I am so glad I have found this site as well. I am a nervous and anxious person over all the horrific stories i've read. I am 44 and have to have a total laparoscopic abdominal hysterectomy of everything but my ovaries. I am concerned about the cervix being removed and not having a good sex life or desire afterwards. I am somewhat overweight, but not excessive and having anxiety about gaining weight after the surgery. I have huge fibroids, horrible bleeding, urinary issues due to the fibroids location, and just feel like c**p so i know the surgery is necessary. I just want the best information moving forward on how to prep myself and home prior to surgery and post op. UGGHGHHGHHH

Good evening ladies. I'm 51 years old and I'm going on my second week post op. I feel wonderful. I had a abdominal hysterectomy. I have had a few hot flashes, but was expected. This was my last result, but I kept having systs on my right ovary. I haven't gained any weight, no headaches. I just feel wonderful. Good luck to all

Hi, I see you were scheduled to do the DiVinci on September 11. I was wondering how it went. How was you initial state of recovery and how are feeling and doing now? Hope we'll. I am 53 and considering having a hysterectomy after reading horrific stories of the alternative, a myomectomy, which was my first thought. I have a significantly large uterus, and 2 fibroids measuring 3.5 cm, total, and not menapuasing. I've suffered with mentruals problems most of my life, but they got worse after I got off the pill, 7 years ago, due to a DVT on my left leg. I've experienced heavy, heavy bleeding and large clots, changing every 15 minutes the first 2 days, in bed for the 2 days with immense pain, bleeding for 8-10 days and then spotting for another 5 days. I hope you can shed some light, I'm pretty scared. But know that this is most probable my best option for me. I just want my life back without opening a can of unruly worms, ie: weigh gain.

I had a myomectomy in 2001 after I was found to have a load of fibroids following a miscarriage. I’d suffered dreadfully for years every month in complete agony and had never been referred to a Gynaecologist. So they removed 7 fibroids (1 grapefruit, 3 plums, 3 grapes in size) and I then went on to have 2 children, both of who were delivered by C section. I have been suffering constant back pain and need to urinate constantly but thought nothing of it but was seeing my GP for another reason when it came up in conversation. She then examined me and arranged an ultrasound scan, where they discovered my uterus is the size of a 6 month pregnancy. I have multiple fibroids, two of which are very large, one is pressing on my bowel and the other on my bladder. So I then waited 2 months to see a gynaecologist and I’m now on the waiting list for a abdominal hysterectomy (3-6 month wait). I’ve been told given my medical history that I’m to take at least 3 months off work to recover. I’m 49 and not menopausal so they intend leaving the ovaries, if they can. I just want it gone!

You are right. There are so many horror stories and less positive information. Drinking water and balancing rest with light exercise after my hysterectomy helped so much. Sleeping on my back helped with under eye puffiness ! Get compliments on my glowing skin with all that water and rest! No hot flashes. Down 8 lbs. Attitude makes a huge difference! Staying positive and thankful for the excellent care that some women do not have access to.

Hi there! I'm 54  and I'm due for an abdominal Hysterectomy in 2 months. This will be the first major operation for me. I have no kids, never been married but dated years ago.... and it's the last to be sexual active or have  no desire to. Maybe because I menopause  in my early 40's... idk,  but its different for any woman.  To make the story short..... I'm curious if I will lose or gain after my procedure. My normal weight is 110 to 115 1bs but since the last 2 to 3 months before  my surgery date, I'm  now 130 1bs  but thats with clothing on including shoes. I feel like I'll be gaining lbs for no reason before the surgery.  I eat right.... very much watch what I eat too, and walk as far as 3 to 4 miles. My question is..... will I lose or gain weight after my Hysterectomy.  Mind you its a full blown one .... removing everything. Please, share your experience and symptoms during Post Op.  Looking forward to hear your story (s).

Hello Ladies!

I am having my hysterectomy in a month! I am 33 y/o and extremely nervous. I'm wondering if i am making the right decision. I will be having everything but my ovaries removed. The procedure will be done laprascopically.

1. Huge concern- weight gain! I do not want to gain weight due to this surgery. Alot of what you read on the internet is that people to gain 25lbs in the first year.

I need to have this surgery done. I have been having abnormal paps for a while now, and my periods are awful. Terrible flow and severe pain. Not to mention they last 8 plus days and come every 22-25 days.

Can anyone give me more information on their weight experience with hysterectomy. Thanks!

Hey Lauren!
I too have to have a hysterectomy due to cervical issues. I have also had the scraping and other procedures. I don't think I'm myself any less of a women. I have two children and am definitely done having babies, but there is something sobering about knowing I'll never carry a baby again. My biggest fear is weight gain. I struggle with body image the way it is and am so afraid to gain anything!

Hello everyone, just had the davinchi laparscopic total hysterectomy tuesday. So far so good. So far i haven't had to take any pain meds since i been home also i was able to walk up and down stairs slowly. I lost about 8 pounds before the surgery so im hoping i will drop all the fluids off my body because i did swell in my thighs. It seems like i lost a little muscle in my arms. Good luck everyone

I go in tomorrow for mine! Leaving my ovaries but taking uterus, cervix and tubes. I hope I lose 10-15lbs that I have gained in the last 6 months too! I’m 38 and have been noticing more younger women having to get this done because of fibroids. Mine are so bad, I bleed so much. I will be thankful when it’s all over.

I'm 29 I have to get a hysterectomy.... I'm so scared all I can do is cry. I'm trying to find information online on what to expect. All I'm finding is all the horrible things. It's not the fact I won't be able to have kids. Because I have to beautiful kids. I'm scared of the mood swings and everything else that cones with it!
