Maybe someone can suggest some kind of solution to me. I am a very healthy eater I do not eat junk, I do not eat in resturants because of the salt content and fat in the foods. I cook my own food because I know what I am eating and what ingredients I put in my food. I excerise 4-5 times a week running 3 miles and walking two miles; one would think that I should be like twiggy but I am not. My blood pressure runs between 103/57 to 98/54, I don't have high cholestrol or diabetes and I am 53yrs old. I have not had a cold in over 30yrs and I am not on any type of medications yet I do not lose weight not that I truly care to be honest but it is just puzzling to me why I never lose weight. I was told by several people that I do not eat enough calories. While I believe that theory I just think it is ludicrious.....any suggestions.
Hi Sonia: When we have a "normal" body weight and no health issues, your body is thinking "This is JUST what I need to survive" So when you try to intake less calories or exercise more, and your body feels like there is no need to loose weight, it will just burn slower and keep what it can via storing! Also due to the fact that you will be in perimenopause or menopause, this will also keep your weight stable! As you have such a healthy lifestyle - if you didn't you would definitely put on weight due to your age and menopause! Also if you are taking in the same amount of calories as your are burning off, then this will also be a reason why you aren't loosing weight! What I really want you to realize is this! Due to the fact that your body is going through the "change" your lifestyle IS in fact making your body loose weight by keeping it stable and level! Talk to any other woman your age who is NOT as healthy as yourself and I'm sure she will say that she has put on X amount of lbs in the last couple of years! I was just out for coffee today with a girlfreind of mine - who is 56 - she told me that she has recently put on 20lbs!! and she doesn't have a clue why! And we started talking about the good old M word! And she is VERY upset about it! Plus she is eating virtually nothing and exercising like a feind to try and loose this before her sons wedding! But she is having a hard time, she too is/was VERY healthy - exercising at the gym, walking daily, eating fresh products etc. So you are not alone OK? I know it's all about self image, so if you are REALLY in need to loose some weight, once again it comes down to taking in less than what you are working off!
Give yourself a pat on the back that you ARE so healthy and taking such fantastic care of your body! You are honoring her by doing the right things for her! And she is rewarding you by holding up her end of the bargain! In this day and age of drive throughs and microwaves, we forget to thank our bodies for still taking in breathes, for our heart beating 24/7, for us being able to walk and talk and love! We put all this "c**p" into our bodies, and yet wonder why we get ill or don't feel "right"! So congratulations to you honey!

I agree with Bambi. You're healthy. Healthy does not always equal skinny. Skinny people frequently do not exercise and eat poorly and live shorter lives. It has nothing to do with your weight. YOu sound incredibly healthy actually! Are you unhappy with your body?
Thanks guys - No, no I am not unhappy with my body at all. I just thought it was strange that I do all the right things but I am still a couple of pounds over weight. My main objective is that I am healthy and that has always been my goal and that is what I work towards. I look great in my cloths and I really do not have any complaints to be honest. I thank god every morning I wake up and can roll out of bed without any aches or pain....I am a really happy with myself. I actually wear a size 16 and I am 5'5'....
That is the average size for women in the US!!! So as long as your are pleased with your image, and you are SO healthy! CONGRATULATIONS hon! You will be more prepared - than most - to get over the "change" quicker and healthier!! I WISH I was as healthy as yourself!! Good luck and health!!!
I have the same problem, and often wonder the same thing. I am allergic to everything made with flour, dairy, and eggs, as well as various fruits and vegetables. And my meals are boring, plain, and bland. It's a daily struggle, and nothing I eat will make me lose. You are lucky to be very healthy. My blood pressure is normal, but my pulse is high, my cholestrol is perfect and so is my sugar, other than that, the weight loss is the hardest thing.
Hi Sunshine! I have mentioned this in many of my other posts, more and more people - ESPECIALLY women - are becoming allergic to certain foods! What I would suggest for yourself is to see a dietician and find out what sort of things you can eat and get recipes for that! When we are giving our bodies things it DOES NOT like! It will retaliate by making us feel YUCKY!!! My oldest friend felt terrible for years! Then all of a sudden she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease - Wheat and Gluten Allergy - And more and more people have that problem! I believe - personal opinion of course - that it is ALL the hormones, and pesitcides, and waxes etc, that is put on our food to "LOOK" fresh from other countries! I always remember picking up a Beautiful Green Apple It FLEW out of my hands, it was covered in a greasy film to make it look shiny and darker green!!!!! It was GROSS!! I always buy free range eggs, their yolks are night and day to mass produced eggs! Scientists say there is no difference in minerals etc, BUT I don't believe it! So ask your doctor about setting up an appointment for you with a dietician or a nutritionist and see what they can come up with for you to eat and like! Good luck and health!
its because you probably dont really NEED to lose weight. you have an average body weight.
Well let me tell you about body types. IT turns out that bodies are set at a certain weight, and it's very hard to change your size if you'er set at a certain weight. YOu may be what's known as an endomorph, which means you're prone to a bit of a large size, whereas other people are ectomorphs who are prone to being skinny. It is REALLY hard to change your body type and you have to seriously cut the calories to actually lose those last few weights. There's a ton of studies that have been done if you're interested...but I'd have to go dig them up. What do you think?
Metabolism varies in different people. Most people who aren't losing weight are often eating more calories than they realise, however the body also seems to have a weight beyond which it is tricky to lose. Being healthy is the most important thing.
