It's very helpful to read the other posts here. I had my gall bladder removed in July 2008 and since then have had 4 severe attacks of vomiting resulting in drastic weight loss. I was 58 kilos after the op and I'm now 45. The vomiting lasts 3-4 days usually following a bout of constipation for 1-2 days, my temperature is raised and my body hurts. I am vegan and have alway eaten healthily so did not need to lose the weight. The first timeI told my doctor about the vomit atack she said it was a virus, however, I doubt this. I think it is as a result of the operation. I've adjusted my fat intake accordingly. I'm so worried to get another attack as it is so debilitating and I run a business. It takes me a full week to recover then another 2 weeks to get my strength back. Do you think this will stop in time as my body adjusts to not having a gall bladder. I must admit that prior to the attacks I've had a maybe a glass of wijn a day for a few a days, alcohol does make me eat more so I'm going to try and not have any atall for a few months to see if that helps. Any advice will be welcome.

I had my Gall Bladder removed in July 2008 I have always eaten a healthy well balanced diet and go to the gym regularly. Since the surgery I have gained thirty pounds I had a very muscular athletic build prior to surgery and although I haven't changed my routine i find myself continually gaining weight I have gone from a size 4 to a size 8 in a matter of months. personally i would rather have the pain of gall stones then the inability to maintain a healthy body . if you are offered an alternative to complete removal I would take it. This was my biggest fear with the surgery and I allowed my surgeon to convince me that there was no other option although I requested it... There are other options!

At first i had a gall bladder attack that could not be identified. I went for months with stomach aches and an ultrasound that revealed no stones although my gallbladder was a bit "thick". No need to be worried, shouldn't be a problem with your gallbladder, i was told. 8 months later i was taken by ambulance for severe pain in my upper stomach, chest area. An ultrasound still revealing "no stones". Although my blood work was telling a story of problems with my gall bladder, and pancreas. After 2 days in the hospital they were finally able to due surgery. I hadn't ate for 2 days so my pancreatic levels were low enough to be able to go ahead with the plan to take out my gallbladder. After a 2 1/2 hour surgery i was told that i had so many stones that my gallbladder was falling apart, reconstruction of my bile duct and removal of stones from my pancreas. I was in the hospital for 7 days. Returning to the surgery for blood work every week for 5 weeks until my emalyse levels were back to normal. Please don't wait. Get it taken care while it is not an emergency. My sister was also told she had no stones. She scheduled surgery anyway.

I had mine removed last week, and for over two years didn't recognize the symptoms. I had gained 60+ pounds and kept eating less and couldn't take it off. I have lot 22 pounds just in 3 weeks, but I was very sick, and now I am still tender but the pain was a lot worse!!

i had my gallbladder out a month ago and have lost almost 20 lbs and i'm not even trying. but have had problems with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. if i eat anything fatty at all, the problems intensify. i am happy for the weight loss and the vomiting only occurs every couple of days now as well as the diarrhea. i think it will eventually stop all together but i have reduce my fat intake and hope the weight loss continues

Hi,
I had my gall bladder out (key hole) in Dec 2008 then suffered from quite bad diarrhorea. As a result I found loads of blogs where people complained of weigh gain even though they controlled their diet. This left me very depressed especially when I realised that I was putting on weight while I was recovering. It is now mid April and I have been back in the gym running again and I have been able to control my weight as easily as before I had my gall bladder removed. The purpose of my email was to counter all the negative blogs and comments out there that depressed me so. If you are reading this and have weight gain concerns then don't. You have the control!! Dont worry!!! I believe people who previously could not eat fatty foods because they had a constant reminder (pain) now over indulge. Remember weight gain is a gradual increase through daily excessive calories not because you no longer have a gall bladder. Remember the basics. Food / drink (apart from water) = calories. Too many calories consumed results in weight gain so exercise more and eat better. Good luck and dont worry.

I just want to say thank you so much for your encouraging post. I had my gallbladder removed in Jan. and have begun to gain weight and was becoming very depressed. Having weight issues all of my life, the recent weight gain has made me feel ugly and disgusting. Thank you for reminding me that I do have control. There is no getting around eating right and exercising, so I may as well embrace it and learn to love it. Thank you again!! :-D

I'm 28y/o and it's only been 2 months since my laproscopic surgery, but I have found that I have lost weight. Actually, I have lost nearly 4 inches in my waist. I'm not sure how much I've lost, pound-wise, as I still have the "fat girl" mentality. I wasn't a small girl before, but I wasn't large either. I was overweight, but proportionate. After I had my post-surgery check-up, and the surgeon said that I could return to my normal lifestyle, I did. I have only mildly cut back on the fatty foods (I can't afford to eat out like I did before). It has caused some digestive issues -- diarrhea, nausea, etc -- but I honestly haven't changed my diet much at all. I'm kind of hoping this is something that continues (though, of course I don't want to be unhealthily skinny) but I wanted to help negate some of the scary things that have been posted about weight gain post-surgery.
The nausea and diarrhea have become a problem, but I plan to take measures to correct it and get tested for food allergies. My understanding is that the gluten and yeast found in many foods can upset the stomach and digestive tract as well as sweet foods. Some of my favorite foods contain these items, so I guess that will cause some issues while I adjust. :)
Good luck everyone!

I had maintained a nice healthy weight for all of my 50 years. Stayed a easy size 7 until I had my gallbladder removed about 2 years ago. Since then I have struggled with my weight so much. I have gained 20 lbs. that I can't seem to get off - even being on Weight Watchers and sticking to only the 18 points alloted for my size, age, etc. I am wondering if anyone else has had a large weight gain post-gallbladder surgery.

Im suppose to have my gallbladder out come friday. Im really unsure about this and worried about gaining alot of weight after since that is all I hear.A few have said ther is other alteratives/What are they? I have no stones or is it diseased, but the injection factor is 12% and told it should be closer to 40? I throw up my food on many occasions, and Im sick alot. I have some pain at once in a while. I have exsperinced a few serious attacks in the past and it wasnt fun. I have gained some weight already even though my diet hasnt changed , and feel Im into health and fitness. I would just feel so very un happy if it continued after surgery with more weight gain? Ive never really been over weight but I am now by 15lbs? Im also wondering about all this running to the bathroom thing too? How unhealthy is that. Im sure it isnt good at all, so is this really the answer? Getting surgery. I have heard so many pros and cons I just dont know any feed back would be great.

I don't know if I'm replying to your question seperateley,or if I'm typing where you left off,but anyways,I wanted to let you know that I had tremendous weight loss after my gallbladder surgery.I've always battled my weight since puberty,& at the time of my surgery I weighed 185 pounds.Within the first 6 days post surgery,I had alrready lost 13 pounds! Then as time went on, the weight gradually started coming off. Before the surgery however,I never had a problem with gallstones or anything like that,&when I come out of recovery, they told me that,I didn't have ANY gallstones or sand (which is sometimes found in the gallbladder),but that I had adhesions all over my gallbladder and that it looked diseased.(Whatever that means)lol.Like I said though, before then,I NEVER had any problems with my stomach. The day before I went to the ER complaing of severe stomach pains,I had vomited,& had stomach pains,by the next morning the pain was so bad I was doubled over,to me all of this simply came out of no where. But from December 2005 to December 2007,I went from 185 pounds to 130 pounds,& that's without changing my diet or doing any kind of exercising. It just slowly fell off in it's own time. That's MY story,& what happened to me post surgery. I hope it helps!Code:
