, and that there really was not medication for it. He prescribed some antacids and suppositories for the nausea (which DID NOTHING FOR ME...lol). I couldn't miss anymore days of school (about 5 weeks), so I took some action. I read about ginger root, and ran to the store. Peeled a large chunk, boiled it in hot water for under 10 mins, and drank it throughout the day for a couple days (I still wasn't eating at this point, only a ritz cracker here and there). Im not really the type to do things like this but I was pretty desperate and had to get back to class. Unbelievably, I started to get ALOT of mucus and coughing up really nasty stuff, then got a really bad case of sinusitis and a little bit of pink eye. I read that these are all signs that your body is getting over a viral infection, which lasted about another week. Ill never underestimate the power of ginger. I'm not saying that its going to fix your problem, but it cant hurt to try either. By the way, that ginger water was pretty spicy... :)

Reading this has upset me.
I live in SF. I rarely get sick. A month ago I began having typical feelings of the flu as I remember them. It started with a sore throat. It hurt to swallow. Then, it seemed to travel downward to my chest with congestion and a cough with lots of phlegam. Soon after I had a mild case of diarhea. I really thought that I was at the tail end of it when it just started all over again.
Right now, it hurts to swallow again. I'm constantly blowing my nose. And the most frustrating part is feeling so fatigued and tired that I'm not able to do much (that I need to do) and I spend a lot of time sleeping. Sometimes I think it might be getting better. At other times, it is as bad as the day it started.
I have never had a fever with this, but all in all it has been bad enough. My Dr. just said it would have to run its course after speaking with him over the phone - but now - it is affecting my life so much (what life?) that I felt that maybe I ought to be seen. What if it's walking pneumonia? What if it's strep throat? Yet I get the feeling it's viral and not antibacterial. Why does my throat hurt so much on both sides.
I got this flu right after I had a problem with a gum that swelled up and was infected. That's OK now (for now) and I wonder if it could be related.
I have never felt like this for so long and I don't know what to do. If someone told me I had to live like this forever, I don't think I'd want to !!!!
What can I do? Please help.
can i ask has your taste and smell went also sound s so like i have and i have had 6 weeks now been to docs 3 times its a virus they keep saying and will need to work the course
My taste and smell is OK. My sore throat is getting better, but at times it flares up again. I've found that taking children's 1 tablet dissolvable Allegra a day helps. It could be that an allergy could be prolonging your recovery. Also using Arm and Hammer Saline Nasal spray will help. I've found that if you just let it pour into your nostril and tilt your head back you can actually notice the thick mucous being removed from your larynx. This thick mucous if not removed can cause severe throat pain. Be sure and spit it out, or your stomach will pay for it later.
I got sick almost two weeks ago -- started with a sore throat and has included conjunctivitis, coughing up mucus, extreme fatigue, dizziness, fever (but only in the beginning), occasional head ache, muscle aches, muscle weakness and slight stomach issues. Just when I think it's getting better, I feel worse, and utterly exhausted.
I tested negative for pneumonia, strep throat and lyme disease, and all of my blood work looks okay. My doctors just tell me that it's a virus, but I've never been sick for this long. I hate it.
