I have been having this strange feeling as well, the butterfly, twitch, spasim what ever that feeling is under my left ribs. I have had a ultra sound done just days prior to the sensation comming on for a routine check up and everything was fine. I had blood work done also and all was well, I also had a colonoscopy and the other end too, again all was fine.
My Doc says that the feeling is do to the high level of Anxiety that I have, but I have been close to Anxiety free for a week or so now and the flutter is still there. I went and got a 2nd opinion and he looked at my chart and said that it started about the same time I started Buspar(for anxiety) and Kapidex(for acid reflux), so he is having me stop the Kapidex for a week to see if anything changes, I guess he thinks that because it is such a weird symptom that it could be a side effect from meds.
I feel what you are all feeling and am very supprised that for as long as this post is going no one has came back and shared the wealth of how the Dr. visits went or a diagnoses.
On one hand I am glad to see that there are others like me so its just not one more thing ill feel weird about and alone, but on the otherhand I feel bad that you guys have this c**p too.
So if any one has info or a diag please feel free to share...

? I am 29 and female. I have had this baby kicking feeling too, in my right side between my belly button and ribcage. Its so weird. I know Im not pregnant as I have had a tubal, plus its to high. Im glad to see that alot other are having the same problem and Im not crazy. Any answers yet?
I have been feeling this fluttering in my upper left side usually when im lying down trying to get to sleep - sometimes i wake up with it! It feels like bubbles, or a baby kicking as someone described. Its not painful but its quite concerning.
Im 22 yr old female 8 and half stone and in good health minus the occasional bullimic spell.
So are we any the wiser what this is? I cant think of any other symptoms I have to go along with this - tiredness, sore eyes.
Thats about it really.

Hello again all, I had went back to the doctor this last friday and said that I couldnt take it any more. He took me off buspar this time and for the saftey of others put me on xanax(which I highly recomend for those anxiety people out there) by the end of the day of not taaking buspar the fluttering had subsided about 95%, I also talked to my pharmasist and he says that allergic reactions can cause this feeling that we all desribe, so I dont know if you all are on any meds but this seems to be the case for me. My doctor said that there could also be a spinal viral infection like shingles but different that could cause this weird sensation, I will stay on this site and tell what I have found and noticed and any changes.
It would help if we all put what meds, other symptoms and habbits are andd mybe we can narrow this down our selves
Scotty

female, overweight, 48, definitely not pregnant but I've been feeling this same fluttery feeling all day. I wish someone would come back who's been to the doctor about it. I do have problems with anxiety sometimes but I am not feeling anxious or stressed when this happens. I have in the distant past been told I have an enlarged spleen so might be something there. Linda %-)
I should add that I have recently started taking Novo-Hydrazide for high blood pressure and have been on warfarin and fluoxetine for years.

I'm a 40 year-old female, having the same symptoms; fluttering or spasm-like sensation in my upper abdomen for the past couple of months. Something seems "alive" in there, and no... I'm not pregnant. My symptom is directly in the center under my breastbone. After an urgent care visit on Sat. and a follow-up my doctor today, we think it's my esophagus that's the culprit. My initial concern was an abdominal aortal anurism, but there is no sign of that. I'm taking some prylosec-type perscription over the next few weeks to see if it stops. It is a relief to know that an alien isn't going to pop out of my gut any time soon!
I'll let you know how it goes.

I am SO glad to know I am not the only one! I am 26 and the mom of 4, and it really does feel like a baby about 5-6 months along! I feel it in the lower part of my abdomen mostly. Sometimes I have even it seen it move! I am not preggo, I even had my tubes tied 2 years ago. I occasionally take tests anyway just to make sure. Does anyone have any new info?
Hey All.
I have experienced the same fluttering thing but its normal...probably a muscle spasm.

Ok so this sensation just started for me this morning. The worst thing for me is that I recently went about 4 months with no period (due to extreme exercise) and have had 2 since but I still get paranoid! This started and it is as high up as right under my sternum and gets a little lower sometimes. It is a crazy fluttering feeling and it is driving me crazy! No other symptoms though- Oh and I am only like 105 pounds - 21 years old. I just don't understand it!!
For me, this started when I got shingles, 2 years ago. It's not a fluttering, more like the feeling that something is IN there, just under my left bottom ribs.
It is not often, but more often lately. I assume it's due to stress.

I am a 62 year old male who is happily retired. I am stress free. I too am experiencing a fluttering or twitching sensation under the left breastbone. This sensation occurs fairly frequently. I iwent to my cardiologist and said that the sensation wa not heart related. I do suffer from occasional acid reflex and I take 40 mg nexium daily. I have not gone to my internist about the problem. I think it might be from the nexium because the sensation started shortly after I switched from prevacid to nexium. Does anyone have any ideas?
eristalsis is a radially symmetrical contraction of muscles which propagates in a wave down the muscular tube. In humans, peristalsis is found in the contraction of smooth muscles to propel contents through the digestive tract. Earthworms use a similar mechanism to drive their locomotion. The word is derived from New Latin and comes from the Greek peristaltikos, peristaltic, from peristellein, "to wrap around," and stellein, "to place".
In much of the gastrointestinal tract, smooth muscles contract in sequence to produce a peristaltic wave which forces a ball of food (called a bolus while in the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract and chyme in the stomach) along the gastrointestinal tract. Peristaltic movement is initiated by circular smooth muscles contracting behind the chewed material to prevent it from moving back into the mouth, followed by a contraction of longitudinal smooth muscles which pushes the digested food forward. Catastalsis is a related intestinal muscle process.

Thank goodness for this thread. I have been going crazy for about a week with these symptoms. Just popped up out of the blue for no reason!
I feel like bubbles are being blown inside my right side ride under ribs...don't know if this is the kidney, gall bladder, or liver area? It seriously feels like I am pregnant (impossible), and I have worried that it is a tumor that has developed and started moving; or a living creature has reached full maturity! o.O
I thought maybe it was because I wasn't drinking enough water and some spasms developed from dehydration? So I've upped my water intake and I'm making sure to include a multi-vitamin in case I am deficient in something dietary.
I read through every page of this thread but haven't seen many updates or results.
Is there anything new to report? Did it go away for any of you?
I'm a 40 something female with a lot of financial stresses, and I homeschool my kids which has been a big transition. This started not long after our school program began.
Thanks for any advice or guidance!

It could be onset on acute pancreatis. Inflammation of Pancreas. Could be serious. Check with a gateroentrologist. They may review your amylase and lipase enzymes and order a CAT Scan to make a diagnosis.
